Well this could be interesting.
Rosie Winterton sacked from Chief Whips position and Nick Brown back in the Cabinet again. Baroness Shami Chakrabarti has done very well since joining Labour she is now Shadow Attorney General and Dianne Abbot Shadow Home Secretary, Dawn Butler Shadow Minority Ethnic Communities, Sarah Champion Shadow Women and Equalities Minister and Jo Stevens Shadow Secretary of State for Wales.
It will be interesting to see if any who signed 'No Confidence' in Corbyn can/will be in Corbyn's reshuffled Cabinet Team. Time for 'Unity'?
Then why doesn't Stop The War just fold up?
Putin was on the news saying the same as Corbyn !
Yesterday in Parliament Conservative Andrew Mitchell brought forward an Emergency Debate on 'Allepo and Syria'.
Boris Johnson was responding to a speech made by Labour MP Anne Clwyd , she said this.
Anne Clwyd Labour. 2.00pm. (Extracts)
" That is the question: where is the rage? Where are the demonstrations that we have seen on so many previous occasions—I have taken part in them myself—for example on Iraq, East Timor and Cambodia. Where are those demonstrations now? I want to see—I challenge the people listening to this debate—2 million, 3 million or 4 million people outside the Russian embassy day after day. Let us show them what we think of their actions in Syria and their refusal to bring peace to that country. Russia used carpet bombing tactics in Grozny, and we all know what happened there. The west cannot stay silent, because we know how this could end."
"I therefore call once again on everyone who cares about the plight of Syrian civilians to picket the Russian embassy in London and its embassies in capitals around the world from today. Two million, 3 million, 4 million people—it can be done, and it has been done in the past. That should carry on until the bombing campaign stops and all the relevant players are forced to get around the table to end this horrible war."
Boris Johnson
" I listened to the passionate speeches from the right hon. Member for Cynon Valley (Ann Clwyd) and the hon. Member for Wirral South (Alison McGovern), the co-chair of the all-party friends of Syria group, who is carrying on the tradition of Jo Cox, whom we mourn. I listened to all the speeches that made the point that there is no commensurate horror among some of the anti-war protest groups, and I agree with the right hon. Member for Cynon Valley: I would certainly like to see demonstrations outside the Russian embassy. Where is the Stop the War coalition at the moment?"
Yes Johnson said it but the 'context' of why does not sell papers or make headline news for the public I suppose.
It was good to hear and see the courtesy of the debate was upheld by both sides of the house but it was noticeable back bench Labour MP's involved were nowhere near the front bench, in fact there was little love for Emily Thornberry and I think the topic of Defence will continue to divide Labour.
Of course they could be deselected by the next election as they are 'The Naughty Squad' in some Labour Members eyes, the ones called 'Core Group Negative' /'Hostile' on Corbyn's List such as Alison McGovern, John Woodcock, Mary Creagh, Hilary Benn.
Actually Jo Cox was was classed as 'Core Group Negative' and obviously was not a Corbyn backer so I am not surprised her husband has taken up the mantle so to speak on her behalf, indeed as others did yesterday during the debate.
I listened to the debate, when I read the Stop The War posted here I was confused, the debate was on protests not on more bombing, and that kink was of a rally held days ago . Seems demonstrating outside the Russian embassy isn't acceptable for some , and any old link can be posted to defend Corbyn
The link was yesterday.
'They object to Stop the War because we refuse to support military intervention, whether through bombing, troops on the ground, or militarised no fly zones, as this will only make the situation worse. We condemn all bombing, whether from Syria, Russia, the U.S. or the UK, since the victims of such actions are the ordinary civilians. The consequences of bombing and intervention have not only been devastation for the peoples concerned but the growth of terrorism and far greater instability.'
Yes, and referred to yet another rally -yawn- held at the weekend and has no connection with demonstrations , which Stop The War are always so eager to take part in, why not against Russia ?
If Johnson said Russia, the US and the UK, that would be different. To just single out Russia, when the US and UK have killed as many civilians is wrong.
The US and UK will not agree to independent scrutiny. Why not?
Another question in reply to a question !
The link was yesterday. The weekend was two to three days earlier. What's your problem? Are you so easily bored?
I most certaintly am not the one with a problem
I thought you said you marched against the war in Iraq, Annie.
What happened?
Statement first, Annie, then question.
What's wrong with that? Quite normal, I would have thought.
I had a blister Jen
Annie!
What happened since then?
In my defence Ana , it was a damn stupid question,
it healed thanks
Durhamjen.
You remind me of the words Labour MP Ben Bradshaw said to Emily Thornberry calling for a ceasefire.
Ben Bradshaw. Labour
" We had a ceasefire; it was brutally blown apart by Russian and Syrian air power. I still have not heard from my hon. Friend a clear and unequivocal condemnation of Russia’s and Assad’s action. I have not heard her call it out as it is—a war crime."
Seems to be a question why so many , notably those who follow Corbyn et al, find Russia and Assad to be so easily likened to the USA, UK. Why stop there let's not forget the Embassies of France, Denmark, Australia, Belgium, Canada etc.
Emily isn't going to condemn Russia, she doesn't want her name added to Corbyns hit list , she is a puppet unlike Benn
True.
Emily and Dianne would never have reached the positions they currently have if JC hadn't been Labour leader.
Both Ann Clywd and Boris J spoke well in the commons. Interesting that on the matter of the slaughter of civilians by Russian and Assad forces, JC and co take the same line as Mr Trump. I agree with STW that all bombing and killing of civilians is wrong but that doesn't stop it happening does it. I'd demonstrate outside the Russian embassy, as well as continue to pressure my MP for diplomatic solutions and more help for those fleeing death in Syria.
Seems Corbyn is choosey on who to criticise and who to defend, yes all war is wrong but why hold back on condeming Russia , they even blew up an aid convoy, call Hamas his friends, some pacifist
Have you thought about criticising the government annie ?
Johnson (amigo 3) I thought was pretty ineffectual. What on earth was the "go out and demonstrate and show Russia what you think of them" all about!!! Isn't that his job?
So you condemn Ann Clwyd too whitewave, it was Anne who questioned why no demonstrations for this war yet had been for previous wars, I assume you took no part in demonstrations against the Vietnam War . Since when has Stop The War only applied to wars if the UK are involved ?
