As promised I spoke with Fiona, who owns and runs Serendipi-tea, little tearoom here in the village. She would be delighted to have us visit, and can cater for quite a few, perhaps up to 12 or perhaps more. The dates where she’s rather busy are Nov 8, Nov 16 and 17, Dec 1 and Dec 18, so those dates would need to be avoided.
From mid-Nov she can arrange a Christmassy afternoon tea if we so wished.
The afternoon teas cost £9.50 each and she can cater for gluten-free if required.
There is a train into the village on the Fife Circle line from Edinburgh and it’s about a 10 minute walk from the station (Glenrothes with Thornton) to Serendipi-tea, which is situated on Main St, opposite the church.
We’d need to book a date quite soon, just so she can mark us onto her calendar.

Marelli, I would have loved to have come, but it would involve three trains and a very long day. I hope you get lots of takers. Good luck.

Elegran Mon 15-Oct-18 15:45:25

Add my name to your list, Marelli. Almost any date is OK for me (except Wed 12th Dec)

November 8th is when we are supposed to be meeting in Edinburgh (probably the Gallery restaurant) so that would be out anyway.

Do we want it to be weekend or a weekday?

I can manage most days from 14-30 November Marelli. There’s a direct Edinburgh train that gets in at 12 so would only be one change at Kirkcaldy for me. Bit too early for afternoon tea though. Could you put me in as a maybe and I can see what the transport situation is like once a date is fixed? Could always do lunch with FIL first.

Hi I would like to join you for afternoon tea if that’s ok? I can manage any time at the moment apart from of course our Xmas lunch in Edinburgh. Just let me know date. Thanks.

Marelli Mon 15-Oct-18 17:09:06

Marydoll, it’s a long way to come for a couple of hours and on so many trains - exhausting, too. We will surely catch up soon, though.
I think we’d need to make the tea quite early as she does close about 4pm. Would that be ok with everyone?
So that we’re not going to be meeting too close to our Xmas lunch in Edinburgh, what about making it Tues 20th Nov or Wed 21st Nov?
There are a few still to see the thread, so we’ll see what everyone’s saying before we decide for sure? Tearoom isn’t open on a Sunday.
So far we have on the list:
Elegran
Ina
Lurkio (possibly )
Brunette10
Katek

Hi, can you add me please, either the 20th or 21st November is fine at the moment.

Currently away at mums, and going off for a few days with sister so may not be online from Wednesday for a week, if I do not respond to any more posts.

Marelli Tue 16-Oct-18 05:20:53

What about making it Wed 21st November, then? I know it's a bit early for afternoon tea at around 2-2.30pm, but as she closes at 4, we'd need to arrange it for about then. I can check with her whether she would stay open that wee bit longer if we want to have it a bit later?
So far we have:
Elegran

Yes that's fine with me - thank you! - looking forward to it.

Katek Tue 16-Oct-18 08:28:09

That’s fine for me-I’ll get earlier train and visit FIL first. Will be in need of restorative cuppa for my throat after having to shout at him!!

Elegran Tue 16-Oct-18 09:34:37

Fine with me too.

Elizabeth1 Tue 16-Oct-18 11:13:03

Sorry I’ll not make it this time. I’ll still be sunning it up in Tenerife. Hope you all have a lovely time and I’ll see you at the Christmas lunch.

Marelli Tue 16-Oct-18 16:00:16

Sorry you'll not make it this time, Elizabeth 1, but we'll raise a wee cuppie to you on the day!
I'll bump the post for one more day to see if anyone else wants to come, then book us in. Has anyone got any dietary requirements, such as gluten-free?

Marelli Tue 16-Oct-18 19:17:03

Marelli Wed 17-Oct-18 11:01:30

No special dietary requirements?
Do we want a Christmassy -type themed tea, or ordinary?

Brunette10 Wed 17-Oct-18 11:38:46

I don't take butter on my sandwiches if there's any.

Marelli Wed 17-Oct-18 13:56:26

Noted, Brunette10.
Ina needs gluten-free - anyone else?
Christmassy or ordinary?

Brunette10 Wed 17-Oct-18 17:29:50

Thank you. When I said I don't take butter I suppose I really mean no spread whatsoever on sandwiches, does this make sense? Just like fillings!

Marelli Wed 17-Oct-18 20:57:30

Brunette10 - all the more room for tasty fillings ?!

Brunette10 Thu 18-Oct-18 10:46:46

Absolutely!

Marelli Thu 18-Oct-18 12:24:58
