Joan, I wish I shared your optimism. There is a lot of hate being poured out on Obama. Never overestimate the intelligence of the electorate - and I don't just mean the American electorate. And don't underestimate the influence of certain parts of the media. The 1963 election here (^It's the Sun wot won it!^) was a deeply disillusioning experience for many of us. I had managed to fall asleep last night with the radio on and was woken up by Ann Romney's panegyric to Mitt. Eugh!

I know the Americans specialise in odd names but does 'Mitt' really go with the title 'President'?

His full name is Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947). I'm not sure Willie would have been better!! More fun though. Apparently the Mitt is after a family friend called Milton but known as Mitt.

I guess The former VP candidate Palin had some peculiar names in her family too. Why would you call someone Trig for instance? Or Track, Tripp or Bristol? I'm not keen on Todd (husband) either, as in Yorkshire 'tod' means sheep or rabbit poo. Not to mention what Bristol means in certain quarters.

At least the rednecks won't confuse him with Osama Bin Laden.
