A thread for those who are voting OUT of the EU to make it fair

Surveys only tell you something about the small sample of those who were willing to fill it in. I joined YOUGOV a few years ago. Soon got bored with their repetitive and sometimes badly written questionnaires.

Oh, for Pete's sake drop it, Gracesgran ! Many, many things are posted on gransnet with the proviso "In my opinion . . ." or "I suspect that . . ." or some such modifier. I have posted that kind of thing myself without being lambasted.

On the political threads, in particular, much is said that could be taken by some readers to mean that they are stupid, lazy, ignorant or just plain stubborn, for not agreeing with one side of a debate. Surely reading that someone has a gut feeling that one group seems optimistic and the other pessimistic is not going to send anyone into a decline?

Have you considered the possibility (remote, I am sure) that accusing thatbags of being inconsiderate when she were doing no such thing could produce as much pain and angst as the posting you are condemning?

There must be more worthwhile posts that you could make.

Actually, I do take account of not offending people. I always try to think of the most detached and impersonal way of saying something so that nobody takes offence. However, I'm not perfect and sometimes in my haste and in my enthusiasm I get it unintentionally wrong. Also, as I've mentioned before, the fact that someone has taken offence does not necessarily mean that there was anything to take offence about,

I think that our reasons for deciding in or out of the EU has a lot to do with the experiences life has dealt us. As it happens I was brought up in a political household so have always had a keen interest in what has gone on. My opinion about the EU has developed over many years - I have in effect not needed to actually make a decision in the last few months. At times I have been exasperated at what they appear to be doing and many other times I have applauded their bravery when ignoring the wrath of big companies.
I know that some people have been flung into making a decision in a very short space of time - whichever way we decide to vote we shall have to live with the outcome. We may also find our decision affects other countries by the fall out if we decide to exit so it is possible their attitude to the UK will change too.We will need to remember it was our choice if things go wrong whatever the outcome.

Alea it's not lack of education why we read some papers it's just that we don't someone reporting us for putting what they don't like, so I would say we read grown up papers.
Funny how popular this thread is for people who seem to be on just to attack perhaps they would miss that if we had our own thread.

It's strange whenever you go into WH Smiths or the supermarket it's always the Daily Mail that's sold out first.

The EU of 27 other countries cant even get together and sort out the migrant crisis coming into Europe from the Middle East - which is illegal. When it first happened it was everyone for themselves - putting up fences and saying "To hell with free movement". There is now all this claptrap about how hard it will be for us to actually leave the EU even if there is a Leave vote - what is this? another fascist regime, that we are all told, they are trying to avoid, its a disgraceful joke when criminals can't be deported and their countries wont accept them back.
Imigration is the problem, this country is geographically finite along with all its resources, the people wanting to stay in are generally of the socialist persuasion and usually recieving some kind of funding from it.
There is a marked lack of back-bone in all this, let's do something about it for a change.

Ok sarahetc what will you do about it. I have asked the Leavers to explain what the term "We will protect our own borders" actually means and no-one ever answers. We have a working arrangement with France at the moment which means our border is actually in Calais. With Brexit will it revert to Dover ? If so will we have to set up camps for refugees and migrants? Why should France stop them from crossing the channel as it now does? Come on Brexiters explain how it will work.

Huge numbers of people knew it would be a huge influx Welshwife. You only have to read threads about it from last year on gransnet to see that.

Why "not bags", Alea. All posts have been in answer to hers. Had she stopped going back to the topic there would have been no reply. I just saw it as an issue of logic and was happy to discuss it, as I am happy to discuss this with you.

As for others not having lives to lead, I certainly do. I care for my mother and had driven over to her, sorted out what needed to be sorted and come back to find more posts on the topic. It is not unreasonable to believe people who are discussing it want to discuss it. I had stopped when I left the house
