As we have a who to replace Cameron thread, thought we may as well speculate as to who ( if anyone) Labour voters ( or any voters) fancy for the job? Should he go, or should he sweat it out?

She's been an MP since 1992, which makes her one of the longest serving. I think if she were ambitious, she'd have made moves before now.

Anniebach Wed 29-Jun-16 22:38:12

I agree Daphne, I truely believe she is putting the party and so the vulnerable in this country before her own ambitions

TwiceAsNice Thu 30-Jun-16 07:54:36

I don't care I've never voted for Labour in my life

Lazigirl Thu 30-Jun-16 15:31:16

I do care, not just because I am Labour supporter, but think it is important for our democracy to have an effective opposition to hold government to account. Am very sad to see Labour Party choosing such a moment to tear themselves to pieces.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jun-16 15:40:30

It can be and will be mended Lazigirl

rosesarered Thu 30-Jun-16 16:43:15

....really? when?

yggdrasil Thu 30-Jun-16 16:51:29

One of the reasons people voted Leave was as a protest against the austerity measures and savage cuts the Tory govt has imposed. Jeremy Corbyn has been clear that he opposes that, and a large number of the public would vote for an alternative view. The PLP has worked against Corbyn from the start. It is the 172 who must consider where they stand. They are all those who came in under Blair, and Angela Eagle in particular voted for the Iraq war, and for bombing Syria very recently. They must realise that those who left the Labour party when Blair took the party to the right are those (like me) who have come back now.

rosesarered Thu 30-Jun-16 17:09:04

that doesn't help find a good strong capable leader for Labour though does it?most Labour voters on Gransnet seem to accept that now is the moment he should leave, for the good of the Labour Party as a whole.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jun-16 17:11:46

Why Angela Eagle in particular? The majority voted for

Anniebach Thu 30-Jun-16 17:31:44

I voted for Corbyn , now I do think he should resign, it's sad, because he is a good man but i feel let down by his lack of campaigning leading up to the referendum vote. He refused to take part in a televised debate, he held one tv appearance, on his own and only with young people, this is not what I want for a leader , John MacDonald speaks for him, and I do not like his constant reference to - we. I did not vote for McDonald . I think the treatment he received from the blairites was so wrong, but the second shadow cabinet members were mostly new MP's , I do not want another Blair but i do want a leader who doesn't need protection from a group of young women as happened this morning.

tanith Thu 30-Jun-16 18:03:13

Angela Eagle has decided not to stand... OMFG!! When will it end? angry

Anniebach Thu 30-Jun-16 18:10:20

I heard it saud this morning she said she wouldn't make an announcement today, has she now saud she isn't standing tanith?

tanith Thu 30-Jun-16 18:12:44

Thats what they just said on the BBC News..

tanith Thu 30-Jun-16 18:21:27

Oh my, at the start of the News they said she's not standing, now they are saying she hasn't said anything, they want to make up their bloody minds. Sorry its making me very angry

GandTea Thu 30-Jun-16 18:28:03

To quote the BBC "Eagle may delay leader bid 'to give Corbyn time to quit'"

I can't see how he can hang on. Up until the last election, I have been a labour supporter all my life, but they have to have a strong leader that has the backing of his/her MP's. Miliband was not that person IMO, neither is Corbyn.

I would love to have a difficult choice at the next election because both (or more) parties are all up to the job.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jun-16 19:19:24

What happened to Ruth Smeeth this morning was s disgrace , one of Corbyns supporters reduced her to tears and she fled the room. Wake up Corbyn you are being used

Leticia Thu 30-Jun-16 19:39:14

I don't mind as long as it isn't Corbyn. A lot of people have flocked to join the Labour Party to support him but many to vote against him. You have to have been a member of the Tory party 3 months to get a vote but not sure about the Labour Party.

Elrel Thu 30-Jun-16 23:29:42

Keir Starmer, anyone? It seems that 16/17 year olds in London are impressed by him.

Elrel Thu 30-Jun-16 23:31:03

Is Angela Eagle still in the running? I'd like to see her opposite Theresa May at PMQ!!

In my view, during the referendum campaign Jeremy Corbyn was the only politician who gave an honest account of himself. He had in the past expressed grave misgivings about the EU and maintained the view that it was an institution which needed either abolishing or radically reforming.

On the other hand, he (like many people, including myself), recognised that the EU, despite its failings, has significantly strengthened environmental and consumer protections, and workers' rights. Added to that, the very racist campaign run by the Leave group may have been the final factor in persuading some people towards the Remain side.

The Remain camp in the Labour Party are annoyed because they felt JC didn't provide the unequivocal support needed to make a successful campaign. I actually believe it was the very same people's tactic of bringing in Obama, Mark Carney, senior business people, etc., etc., which smacked of bringing in "the heavies", that got people's backs up.

Some of the Leave camp in the Labour Party are also annoyed that JC dropped his longstanding opposition to the EU and campaigned to remain. They feel he did this in order to placate the strong Remain faction in the party, but I still feel that he supported Remain not because he is wholeheartedly in favour of the EU but possibly because he is a life long campaigner against racism - and the tone of the Leave campaign appeared to many to be racist.

I don't think JC is the most dynamic man in the world but I think out of nearly all the politicians we have got he is probably one of the most straight forward and honest.

It seems that some Labour people are only willing to support JC's honesty and single mindedness when his views and behaviour are totally in alignment with their own.

I think Angela Eagle can be quite an impressive speaker but because she voted for tuition fees, consistently voted for the Iraq War/generally votes in favour of military action,
voted against an investigation into the Iraq War and voted to replace Trident, I wouldn't support her.

Anniebach Fri 01-Jul-16 08:58:17

Most of the labour MP's voted for iraq war.

I agree Corbyn is honest, this was the reason I voted for him as leader . I now think he should stand down,. He did fail during the referendum campaign , leader of the Labour Party who refused to join to debates, same as Cameron did in the general election. One tv debate , no oposition and the audience were chosen by age. He didn't reach out to the villages and small towns in the country . South, Mid and North Wales are not three counties , yet Mid Wales which is rural wasn't deemed worthy of a visit by him , we had to travel fifty miles if we wanted to hear his views. My local party voted for him, I know other L P here did too, we were fighting the Tories and UKIP , where was he? Even Johnson considered up worthy of a visit by a politician . Not enough young people here for him. I am against trident , I campaigned against the Iraq war , people are living in poverty in this country ,suicide are rising mental health problems are rising
The number of homeless is rising, we need the Labour Party . We do not need John MacDonald smiling on our tv screens almost daily, I did not vote for him as leader , my local party did not vote for him as leader but seems we have got him as leader. I have heard Corbyn quite a few times over the years , brilliant at miners rallies , brilliant at anti war demonstrations , he is speaking to the bloody converted

Anniebach Fri 01-Jul-16 09:00:22

Elrel, I don't think anything will done this week

yggdrasil Fri 01-Jul-16 15:51:49

Chilcot Report out on July 6th. Why do you think the haste to get Corbyn out right now? And why do you think he is going nowhere in a hurry :-)

Anniebach Fri 01-Jul-16 15:57:33

What difference will Corbyn being leader or not make to the report ? Do explain because I can't see what you seem to
