Anti-Trump Demonstration Today

Today, I participated in the Women's March to The American Embassy in London in protest against Trump's attitude to women and to his proposed plans.
There were thousands of woman( and some men, babies in slings and pushchairs, marching children, even dogs on leads), all using the only method left to us to express our solidarity. It was cold, the sun shone, drums beat and people chatted, shared case histories, laughed, sand, cheered to each helicopter flying overhead and marched until they could move no more.
The police were wonderful and it was peaceful all round, full of goodwill.
There were hundreds of pink pussycat hats, original handmade placards and slogans, even a huge vagina in cardboard. My favourite was a placard( in background of one of the photos attached) stating thus:
A woman needs Trump
Like a fish needs climate change.

My DH, who was with me, thinks that the march, especially one in a foreign country, is a feel good moment for the participants but otherwise useless. Trump is now president and such marches, DH thinks, will do nothing to change the course of his government.

I disagree.

What do Gransnetters think?

bluebell could be, as good a guess as any grin

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:12:37

Just me.. A normal working class woman.

Elegran Sat 21-Jan-17 21:13:26

"Seeing this" will show him - if he is the observant paragon you think he is - that well-adjusted women very like his wife and daughters have some very strong opinions about his methods. Anyone who puts a high value on what women think (not just on whether they are hot and grabbable) would take that on board during their next crucial years in office.

Don't think 'lucid' is an appropriate adjective in this context.
Foul-mouthed and objectionable.
I've better things to do so will go and chat to my DGD who has just finished a 12 hour shift in a care home.
Now she's a young woman I'd like to see living in a Trump-free world.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:15:44

No idea what you're talking about Elegran.

Elegran Sat 21-Jan-17 21:17:35

You are at liberty to say that my views are shite, as I am at liberty to say yours are - though I have better manners and am more likely to say that you are mistaken. That doesn't matter to me.

You are NOT at liberty to call me names. That DOES matter.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:20:02

How funny.. You are allowed to insinuate Im a troll yet I'm not allowed to say you spoke like a dick.. very weird and maybe quite condescending don't you think?

willsmadnan Sat 21-Jan-17 21:22:18

Oh dear God... I said I wouldn't feed the troll, but this is getting hilarious ! I missed the bit about the big boobs...why would anyone mention that confusedunless they're posting on a dating/ X rated site... even moreconfused. And now the douche reference. DGS used that expression till Grandma put a stop to it.. yet another example of ghastly American influence.
So... having gathered all the evidence I am of the opinion that stillaliveandkicking is a Trump groupie from across the pondshock. But with troll- like propensities.
Now off to help Barnaby with another mystery(Midsummer) Nightie night everyone!

Elegran Sat 21-Jan-17 21:26:23

I suppose I shall have to explain in words of one syllable for you. You said "I hate the fact that someone who has apologised and has daughters that are very well adjusted, happy and thriving, need to see this."

I assumed that "someone" meant Trump, and "see this" meant the march(es) and that the father of "well-adjusted, happy and thriving daughters" would have enough regard for the views of women (half the population) to also have the sense to take note of what those women think of him.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:27:51

blimey wills you've surpassed yourself and probably your bedtime. I take on board all of your good wishes and hope you sleep well.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:30:32

Things are changing Elegran whether you like it or not and Im very glad they are. I really don't care about what you think, it doesn't matter to me in the slightest.

Dyffryn Sat 21-Jan-17 21:30:39

Well said Elgran. Being polite is everything.

Dyffryn Sat 21-Jan-17 21:31:01

Obviously.

Jalima Sat 21-Jan-17 21:32:22

I think that I agree with your DH Rinouchka.

He has been elected and sworn in as POTUS - a different country - despite people knowing about his lewd past.

Did people protest like this in this country about JFK, Bill Clinton?

The USA decide whether we in the UK like it or not is irrelevant, we have no say.

Dyffryn Sat 21-Jan-17 21:32:49

Definitely a Troll from across the pond.

Dyffryn Sat 21-Jan-17 21:34:04

I repeat, you are not very polite are you stillaliveandkicking

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:34:08

London actually so hardly across the pond and stop with the troll stupidness.

Dyffryn Sat 21-Jan-17 21:38:16

Then can you please stop being rude, you have had one post deleted. Use polite language please.

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 21:39:12

I'm not sure that being polite is 'everything' Dyffyn, but calling another poster a troll certainly isn't polite.

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 21:40:28

In fact, it used to be against GN rules, but they don't seem to bother much these days.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:42:09

Not sure what you mean by polite language? I could say you're being unreasonably fussy about things. It is a forum after all and maybe people might use language that you would prefer they didn't, then maybe you could not read anymore and go on something more suited to your taste?

Elegran Sat 21-Jan-17 21:47:09

Or perhaps YOU could go on something more suited to your taste? There are lots of forums where everyone slags off everyone else, that is the norm. It kills discussion, of course, because it is such fun for the combatants being abrasive that the emphasis moves from talking about things and ideas to scoring points against each other.

Jalima Sat 21-Jan-17 21:47:25

I read the OP and posted before reading the rest of the thread
shock

My view does not mean that I am a supporter of Trump - merely that I think these protests are probably futile.
He knows he has been elected despite his attitude to women.
Let's hope his own wife and daughters can keep him in check.

The attacks on Elegran are uncalled for and nasty; it is possible to- disagree with people's views without calling them names

BlueBelle Sat 21-Jan-17 21:49:50

Funnily enough Saak ( wherever you come from) you come across as the perfect Trump supporter Rude arrogant and probably ignorant as to how to discuss anything that is not in agreement with your ideas

I doubt if any of us need to worry as I ll be very surprised if Trump is around for very long He ll have all sorts of activities to explain away ....that's if he's not bumped off when he rolls off putins bed no one with a decent bone in their body would vote for him

stillaliveandkicking Sat 21-Jan-17 21:51:06

Oh dear, here we go. It was one word, it wasn't an "attack" how dramatic is that.
I called her a dick and I'm sure she will get over it.

I like being on this forum so not looking to be outed by you thanks Elgran.

Other than that, Im good.
