Beginning to distrust Jeremy Corbyn

What ever else I may think about JC, I did believe he was a man with principles, who stuck to them.

However, I am beginning to doubt that he is the sea-green incorruptible he is made out to be. Last year he said on television that he saw no case for appointing new peers and would not do so. Now he has nominated Shami Chakrabati fora peerage.

We now read that in a news interview he has suggested he could remain at the helm of the party even after a general election defeat.

Lazigirl Are you seriously saying that you can see JC on the world stage of politics?
He's cring worthy here, let alone amongst world leaders, representing our country.
It would be beyond embarrassing.

Lazigirl Wed 10-Aug-16 18:51:52

Anniebach I was not a member of the Labour Party at that time, but I do remember the militant tendency, and I do not think this is the same. I know from what you have said you have a long active history with the party and as a new member I respect that. I have followed the debate in the media, and on here and have had real difficulty forming a fair opinion with regard to Corbyn. Surely most of his supporters can't be Trotskyists or members of Momentum? I know many like me (of all ages) who want a fairer more equal society and see him not as a super hero but as someone who can represent us, in a less confrontational way than has been typical of politics in the past. I don't want to be a member of a party that must lose all principles and be Tory-lite to get elected?

It's a good thing Corbyn hasn't any fire in his belly (bad, boring orator, that faint look of fear) or he would be really dangerous? I feel he will not be tolerated by his friends in the House for much longer.

MOnica. They have all the Jeeves and Wooster's on Yesterday Channel at 8.p.m.. Brilliant!

daphnedill Wed 10-Aug-16 18:18:53

Andy won't care. He's said he'll resign anyway if he wins the Manchester mayoral election (which he almost certainly will). It will be an interesting by-election. Labour has a huge majority, but Ukip has almost overtaken the Conservatives.

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 17:47:40

Expect Andy is in the list of those to be terminated - deselected

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 17:45:47

petra, I think some had a problem with Kinnock because he was so emotional, the Welsh in him I think , but he was and is a good man . We need some emotion and passion in the party now , sadly lacking

Beammeupscottie Wed 10-Aug-16 17:41:18

It would appear that Andy Burnham is jumping ship to stand as Major of Manchester. There is a suggestion that Corbyn will make a lot of Labour MPs just throw in the Westminster towel.

petra Wed 10-Aug-16 17:33:33

anniebach I remember that speech very well. I was a labour voter at that time but never a fan of Niel Kinnock but that speech had to be made. I think that was the turning point for the change in the Labour Party. I voted for Blair but saw the error of my ways after his first term.
There are plenty of 'Son of Hatton' waiting in the wings.

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 17:07:20

Jalima, thank you so much, it explains my constant yapping on about the 1883 election and the wilderness years which followed, now they are back and Corbyn will welcome them ,I despair and wonder how many Corbyn supporters here were party members at that time, it was a nightmare

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 16:57:21

Slagging off ?Corbyn, no Jen, criticising Corbyn ? Yes

Jalima Wed 10-Aug-16 16:55:09

I found this from a few months ago:
www.independent.co.uk/news/people/derek-hatton-meeting-liverpools-socialist-poster-boy-after-hating-him-for-30-years-a6668916.html

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 16:52:43

Thank you Jalima, I would like to say to those on this thread, I know I irritate and annoy , yes and bore, but I never lie to you, anyway I hope students from any country can spell better than I smile , I am Welsh

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 16:46:21

I have been thinking of a link from Trisher showing a very large turn out for Corbyn in Liverpool, I was st the 1985 conference in Bournemouth, Kinnock made a brilliant speech , he took on the militants, Eric Heffner stormed out, Derek Hatton heckled , anyone interested do look on utube for Kinnocks 1985 speech, it explains why I fear the far left, they were known as the militant wing, they reformed in the 1990's as the socialist party, they have joined the Labour Party, they are on Facebook and Twitter, thry are demanding deselection of labour MP's , Tom Watson was speaking the truth, and there is a large movement in Liverpool - Heffer, Hatton and co were Liverpool militants

petra Wed 10-Aug-16 16:43:56

Thank you jamila I use all the words ( and more) describing JC. But I hadn't thought of, thick! Yes he is, isn't he? Always squirrelling in his pockets for pieces of paper with the answers on which he knows people are going to ask him.
The emperors new clothes spring to mind.

