This is NOT fake news, by the way...
I don't know enough about company transfers and accounts to understand all this, but I really hope that somebody with more knowledge than I have and/or contacts with the press/media follows this up.
I was intrigued by donations to UKIP by a company called Better for the Country, so did a little digging. In total, the company donated £1.95 million to Leave.EU and just under £100,000 to UKIP.
The company was set up in Gibraltar and is owned by no other than Arron Banks, who has already made substantial donations to UKIP.
Better for the Country was fined £50,000 by the Information Commissioner in May 2016 for sending over 500,000 unsolicited texts to people urging them to vote Leave. The numbers were obtained from third party marketing lists.
All very dodgy! I have no idea whether it's legal or within the rules of campaigning, but in the cause of transparency, people should know what's been going on.
It would appear that only ITV News and the Guardian reported the fine, although it's also on the official ICO website:
www.itv.com/news/2016-05-11/firm-fined-over-brexit-campaign-text-messages/
I don't understand why Better for the Country also paid £100,000 to UKIP.
What colour car do you have or did you used to drive?
Is it rude to not finish a book club choice that was selected by someone else?
