just heard that Corbyn declined to meet the Queen and join the Privy Council. He will be the first Leader of the Opposition to do this, or the first Leader of the Government come to that.Interesting!
Another thing that won't sit well with the voting public, along with not singing the National Anthem ( but lustily singing the red flag song.)
He is keeping to his principles ( as a back bencher) but this can't end well for a would be Leader.

stb I am not picking you up on what you said, just expressing how I feel! smile

soon, please don't use a few words from the bible to support your opinion.

anniebach
Why can't soon use whatever phrases she likes to support her opinion? We may not agree with whatever is posted, but then we don't have to, we can think for ourselves.
After all, lots of people post links to articles from journalists and pundits to support their opinions, which are not necessarily what other posters agree with.

It is interesting to see what other people think and what supports their views.

oh you got there before me......

Blimey Gracesgran were you both in a race to be right?? grin

I really couldn't care less about JC or HM for that matter. Don't know why I even posted on this JC Fan club thread anyway.

gillybob Thu 08-Oct-15 14:34:20

Oh you mean other people ARE actually allowed a view rose? I was beginning to wonder.

rosequartz Thu 08-Oct-15 14:36:42

gillybob grin

DH says it takes a lot to shut me up .....

gillybob Thu 08-Oct-15 14:39:43

.....and me too rosequartzgrin

mind you I mostly talk a load of rubbish

Anniebach Thu 08-Oct-15 14:50:22

Rosequartz, for the simple reason every sentence plucked from the bible without book , chapter and verse quoted too, is making use of the bible to support one's view but possibly completely out of context . If this is done in a discussion it makes it impossible for the person to reply

If we were discussing the death penalty and you were in favour you could quote many sentences which could seem to support it, yet you could be quoting from Leviticus which is simply Jewish laws, in fact Leviticus was at one time called 'the law of the priest'

I quite like the idea of being a Privy Counsellor, would I have to wear fancy dress? And a free lunch at Buckingham Palace? I would have lots of good advice to impart.
If they are known as The Right Honourable, will Jeremy ask to be known as The Left Honourable?

Cameron was appointed December 2005 and sworn in March 2006

rosequartz! grin

There may be a way to make him a member of the Privy Council without him taking an oath. It's an interesting one, because has never happened before.
We shall see.

rosesarered Thu 08-Oct-15 15:06:48

RQ, you would do anything for a free lunch! grin

rosequartz Thu 08-Oct-15 15:07:07

Is this supposed to be a serious thread?

Oh dear, apologies to everyone who wants to be serious.
I will go back to the knitting thread.

rosesarered Thu 08-Oct-15 15:10:00

There must have been Leaders of parties in the past with Rebuplican views,
But if they did have, they still went through with the oath of allegiance( or whatever it is called.)

rosesarered Thu 08-Oct-15 15:11:05

It can be as serious or as funny as you like RQ.smile

rosequartz Thu 08-Oct-15 15:15:45

Thank you.

Luckygirl Thu 08-Oct-15 15:22:18

He can do it by post - as I said above.

gillybob Thu 08-Oct-15 15:38:38

Well this is all very interesting...doing it by post whoever would have thought?

I wonder what else he will refuse to join/take part in?

Surely there are limits to what you can do by post especially now that a first class stamp is 63p..... not sure how much for 2nd though hmm

rosesarered Thu 08-Oct-15 15:50:05

I think Corbyn prefers to do most things by text or social media.

gillybob Thu 08-Oct-15 15:57:29

Oh well thats better then roses he can tweet his way through everything. Much quicker.

rosesarered Thu 08-Oct-15 16:00:32

Yup, fast thumbs! grin

nigglynellie Thu 08-Oct-15 16:01:54

Poor soon being told yet again what she can or can't do! Is it against the law to quote the Bible if somebody wishes to during a discussion? If so I haven't heard about it. I imagine this covers all holy books, again, I've never heard that anybody has the right to make this request. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

soontobe Thu 08-Oct-15 16:13:14

If you want chapter and verse, I can certainly supply them.
I didnt before, because this thread is not in the religious/spiritual topic, so I didnt think it was appropriate.

whitewave Thu 08-Oct-15 16:13:44

Just listening to what the privey council does. Not a lot as far as I can see.

gillybob Thu 08-Oct-15 16:18:21

There seems to be plenty of them "not doing a lot" then. whitewave
