Trump. How could all those people vote for him?
Ochone ochone (Gaelic lamentation)

Those rockers were brave, weren't they, in those temperatures.
But like he said, everyone wants to leave some day, it's just they obviously can't get jobs anywhere else.

Elrel Sat 12-Nov-16 16:41:59

I started wearing a safety pin weeks ago, so did my friend who came here from Austria in the 1940s.

Jalima Sat 12-Nov-16 16:42:01

What's this safety pin for?
Oh, thanks Ana

Solidarity ladies
but why? If you disagree with someone why have solidarity with them, or you think their behaviour is not what you think fit then why have solidarity with them just because they are female?

As evidenced by the USA election - there was not much solidarity in some areas as female voters did not all flock to vote for Hillary.
I think her team were complacent about getting the female vote but she failed to connect with many women.

Jalima Sat 12-Nov-16 16:48:54

Safety pins are for loose knickers.
rosesarered well, actually that thought went through my mind, then I thought safety pins would be needed for loose knickers if Trump was around but thought that was too rude to post. (but have now posted it)
Never go out with a safety pin in your knickers in case you have an accident

I'm perfectly safe to talk to even without a safety pin.

Ana Sat 12-Nov-16 16:51:50

Remember when punks had them through their pierced noses and eyebrows? They were obviously ahead of their time...

I'll continue to conduct myself the way I always have done in my home town, and anywhere else I go.Huge immigrant population compared to most places, big university, very diverse. And that is showing the same courtesy ,kindness and respect to every one.Unlike the yob that cut me up on the road today and stuck 2 fingers up because I had the temerity to drive just below the speed limit !
Hopefully people will work out as a very small, generally smiley, middle aged woman I pose no threat and am 'safe' to talk to.Ask any of my family and the most risk I pose is to myself because if I saw someone dropping litter, abusing an animal or verbally or even physically abusing someone I'm likely to speak up or even intervene. It has been known!

rosesarered Sat 12-Nov-16 16:52:35

grin. I guess it makes a change from wearing safety pins through the ears or nose, as was the fashion in the Punk days.
Trump would not go anywhere near us old codgers. So our knickers ( and knockers) are perfectly safe.

Washerwoman Sat 12-Nov-16 16:55:03

Haha .your posts made me chuckle Jalima and Roses.smile

Jalima Sat 12-Nov-16 16:58:32

I am just hoping that DD does not decide to put a safety pin through her lip hmm to show her students from worldwide that she is safe to talk to.

thatbags Sat 12-Nov-16 17:07:52

Well, well, whatever next! I've always had a safety pin attached to my bag. It was a nappy pin for a few decades but recently it's even bigger. Its actual use is to prevent me losing my hat. Fortunately I'm safe to talk to as well and always have been so there will be no confusion. So relieved! ? LMAO

Jalima Sat 12-Nov-16 17:10:58

Could it be a kilt pin instead?

ps bags do you wear your bag on your head? confused or is it just handy for when you do wear a hat?

rosesarered Sat 12-Nov-16 17:13:05

You mean that you pin it to your HEAD bags ( by heck, you folk up in Scotland are tough!)

Ana Sat 12-Nov-16 17:20:39

Well at least we know it's not virtue signalling if the hardy Scotspeople are at it!

durhamjen Sat 12-Nov-16 17:38:52

This is going to be interesting. Do you think Trump will have to start paying taxes now?
Maybe that's why people voted for him, to make sure he obeys the law.

www.nytimes.com/2016/11/12/us/politics/how-federal-ethics-laws-will-apply-to-a-trump-presidency.html?rref=collection%2Fnewseventcollection%2FPresidential%20Election%202016

thatbags Sat 12-Nov-16 17:39:55

The pin's for when I take the hat off, which I frequently do, e.g. when going into a shop. I don't seem to have a very good body thermostat. Spend my life taking layers off and putting them back on as I get hot and cold. I've lost a few hats by not attaching them to my bag (there isn't always room inside; it depends on the hat) and last year I lost a favourite one.

I could use a carabina instead, I suppose....

Would wearing a carabina instead of a safety pin give out a confusing message about talk-to-ability?

I'm actually quite shocked at the safety pin message thing, I mean that people feel so afraid of their fellow human beings. Don't misunderstand that; I don't mean it in an unsympathetic way. I'm sorry that people do feel like that.

durhamjen Sat 12-Nov-16 17:40:53

'Mr. Trump faces potential conflicts on multiple fronts. He has income streams that could be affected by taxation policies he may try to get through Congress. His companies have hundreds of millions of dollars of debt from banks regulated by the federal government. In one case, Mr. Trump is a part owner of an office building in Manhattan that carries a $950 million loan from lenders that include the Bank of China.

A key source of his revenue is the licensing of the Trump name, both domestically and abroad, and the value of that brand could be helped, or harmed, by actions he takes or does not take.'

Ana Sat 12-Nov-16 17:49:22

I think it's quite divisive, and is a form of virtue signalling.

Probably at this time of year people would probably just think you'd lost your poppy (and that's not supposed to be a joke).

POGS Sat 12-Nov-16 18:20:33

So are the polite, ' free hugging ' , presumably Democrats , who are causing criminal damage and rioting being used by George Soros and the likes of MovedOn?

That would be the billionaire George Soros named in the wikileaks releases concerning Hilary Clinton and George Soros Clinton and MovedOn financial backer.

I am not going to put a link up to wikileaks releases concerning Soros/Clinton/Ukraine/Albania/funding but it makes intetesting reading and ignored by the British Media , probably because they are too hot to handle.

Is MovedOn a major source of the obvious orgainised protest campaign against Trump and if so what does it say about the thought the protests are simply 'the people' coming together to have their say, as some believe to be the case.

I fear things will get far worse over the coming days probably but the irony is it is coming from the left of politics , as I said before The Game Keepers have turned Poacher, that is of course if you have always believed the nasty side of politics always comes from those on the right.

This is just one of ' many links ' that could be put forward but anybody genuinely interested in 'The Dark Side' of American/Global politics might find it a good read.

Others may not.

Well done "Lego" !!!

Jalima Sat 12-Nov-16 20:28:26

I had to look up carabina and realise I have some in my knitting bag blush

No, stick with the pin bags

Jalima Sat 12-Nov-16 20:31:57

Well, I must be very unprincipled because I got DH to buy the DM just to get the 'free' Lego for the DGC. £4 worth of Lego for 60p? You can always chuck the paper in the bin if you wish.

I can't say I was influenced one way or the other by the content and DGD asked me today if there were any more packets of Lego this weekend.
But never mind hey.

Will the Guardian start giving free packets of Lego?

Ana Sat 12-Nov-16 20:36:01

Yes, that'll teach those darned DM readers...grin

whitewave Sat 12-Nov-16 20:51:23

Lego is the first to understand the hate and poison spewed. Others may follow.

Ana Sat 12-Nov-16 21:00:24

You do realise that the newspapers referred to will possibly temper their front-page message but little else?
