greenmossgiel and littlenellie I am glad I opened up the subject of the grief of losing a child or grandchild.

I nearly didn't; its a topic that often makes people uncomfortable, and some so-called friends think its catching, so vanish off the scene. Talking about it still makes me cry. But I have had more support, kind wishes and understanding in the last 24 hours, than in the three years since it happened.

Thanks GN's smile.

Nanadogsbody I think it is much easier to express sympathy and good wishes in the terrible circumstances of the death of a child or grandchild if one is a stranger or mere acquaintance. That doesn't mean that the emotions expressed aren't genuine and heartfelt. However, it's much harder when one is face to face with the bereaved person and many people are tentative about approaching such an emotional subject. This can make them seem callous and unsupportive when, in fact, they are just tongue tied and at a loss to know what to say.

Thanx nellie and everyone, you are a lovely lot. I feel like I've had a lot of virtual hugs this last 24 hours. Xxxx