Jalima Wed 10-Aug-16 16:30:59

I seem to have missed much on here including the offending post which sounds as if it could have been just ridiculous, but I will say that anyone is entitled to their opinion and to be able to express it freely without condemnation.
I may not agree with you all the time anniebach smile but I must say I am always interested to read your views - and they give me food for thought.

In my opinion, such as it is, I do not think that Jeremy Corbyn is very bright - not that I mean he is stupid, but just does not have the intellect necessary for the job of HM Leader of the Opposition and definitely not for Prime Minister. Perhaps others realise that too and are using and manipulating him for their own agenda.

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 16:27:33

Yggdrasil, please read my post re Milliband again, I said he leaned to the left and not as you claim I said - he took the Psrty to the left , big difference

petra Wed 10-Aug-16 16:27:14

yggdrasil I think your getting your left and right muddled up. I think ed millibands father would be turning in his grave if he thought Ed was doing that (him being a Marxist )

yggdrasil Wed 10-Aug-16 16:21:20

May I point out that saying Ed Miliband took the party to the left is a bit misleading. He did move it nearer the Lib Dems than the Tories, but that isn't very far.

Devorgilla Wed 10-Aug-16 16:07:15

Trisher, it may have originated with young girls following bands but they didn't have to be available for sex. That was their choice. And if it wasn't their choice then those who forced them into it should be done for it and should have conducted themselves as responsible adults at the time.
dj - perhaps you need to start a new thread to highlight the problems you talk about re NHS etc as this one seems to be about JC as leader. I also think the Cameron legacy one is probably dead in the water now. He's old news, and his legacy best left to the historians. I am not being judgmental of you posting on this thread - just offering a new suggestion to bring to the fore the very real questions you care deeply about and which are not being adequately addressed on either of those threads. It would open your debate up to all political opinions and not just the warring factions in the Labour Party.
AB - you may get your wish of the conference being cancelled as the Guardian points out that they need to sign up a new security firm to replace the last one. The NEC decided to end the contract with them because they have links with Israeli prisons. The only one interested though is one who is anti-Union. Rock and a hard place comes to mind.
Of course not all those who attend the rallies will be Momentum. Some will be tourists fascinated by UK politics and actually being allowed to gather in great numbers, some will be 'the curious', some will be there in the hope of seeing themselves on TV, some will be there in the hope of a ruckus and some will be there just to see if it is for them. There's none so queer as folk or is that politically incorrect and offensive these days?

Anniebach Wed 10-Aug-16 15:56:08

Thank you all X.

DaphneBroon Wed 10-Aug-16 15:51:58

The offending post seems to have been deleted, too bl**dy right.

DaphneBroon Wed 10-Aug-16 15:31:07

I would go further - what a bl**dy cheek, blueskies!!
anniebach and I may not share the same political point of view, but I respect her right to express her genuinely held opinions .
Who do you think you are to wade in with wild accusations which I would not lower myself to repeat?
This forum has seen many heated discussions, particularly on the Politics threads, but nobody has sunk as low as your last post.
You could try an apology or washing your mouth out with soap and water hmm but whatever! please remember your manners in future. angry

petra Wed 10-Aug-16 15:30:52

Blueskies in my opinion she knows and cares more about the Labour Party than you will ever know. Before being so nasty, have a look back on some of her posts and hopefully you will have the decency to opologise to a woman who has fought for the Labour Party through the good and bad years. I'm beyond angry at your post. Fortunately this is a moderated forum, otherwise you would really know what I think.

rosesarered Wed 10-Aug-16 15:21:48

annieb has been a forum member for years and years actually, and although I don't have the same politics would defend her right to say her piece on the threads without calling into question her credentials, what a cheek Blueskies

daphnedill Wed 10-Aug-16 15:18:41

@blueskies

That's a bit rude! Anniebach is no troll! If she is indeed an Israeli student, she's kept up the role of being a Welsh Labour supporter for a heck of a long time.

Who are you?
