Mosborough (Sheffield) result:
LDEM: 45.6% (+31.8)
LAB: 34.1% (-9.2)
UKIP: 12.4% (-9.8)
CON: 6.1% (-7.9)
GRN: 1.8% (-1.3)

The LibDems won a council seat from Labour yesterday with a huge swing. Does anybody know this seat and know what's going on?

No rosesarered it shows that people appreciate someone who draws attention to the appalling state of public transport in this country. It doesn't matter if the actual event was staged or not thousands of people experience the dreadful overcrowding on our trains and they are pleased that someone had the ability to make it newsworthy.

Anniebach Sat 17-Sept-16 15:47:58

Is telling lies an ability ?

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 15:48:20

Sorry, jen, but Corbyn is leaving the poor, disabled and homeless at the mercy of the Tories, if Labour can't get elected and form a government. I really don't think they can. Not only do they need to hang on to all their existing seats, but gain another 100 or so, which would be a miracle. Labour needs the same kind of swing they achieved in 1997.

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 15:50:16

Oh yes, it DOES matter trisher or we may as well accept that everything is lies and just give up on seeing that anything is the truth! Sheesh!

daphnedill Sat 17-Sept-16 15:50:23

@trisher

I think anybody who cares is aware of the appalling state of public transport, but they can't do anything about it, unless a party willing to do something is elected.

PS. Some people don't care.

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 16:00:29

If you believe everything politicians tell you is the truth roses you are sadly misled (I won't call you an idiot I don't believe in name calling). Haven't you heard of "spin"? And if you want a real politician's lie how about "There will be no top down reorganisation of the NHS." The fact is trains are overcrowded and Corbyn made it news, a little manipulation of images does not compare with the lies the Tories have told.

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 16:00:55

I imagine that the only people who don't care are those who never use trains. However I used trains a lot when BR was nationalised and well remember having to stand for journeys and finding trains were filthy. The answer is not an easy one.

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 16:04:40

I think the difference between us Trisher is that I Have too much regard for the truth to imagine that only ONE political Party supplies it. We have all heard of spin, which is just what traingate was all about.

Anniebach Sat 17-Sept-16 16:05:31

Rosesarered, I agree, and the lie about the train was broadcast across to networks, it leaves one question, what else that he says to camera is a lie, what else that he does is staged regardless of truth

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 16:07:25

Once you believe that only your chosen Party has all the answers and all the truth on it's side, then that makes a person a fan ( short for fanatical.)

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 16:09:13

Jeremy has lots of 'fans'

Anniebach Sat 17-Sept-16 16:10:14

daphne, I have been saying the same for so long, , labour has to win power to help the vunerable , nothing can be done in oposition and the party is going to lose not gain a hundred seats

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 17:50:28

I still use trains a lot and I can tell you that the overcrowding with BR was as nothing to that seen on almost every service on the NE line. And of course no one was coining millions then with a nice little subsidy from the tax payer thrown in.

POGS Sat 17-Sept-16 19:11:03

OK did you see the BBC Husting last week ?

I can understand your belief Corbyn has been right in never voting for military action , he will never vote for military action even to defend this country if we disect all he has said.

Last week an audience member questioned Smith and Corbyn about Trident.

Corbyn said this :-

" Can we not put as much as possible pressure on China and the others to the 6 party negotiations about North Korea to try and bring about a de-nuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula in the same way that we have managed to bring about nuclear weapons free zones in other parts of the world including Central Asia, including Africa, including Latin America and discussions about an Arctic Nuclear Free Zone."

" We have managed to BAN CHEMICAL WEAPONS by agreement. We have managed to BAN CLUSTER BOMBS by agreement , surely we can work hard on that"

Reality Check. That very same day we were aware North Korea had carried out it's 5th and largest nuclear test.

Reality Check. Assad had 'continued' using Chemical Weapons and Barrel Bombs in Aleppo against his own people. So tell that to the people in Aleppo and see what their reaction is!

Reality Check. Do you think the UK can put ' pressure on China ' or indeed /Iran/Korea/Russia?

If nobody thinks Corbyn's statement, 'We have managed to BAN CLUSTER BOMBS AND CHEMICAL WEAPONS' is probably one of the stupidest comments made for a long time then words fail me.

Anniebach Sat 17-Sept-16 19:47:53

I heard him POGS, perhaps it's still available on catch up for those who may be interested , perhaps those on the children of Aleppo thread

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 20:06:24

Except that it is entirely true as far as the UK is concerned, One of the achievements of Gordon Brown was his complete ban on the UK's involvement with any cluster bombs. Of course the process isn't complete and the US attitude is particularly worrying "the United States said that cluster bombs are a legal form of weapon, and that they had a "clear military utility in combat." It also said that compared to other types of weapons, cluster bombs are less harmful to civilians." Syria isn't a signatory either but it is certainly an improvement on what was happening before and if the UK could lead in this why not on nuclear disarmament?

POGS Sat 17-Sept-16 20:09:46

I nearly posted Corbyns statement on the Allepo thread actually.

I thought it would be crass to alter the tone , chance the thread moved from it's purpose of discussing the awful actions of Assad and the Barrel Bombing and Chemical Weapons being used .

I find some things strange but how anybody finds what Corbyn said to be intellectually coherent then I do have to wonder.

Anniebach Sat 17-Sept-16 20:12:52

Yet he is believed

POGS Sat 17-Sept-16 20:15:39

trisher

I am sure Kim Jong Un, President Assad, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi
will hang on Corbyn's ever word.

Ana Sat 17-Sept-16 20:17:29

And be really influenced by any decision the UK made about nuclear disarmament...

trisher Sat 17-Sept-16 20:30:51

If a country cannot lead by good example but must set their standards by the least principled rulers then of course you are completely right. I see nothing wrong with believing that doing the right thing is something to aspire to.

Anniebach Sat 17-Sept-16 20:34:39

Then why not say the truth? We should give up all warfare bu this will have no influence on the rest of the world.

Ana Sat 17-Sept-16 20:35:44

In principle, I agree. But what government leader would put the citizens of his/her country at risk for just a pipe-dream?

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 21:10:15

None!

rosesarered Sat 17-Sept-16 21:12:22

Corbyn loves talking, and to talk about talking, to sit on committees, and debate this that and the other. If that's what you need, he is your man ( unless you want real concrete answers.)
