Traingate

The silliest thing about the Corbyn "Traingate" fiasco is that before the railways were privatised, I often had to sit on the floor toing and froing between Preston and Edinburgh. Sometimes there was no buffet car. And the toilets were often disgusting.

I guess Corbyn didn't travel by train much back then hmm

However, the trains I travelled on usually had more space for luggage than current Virgin trains.

To whoever reported Gracesgran's post [assuming GN didnt delete it by themselves] thank you very much.
Thank you to all those who are watching out for me nowadays. I appreciate it very much. x

There is no prejudice in my postwhatsoever [and since it is still there I assume GN agree too]. Other posters seem to agree also.

If you still think there is gracesgran, then I suggest you contact GN for them to explain

rosesarered Thu 25-Aug-16 23:36:59

Of course there was no prejudice in Obiones post, it was quite obvious that it was Momentum people who were being mentioned. No wonder Gracesgran post was deleted.

Now..... Back to Traingate! grin

What about scriptgate? I am still surprised he read all his replies at the hustings in Scotland from notes. Why? if he needs them there may be another reason why he refused to appear on the Brexit debates , not forgetting he needed Shami to write and pass him notes when he appeared before the select committee

Beammeupscottie Fri 26-Aug-16 08:46:41

Remember George Bush's earpiece to give him the answers! Another lame duck politician.

Anniebach Fri 26-Aug-16 08:55:29

Yes he did Beam. I do find Corbyn needing notes and avoiding reporters most unusual for a politician , something odd going on

Beammeupscottie Fri 26-Aug-16 09:26:10

Yes, I feel that too. Momentum are getting nastier; perhaps frightened the glove puppet is splitting at the seams.

Anniebach Fri 26-Aug-16 09:32:10

And getting more powerful Beam, why hold that so called festival event the same week as the lsbour party conference , flexing their muscles ?

Beammeupscottie Fri 26-Aug-16 09:38:56

Definitely. The one consolation is that the security services will be monitoring all their shenanigans.

Anniebach Fri 26-Aug-16 09:43:31

True, but they are cunning, keep threats etc for Facebook. Who is behind them ?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 26-Aug-16 10:01:01

Ana grin

Sorry about the "expletive" that wasn't, actually, an expletive.

goose1964 Fri 26-Aug-16 10:16:17

yesterday DH was kicked of a train ( mid journey) that was overcrowded - the guard (a regular) told him that on the way down the train was so crowded that it was a health & saftey issue & refused to crew it unless people were taken off

don't know what they did going down, apart from removing some passengers, but coming back they changed a local stopper into a non stop train & load of people had to change trains . this was GWR

rosesarered Fri 26-Aug-16 15:53:56

I'm always amazed at how many people travel by train ( unless they work in London and have no choice) they are not only busy but very, very expensive.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 26-Aug-16 15:59:17

Usually cheaper than petrol and car parking. And there is the nightmarish traffic queues. Not to even mention the environment.

Sorry, but that must be one of the daftest posts ever put on Gransnet.

nigglynellie Fri 26-Aug-16 16:26:56

Not daft at all when you bear in mind that it is in fact cheaper, quicker and more convenient to do what Owen Smith did and fly!! A rather rude and uncalled for comment Jbf!

rosesarered Fri 26-Aug-16 16:26:59

You can always be relied on jinglfor providing the rude comment of the day.
When travelling long distances ( not by car) we use coaches, much cheaper and never found much delays on the motorways.Obviously, if going to work, then trains are faster, at least if they actually run on time or turn up at all.

Anniebach Fri 26-Aug-16 16:32:18

Fed up,of hearing about trains, if I want to travel by train to London I have to catch a bus 20 miles, then a train 29 miles to get to Cardiff to catch a train to London

durhamjen Fri 26-Aug-16 16:35:38

Flying is worst way to travel for the environment, though.
How is it quicker?

rosesarered Fri 26-Aug-16 16:39:20

DS flies to Glasgow for meetings ( although his arms do get a bit tired.) grin

Anniebach Fri 26-Aug-16 16:43:37

Approx five hours by train London to Glasgow

Approx 1 hour 20 minutes by plane from London to Glasgow

durhamjen Fri 26-Aug-16 17:16:48

But that's not the only time it takes.
How long does it take to get to the airport?
How long do you have to be there before the plane takes off?
I never fly, so do not know these,, but I know that when my son's partner flew from Edinburgh to Copenhagen, an extra 3 hours was needed to ensure she got on the plane both journeys, so it wasn't just the time from when the plane took off.
Admittedly you have to be at the right station at the right time, but that's normal. And if you miss it, there's another one soon.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 26-Aug-16 17:23:51

The post was too daft to not comment on.

Anniebach Fri 26-Aug-16 17:25:18

50 miles for me to get to airport, 50 miles to get to rail station ,

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 26-Aug-16 17:25:55

Why do you think the trains are so overcrowded. It's not because anyone actually enjoys travelling on them. It's necessity.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 26-Aug-16 17:26:37

Sorry re the ruffled feathers.
