Could Labour 'split'. Tom Watson calls off talks.

No Annie a case of be open and honest, don't moan about how awfully you have been treated when you said nothing at the time and don't (and I think this is about the worst thing any woman can do) base your opinions on what is whispered behind people's backs. By all means disagree with someone but use valid arguments and argue about policies openly. I can't help it if her article follows a pattern I have seen many times before.

It's Game of Thrones territory [Varys?]. I guess, as a politician, you have to decide when to put the good of the country as a whole before your own personal feelings. Not easy decisions to make.

An honest person would say as Alan Johnson said when asked to for leadership - no, I know my limitations , a honest man

When going through cancer treatment I would think it takes a little time to get one's self straight trisher . You have an advantage over me, I cannot help but believe a person who experienced what this woman did would lie, you just dismiss her with - heard it all before attitude

I didn't say she lied just that her argument and reasons were unsound and unattractive. I have many friends who have gone through treatment for cancer. Most of them did their jobs and got on with things some told people some didn't. If she didn't want to be considered for a post at the time she could have said so. I dislike all this telling stories about someone once an attack has started. It isn't necessary and it smacks of conspiracy and bullying. Exactly in fact what she is complaining of.I like politicians who stick to stating policies and plans not moan about how badly they have been treated.

People give interviews , fact, and I do not consider her telling of her distress of coping with cancer and trying to hold down a job with a boss who it seems couldn't organise the proverbial p up in a brewery as moaning. God knows what attacks she endured because she stood down , she put her reasons forward and I don't condemn her as a moaner

If you could choose any MP to lead the party who would it be?

My dream would be for Hilary Benn to create the sort of society his father wanted. I know people will say that he's not his fathers son because he's too right wing, but that's what my heart says . I so want someone to speak in a way that stops me feeling tired and depressed about politics and gives me some sort of hope for the future.

I like Hilary Benn, there is a calmness in him and this reminds me of his father. I think he has the same views as his father but is centre of the party, centre means balance for me

Alan Johnson. Although I disagreed with him on the referendum he always comes across as honest. And one of the few now who has done a proper job.

I have just received a report of that NEC meeting from our Branch Secretary and it makes very interesting reading. I believe there are versions online but I haven't found those yet to compare. It was obviously a very fraught meeting but does appear to have been conducted in strict observance of the rules. It does highlight how particular you have to be today in drawing up rules and consider every eventuality and leave no loopholes. The gentleman's agreement no longer holds any sway.
Some points raised:
Desire for a secret ballot because of abuse suffered by some whose personal details were published online;
Exclusion of JC as leader from the meeting which had been the code of conduct norm in these circumstances previously;
Near unanimous opposition to the £3 supporters being eligible as their commitment was dubious and full time members felt undervalued;
The date for eligibility as all members have to be checked to ensure they are bona fide and committed. That takes time and can result in delays to election process;
Affiliated members to have same cut off. Scentists for Labour have suspended applications string that they are not a fast track way for non-members to dictate who will lead the party;
It was pointed out that true Labour supporters have stuck with the Party and its principles through thick and thin and different leaders and have not hung their hats on one particular individual.

I can't think of one. I definitely couldn't support anyone who voted for bombing Syria. I'd struggle to support anyone who voted to keep trident. Have to think about this one

It is difficult to name a leader who can inspire at the moment but I think there are a batch of younger members on the way who will perhaps fill that space.

There are young MP's coming up but not fir some time, if May waited the full time - which I doubt - we only have three years .

I like Alan Johnson, if he had stood last year he would have won , but he has no wish to be leader , he could bring the party together and this is as much as we can hope for now.

As expected, well he didn't vote for Iraq and voted against war on Syria And he is on the left but not the far left.

The LibDems voted against the Iraq war and war on Syria. What would it take for you to leave the split and chaotic Labour party and join the Liberal Democrats?

I am sorry Angela lost out as she is a valid candidate. I don't though want a woman in there just for the sake of it and because the Tories have had two. Of the Tory two one wrecked entire communities who are still suffering and heavens knows yet what the current incumbent will do.
At least we know the two contestants now. Perhaps we all need a breather from it until it is all hyped up again. A long, hopefully hot, summer ahead.
