Bugger it that's the next election lost.

In theory that sounds perfect; in practice I think it will be very difficult if only because tax laws are so complex. They do need reforming but I don't think there are any quick fixes.

Some tax avoidance is legal because we allow it to be - usually using loopholes in the law. Close some of these and the result would increase income to treasury.

Interesting articles. I read Michael Meacher's blog on Friday because I wondered where he was standing on Corbyn as Leader. I always had a soft spot for MM (except when he was Minister of the dept I worked for grin and like to think he'll step up to play an active role, even if it is just to publicly support the new team.

The Private Eye reference is interesting because the Cayman banks have just said the information the government wants will not be made available. Can't remember who is in charge of the project, but his words were "There's more than one way to skin a cat." Personally, I think the cat will keep its skin for the reasons MM gives - it involves Tory Party contributors. It won't just be the Tories though. Tax avoidance is legal as we keep being reminded.

Another way Corbyn might get support.
Why are MPs not backing him? Why are they so ready to put him down?
He gained the support of most of those eligible to vote. They should accept that. Otherwise they are the ones who will split the party, not Corbyn.

After a week of verbal attacks it is nice to read Jen

This was a surprise. Anthony Seldon, ex headmaster of Wellington College, talking about Corbyn.

"But I??m surprised to hear that Seldon is something of a Corbyn admirer.

??I think he??s an extraordinarily credible, powerful, articulate and adept figure. In terms of leadership ability, he??s far ahead of the other three. Of course he??s older and more experienced, but he has an authenticity that is very attractive.?? "

An interesting article from Paul Krugman in the New York Times.

www.nytimes.com/2015/09/14/opinion/paul-krugman-labours-dead-center.html?ribbon-ad-idx=4&rref=collection/column/paul-krugman

I also read another interesting article about how, if Corbyn is going back to the 80's, his policies are closest to the SDP. Now that's interesting.

Here's Haldane talking about QE.

I always find the comments very good ( I would say interesting, but four times in one post is a bit much, even for me) after one of these taxresearch articles. Many of them are from well-known economists.

Ah thanks rose I think Keynes was actually about 32 not 15, and to think his theory is simplistic is perhaps a misunderstanding of it.

The 15 year old is in soon's post above.

Yes, I have heard this theory too.
Simplistic economics.

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 20:53:53

No I suppose not. Come on soon who is 15, and how do you know?

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:46:11

Hope he is OK and it soon mends.

Not him then if he's incapacitated.

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 20:44:49

My grandson is 15 and just broken his wrist playing football at school.

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:43:01

It's the boy across the road from me
don't know what he has done, he seems a perfectly nice boy although his mum says he can be a bit stroppy sometimes.

Oh heck, we'll get told off for not being serious. wink

Ana Sat 19-Sept-15 20:40:31

But what about the 15 year old soon? confused

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 20:39:31

Good-oh - who is 15?

soontobe Sat 19-Sept-15 20:38:14

rq. No not you.

Why you still think I am annoyed is beyond me whitewave.

But since you say you are not either, then all is well.

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:26:41

We Xd posts, soon and I hope you meant someone else not me, as I don't know any 15 year olds
(apart from neighbour's son confused)

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 20:16:58

What 15 year old?

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 20:16:02

I wasn't defending dj nor am I annoyed with you smile soon I am not someone who gets easily annoyed, I am too laid back for that or so my family and friends say.

Just to get back to the subject I simply joined in the conversation, as dj and I tend to agree as you are no doubt aware, that is all. When you think about it, I am not worth getting the hump about, I matter very little in your life, just someone to talk to or not (apparentlysmile). No problem.

soontobe Sat 19-Sept-15 20:11:51

I presume you got annoyed re the 15 year old.
It had to be said.
I have held back for ages, but since the subject of qe feels like it is brought up by either yourself or dj almost daily, I gave up and said it. Actually , when I posted it, I was thinking of dj's posts about it, but soon remembered that you bring it up quite frequently too.

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:11:36

And now? He said he intended to return to Labour as a result of Corbyn becoming leader and would vote Labour in the Scottish parliament election in May

A quote from djen's link which I find interesting.

How many others will feel the same?

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:09:16

Thanks for the link re Scotland djen

soontobe Sat 19-Sept-15 20:05:41

No. But I can tell you are with me.

I thought your post was ridiculous. dj does not need defending.

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 19:55:49

grin oh have I annoyed you?

soontobe Sat 19-Sept-15 19:53:48

I never think one poster is speaking for another! shock

So my post to dj[who is not you in the slightest] still stands.

For what it is worth, I dont agree that the worst is not over re China. I may have already said that.
Cuts- yes I think he is going for some more. Definitely.
