Should we bomb De-ash/ISIS in Syria?

Blair took us into the Iraq war (to keep his American allies happy) and the Middle East was de-stabilised.
Its even more unstable and Cameron seems keen to send bombers there, presumably to keep his EU allies happy (given his negotiations...).
ISIS/DEA-SH thrive on chaos. They are a death cult aimed at hastening the end of the world. (Day of Judgement, Islam style).
Given the chaos in Syria and Iraq with all the different factions on the ground and Russia joining the throng in the air I cannot see why joining in would be either helpful or wise.
The poor civilians on the ground are now in fear of Assad, De-ash/ISIS and the bombs.
Cameron's arguments are thin.
Here are some more arguments on the other side voxpoliticalonline.com/2015/11/27/how-many-innocents-will-die-because-of-right-wing-labours-petulance/
Your MP will be heading back to their constituency to think about this over the weekend.
If you are against the bombing please, please write to your MP.
You can use this very easy site. You just type in your postcode and the site will ensure that your MP gets your email. They will be getting lots of emails on the subject so there is no need to be long-winded, so it's a 5 minute task. www.writetothem.com

Good heavens, Cameron has just said he respects people who have a different view. Do you believe him?

durhamjen Wed 02-Dec-15 22:04:58

Sorry, that was from earlier. To fill in the usual gap when the vote takes place.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 02-Dec-15 22:05:05

People who say we have learned nothing from Iraq and Afghanistan are wrong. Today's debate shows how much thought was given to the situation by so many MPs.

Ana Wed 02-Dec-15 22:06:58

I agree with you, Wilma.

POGS Wed 02-Dec-15 22:16:17

Yes some excellent speeches, intelligent, knowledgeable and I take my hat off to them, they certainly had some outside influences to contend with sadly.

YouGov and the Times have some fresh Syria polling tonight, conducted on Monday evening and during the day on Tuesday. It shows a sharp drop in support for airstrikes since YouGov’s polling a week ago, but the overall balance of opinion is still in favour: 48% now support RAF airstrikes against ISIS in Syria, 31% are opposed. A week ago the figures were 59% to 20%

I don't think that 48% in favour, 31% opposed is a majority.

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:33:05

Philip Hammond has just said that the planes are ready to go, if not tonight, then tomorrow night. It worries me that he's said that.

They are always in a state of readiness - I thought everyone realised that?

Galen Wed 02-Dec-15 22:33:30

174 majority in favour of bombing sad

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:34:35

^I don't think that 48% in favour, 31% opposed is a majority.^In response to djen's post saying the majority of the public are against air strikes.

whitewave Wed 02-Dec-15 22:35:24

And so it starts.

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:35:40

Sorry, have to shut off Emily Rowberry.

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:37:31

DJ Nick Robinson suggested that he has been identified as a future leader
whitewave, can I respond to that too?

Yes, perhaps his time has come (why didn't he stand before?).

A vote in government does not necessarily reflect the public's view - it may do of course, but it cannot be assumed.

The decision was inevitable, but is a huge source of concern to me and many others. I believe it t be a mistake; and hope that we do not reap some very unfortunate rewards.

wotanuisanceABC123 Wed 02-Dec-15 22:40:20

Oh, God. just seen result of vote. Awful.

durhamjen Wed 02-Dec-15 22:40:27

Not ready with the right sort of missiles roseq.
However they have just said that the planes in Cyprus are ready to strike Raqqa overnight.
I hope they give enough warning to the civilians.

whitewave Wed 02-Dec-15 22:42:54

Imagine if it was your town or village. What would you be doing tonight?

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:43:02

A vote in government does not necessarily reflect the public's view - it may do of course, but it cannot be assumed.

Even a public opinion poll is only reliant on the people polled - it is not a reflection of the views of the whole public.
I have not been asked my views on anything in a poll for years.

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:44:44

Not ready with the right sort of missiles roseq.

Oh. Perhaps you know more about missiles than I do djen - do they intend to use different ones then, than the ones they are using against ISIL in Iraq?

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:47:35

Imagine if it was your town or village. What would you be doing tonight?
Presumably they will be doing what they have been doing over the past four years of hell in Syria.
We can only pray for them.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 02-Dec-15 22:48:10

Interesting that the gov would have won the vote without the labour lot. All that trouble in the ranks for nothing really.

whitewave Wed 02-Dec-15 22:50:45

Oh yes I hadn t given that any thought. Was the government side whipped?

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 02-Dec-15 22:51:22

At the risk of sounding like a drama queen, tonight feels like I am watching the first steps towards the next world war. Now I am more worried about Russia and China as Assad's allies than Da-esh. On the news just now an American military officer just confirmed Russia's air strikes are still mainly against the moderate groups the International Coalition hopes to work with in the fight against Da-esh.

whitewave Wed 02-Dec-15 22:55:43

Apparently if they exist a d it isn't clear they do then they are in the
wrong place anyway
Assad will never let them aid the coalition

rosequartz Wed 02-Dec-15 22:56:57

They are all going to have to come to a compromise over Assad I think Wilma (unfortunately).

Luckygirl Wed 02-Dec-15 22:58:44

I know how you feel Wilma. Hopefully I will be gone when it happens, but my DDs and GC.............. sad
