This Government has definitely lost the plot

This has been mentioned on another thread, but I think it is important enough to warrant a thread of its own.

Farm animals are no longer to be protected by welfare codes. These are to scrapped by this government.

What sort of message is that giving to those farmers whose priority is not the animal welfare?

I despair! What is the matter with them. What else are they going to not care about?

I am not vegetarian, but worry about the meat I do eat and so always buy organic free range as I feel it is the best I can do if I eat the animal.

This can't be right.

That's a good U turn though.

whitewave Thu 07-Apr-16 22:05:58

Oh! Let me kiss someone that is so good. I shall totter to bed a happier person.

durhamjen Thu 07-Apr-16 22:11:52

That's in less than a fortnight. Is that a record?
Not one the government will be proud of, but we can be, for putting a stop to it.
Just shows the power of the public.
Now what other u-turns do we want them to make?

whitewave Thu 07-Apr-16 22:19:36

I think everything is being seen through the prism of the referendum. Blimey what else can we do?

Bedroom tax
Row back on human rights
Stop turning all schools into academies
Just for a start.

Oh and ease up on austerity, by applying some basic common sense and Keynsian economics

Anniebach Thu 07-Apr-16 22:21:02

Just so whitewave

daphnedill Thu 07-Apr-16 22:22:33

It IS a good U turn (I think the tax credits and disability cuts were good U turns too), but it really makes them seem like a bunch of chancers, who come up with ideas on the back of a fag packet and see how much they can get away with. Where's the planning or sticking to manifesto promises?

daphnedill Thu 07-Apr-16 22:23:06

Academies, dj.

whitewave Thu 07-Apr-16 22:25:46

I feel so happy - pathetic really. I think we ought to push for even greater animal welfare.

durhamjen Thu 07-Apr-16 22:29:04

Actually bedroom tax should be on the way out soon.
The size of a bedroom has been ruled on in law, and many people have discovered that they have one bedroom less than their landlord says they have.
So many people are going to reclaim their money that the system may well break.

Has anyone mentioned that they have now decided to drop the tests for four year olds.

weownit.org.uk/evidence/land-registry

They have been crowdfunding to get a report done on the selloff of the land registry. They have enough money now for a challenge, so hopefully it will be the next uturn.
They might even have done it by the time you read this!

Definitely academies, daphnedill.

If it's really true that they're scrapping the whole crazy idea, that's great news - thank goodness. Animal welfare certainly isn't perfect but it would be a good deal worse if the industry were left to regulate itself. Aside from the inevitability of a higher incidence of cruel and negligent treatment of animals, it would have put consumers at far more risk than they are already.

We have seen in other areas - banks, police operations, food industry, etc., etc., that self-regulation or light touch regulation just doesn't work. I truly think this government is becoming more deranged by the minute.

durhamjen Fri 08-Apr-16 01:28:24

Just had an email from Viva! asking me to sign a petition to stop it.
That must be the first petition I haven't signed.

whitewave Fri 08-Apr-16 09:57:26

Be interested to list how many u turns have been made since 2010 there seems to have been loads

durhamjen Fri 08-Apr-16 13:31:45

32 in the first two years, whitewave.

wot Fri 08-Apr-16 13:40:35

Anniebach, I too can't abide cruelty or neglect to animals/birds.

wot Fri 08-Apr-16 13:43:04

Ha ha! Durham, and Timothy Leary as well as Aldous Huxley.

daphnedill Fri 08-Apr-16 13:46:16

I agree with you, chelseababy. I can't say I'm thrilled about the raising of the female pension age to 65, but I did know about it 20 years ago. The second rise was announced with far too little notice - and this affects both men and women. I'm also pi$$ed off that the 'flat' rate is nothing of the sort. I'll lose my SERPs/SP2 and won't get the full rate because I was contracted out for a number of years. There's a huge gap between the 'headline' and the reality.

Anniebach Fri 08-Apr-16 14:05:14

wot, many have fought so hard to get some protection for animals , the thought of all that campaigning for so long just being scrapped made me so angry

whitewave Fri 08-Apr-16 17:39:26

32 u turns in the first 5 years - is that a record?
