Labour didn't tell us where their cuts would be made - presumably not because they lacked the courage but because they had no idea.
Is it rude to not finish a book club choice that was selected by someone else?
Thought I would post this up for those of us who are hoping for the stamina to stay up!
Labour didn't tell us where their cuts would be made - presumably not because they lacked the courage but because they had no idea.
Nor had the other parties!
There are a lot of good Lib Dems gone along the way - Vince Cable, Danny Alexander, for instance. The Tories will get away with murder now - cuts everywhere. Remember they have not had the courage to tell us where the next round of swingeing cuts are to be made NHS? Education? Wait and see.
It's going to be interesting to see the choice of cabinet and shadow front bench.
A lot of change there.
Sounds as though Ed is close to resigning as well; I wish I knew how to getonto twitter..
Brilliant news about Farage!!
Jane10, as I see it, the SNP are hoping to work smarter, for the whole UK, by having a large number of MPs at Westminster.
If they do not achieve much to benefit the whole UK, and it is through their own fault, a lot of their support will vanish.
If they are unable to achieve much, because of the way parliament is set up and/or because of the aggressive stance of other parties, they will still have huge support in Scotland and there could well be a wish for a new referendum.
By demonising the SNP, David Cameron could bring about the very push for Scottish independence that he claims to want to avoid.
By the way, soontobe, thank you for this comment :
Can I say that I think that voters on gransnet who support Labour, and lean towards Labour have been quite magnaminous on this thread tonight.
Pub landlord got about 333 votes I think.
Farage is out. I think he will resign
Well
That's Forage resigning too!
Tegan
Thanet results coming up soon/ Farage and The Pub Landlord.
Its a great pity that its all so tribal. Either Socialists good/Tories bad or vice versa. Is it time to forget the traditional groupings and work a bit smarter? ie the socialists among you join the Tories and work from within to try to alter policy rather than just try to fight it out? The old fashioned way plainly isn't working.
It is a great shame about the Lib Dems. We do need more moderate clear thinkers. I reckon they'll be back next time. We'll need them.
Ana
I was being sarcastic. Miliband is by far better than her.
No, he'll resign. Harperson will love being in charge...
I really don't like that woman
.
I think I have had my question answered by Damien McBride.
Harperson will likely be caretaker for the coming months. Best Miliband stays on.
I'm so annoyed that I had the tv on all night but dozed through most of it. Feeling a bit shell shocked this morning by it all. There seems [at first glance] to be a bit of sniping going on on her, but could be wrong as I'm still half asleep and haven't read through properly. So I'll say this. I've always been a Labour voter but was considering not doing so this time. In the end, I did, and I'm glad that I did. However, I haven't felt comfortable at the thought of the two Eds being in power andI guess it's better for the economy that the Conservatives are still in power, because everything depends on a strong economy. I'm very sorry for the LibDems and still think they are the most decent of all of the parties. I'm sure they reined in the Tories from doing a lot of things that they would have liked to do over the last 5 years and am dreading what is likely to happen over the next 5.; heaven help the NHS, state education, and those who depend on the welfare state. I'm disgusted at the thought of so many people voting UKIP even though it didn't result in them having many MP's. As for the SNP, they seemed to have effectively stopped the UK from ever having a socialist government of any kind in the future and, having complained that Westminster only care about the south [which is true] they seem to only care about the north [isn't that two faced?]. I'm sure that a lot of people voted Conservative because they hated the thought of the SNP holding the balance of power in some way.Whatever I feel myself, I only want whats best for the country as a whole and this election seems to have been based on people wanting what's best for themselves. It'll be interesting to see where we are in 5 years time. I may rejoin the Labour Party because I know that, at grass roots level, they are a caring party and it's vital for the country that there is a strong opposition [for that reason I hope that Ed Milliband stands down
]. How did 'The Pub Landlord' do, by the way??
The older I get, the more I realise that courage is a very important factor in a persons' life.
It no longer seems to be taught as a life lesson, but it is important in lots of things in life.
Question.
If the BBC are correct and Miliband does stand down is Harriet Harperson in charge until a new leader is elected?
Conservatives may not be 'bothered enough' to participate in the GN politics forum, but that doesn't mean they aren't 'bothered enough' to care about politics.
Merlot

No, silence is cowardly if you think something is unjust but shut up about it. (I realise you're being sarcastic by the way).
surely the reason that there are more comments from left wingers is because right wingers aren't bothered enough to participate?
Silence is golden
Some people are wondering how it is that the Scots voted against independence and yet have overwhelmingly supported the SNP in this general election.
The "Better Together" campaign seemed to me to put forward two contradictory views at the same time: (1) Scotland was an important part of the UK, without which the UK would be sadly lacking, both economically and culturally; and (2) Scotland was of little economic importance to the UK and would find itself impoverished if it broke with the UK.
Having been persuaded by both the weasly words of the "Better Together" campaign and/or the underlying threats regarding membership of the EU, currency, etc., the Scottish people must have been incensed to see that the whole thrust of the Conservative general election campaign was to demonise Scotland.
It's my opinion that this insulting and shameful about-turn has been instrumental in alienating even those Scottish people who formerly voted against independence.
Labour also bears responsibility for the fact that they have taken the Scottish vote for granted and, like all other parties, are too London-centric. In addition they joined with the Conservatives in the "Better Together" campaign and by so doing have probably alienated many Scottish voters who now see Labour as part of the "City of London club". The Conservatives can depend on the massive support they receive from the right wing press and big business but Labour has to actually earn its support and not take a single vote for granted.
soontobe How do the "left voters" shut other people up? If there are, as the Gransnet survey seemed to indicate, far more Conservative supporters on here than Labour ones, surely the reason that there are more comments from left wingers is because right wingers aren't bothered enough to participate?
I managed till 4am.
Your 2nd paragraph is correct imo, soontobe
No, Mishap, I needed a good night's sleep as I have DGD later!
