An oath on British Values?

Latest proposal is that all immigrants should be made to take an oath to abide by British values before even coming in to the country.
What would those values be? I doubt you could get much agreement between those of us born and bred here.
England, Scotland, Wales, NI? North, south, east, west?

Still it is only London, he is hardly speaking to his core constituency.

Youre a bit out of touch. LBC is nationwide on digital

And it seems the lovely Farage has, in his desperation to make more money, taken a job as a shock-jock on London radio.

I suppose you were hoping he'd be unemployed!

Are you also mocking Ed Balls for his 'desperation to make more money" by appearing on Strictly Come Dancing?hmm
Hypocrisy rules.

Nigel has been an occasional presenter on LBC for a long time and clearly pulls a large audience pro and anti without having to resort to insulting playground name calling like his alter ego James OBrien (although he too pulls 'em in)

You can download LBC app and listen on your phone, Nigel Farage show starts Monday 9th 7pm Mon to Thurs.

Mair Sat 07-Jan-17 15:56:59

Didnt know about that! Thanks for the heads up Firecracker!

Where so ever I may be
I can listen to LBC!tchgrin

Nigel Farage has been touting for all kinds of jobs in the last few weeks. Forgetting, maybe, that he has a job, as an MEP. However as the second most idle member (well the most idle member if you discount someone who is sick) then he's obviously looking for extra money on top of a salary most would consider fantastic along with expenses he is entitled to for secretarial support, office space etc.
He was recently lamenting his lack of money. He thinks he is poor apparently.

Ed on the other hand is out of a job, un-em-ployed and other than any domestic duties has no reason not to do a bit of work, here or there, of any kind that is offered.

Penstemmon Sat 07-Jan-17 19:26:04

Farage's poor attendance as MEP in th E parliament is surely not supporting British Values as he is sticking 2 fingers up at the notion of British representational democracy. He of course believes in a plebicite democracy.

Mair Sat 07-Jan-17 19:27:40

Good for Farage then that he's flexible and willing to do "all kinds of jobs"! He may still have a job but its not going to be too much longer as an MEP.

Why is Ed unmployed? Its not as if he'd struggle to find work if he wanted it!

POGS Sat 07-Jan-17 20:14:21

Farage on LBC,
Corbyn on Iran State TV

What are these politicians like hey, no principles.

Let me think now why is one classed as a git the other a god, hmm.

Nope, no idea.

rosesarered Sat 07-Jan-17 20:27:39

Really, on Iran State tv? Why is he, for heavens sake?

rosesarered Sat 07-Jan-17 20:28:36

He hardly ever agrees to be on tv in the UK.

POGS Sat 07-Jan-17 21:02:32

Not now roses!

I was making a point that Farage was hardly doing anything wrong.

rosesarered Sat 07-Jan-17 21:04:42

Neither are doing anything wrong.......grin just wondered .

whitewave Sat 07-Jan-17 21:14:41

I am surprised that Farage took the job as radio phone in host, as when he resigned as Leader of UKIP, he said that his chief joy was " not having to deal with low-grade people every day"

Oh dear Mr Farage, once again having to get down into the gutter to earn a crust? You have had to settle for 10th best I suppose as the Trump job failed to materialise. Still you have a divine stablemate in Katie Hopkins, who has caused her newspaper to apologise more than once for her vindictive lies.

Still one thing we can be thankful for is that it won't interfere with his MEP job. We can still be sure that part of our payments made to the EU are being paid for sod all. Perhaps someone will phone in and ask him how he has the bare faced cheek.

Ana Sat 07-Jan-17 21:22:51

Surely one more reason for the UK to leave the EU, whitewave? grin

You a Nigel fan Mair or is he much too liberal for your liking?

Penstemmon Sat 07-Jan-17 22:44:17

Why do you dislike immigrants and their decendents so much mair?

My father, my brothers and I have all made a positive contribution to GB/UK. We all have contributed via tax & NI. My dad was a civil service lawyer, one brother & I teachers the other brother a lawyer.

How have I and my family disadvantaged 'natives'?? Some of my best friends are natives wink

Jalima Sat 07-Jan-17 23:15:10

Some of the natives still run round half naked shock
as I posted on the other thread about Aldi customers going round topless.

Mair Sat 07-Jan-17 23:30:12

"Why do you dislike immigrants and their decendents so much mair?"

I dont but I dont need millions of them living here either. What is the benefit of that?

I dont believe unregulated large scale immigration is good for Britain, and I dont want to see the ethnic diversity and diverse cultures and languages of European civilisation homogenised, still less with the rest of the world.

Dont you think conservation is a positive force? If a butterfly or squirrel is worth conserving then so is a culture.

Mair Sat 07-Jan-17 23:32:13

"I posted on the other thread about Aldi customers going round topless."

Crikey, not in my local Aldi!
This sounds like another lets sneer at the working class urban myth.

durhamjen Sat 07-Jan-17 23:38:13

Without bees and butterflies, there wouldn't be enough food to feed all those natives.
Now there's a thought. Natural selection.

Mair Sat 07-Jan-17 23:41:22

Now there's a thought. Natural selection.

What are your 'thoughts' on that Durham?

durhamjen Sat 07-Jan-17 23:45:43

I am a member of FOE, who have stopped some pesticides being used that kill bees, and a member of Butterfly Conservation.
I help to record numbers of butterflies and moths.
Hope that answers your query.

Mair Sun 08-Jan-17 00:06:30

I didnt think you were focusing on butterflies when you referred to 'natural selection'. hmm

This idea that "elites" were in favour of staying in the EU was, I think, a cleverly calculated strategy and not a reality. It was guaranteed to get people's backs up.

I don't think there was a rigid profile for remainers or leavers, other than people in very deprived areas being much more likely to vote leave. When interviewed, many of these people cited immigration as the reason for their suffering and yet immigration had very little to do with major industries closing down.

Looking at politicians, there are some from very privileged and often aristocratic backgrounds, such as Jacob Rees-Mogg and Theresa Villiers, who were very vocal in their wish to leave the EU. Travelling through the Suffolk countryside where my Mum lives, I saw that most of the rich farmers exhibited leave posters along their land, as did the most expensive houses.

My own friends and acquaintances, from similar social and economic backgrounds, were about evenly spread between stayers and leavers and those that chose to vote stay, including myself, could in no way fit the description of "elite".

whitewave Sun 08-Jan-17 08:03:01

mair a tad extreme grin
