Well its been announced that Jeremy Corbyn is applying a three line whip to his MPs to make them support the triggering of article 50.
I admire Jeremy for this, it's an act of leadership, and it could save Labours bacon in the many Northern Brexit seats that they hold, so in that sense I am not entirely pleased because it will weaken UKIPs chances. It will also weaken Paul Nuttalls chances in Stoke.
What do the Bremain Labour supporters on GN feel about this?
sounds good to me.
Last link for you but I could provide many more 'surprises' and reasons why I voted to get us out of the EU. Not Europe, that is a continent which we are joined to and which I for one love to visit, one that we will still trade with when we come out and one that has variety, culture, lovely people. I am just talking about the dream of a United States of Europe plan which I disagree with because it makes all our countries poorer, we lose our individuality and our culture, indeed our identity so I am very happy we voted OUT.

Excellent posts Yorkshiregel. Very very interesting reading Re the legalities of us joining. But I'm afraid you would have more luck digging a hole in the North Sea than getting people to see that it was a massive con.
In fact I would go so far as to say that even if the leaders of the eu stood up and admitted it, these people still wouldn't believe it because if they did they would have to admit they were taken for fools.
No petra shame for that sort of post. It is all immaterial now as we are leaving. What is ahead is important.
Excellent post, Yorkshiregel I agree.
And of course what lies ahead is important, but it's also important to point out why Brexiters voted as they did.
Does that mean that the signing of subsequent treaties was meaningless Yorkshiregel?
If one is not a legal member of a group, a club, then signing future amendments and regulations would be pointless if one is not really a member in the first place.
Interesting.
But whitewave if we were never really in in the first place we should not have to go through the agony of leaving.
Should we get a refund of all our contributions?
definately ja
We would have to return all EU grants and subsidies. The sums would be interesting - the totals might even prove something or other.
Yes, that's a point Elegran. It could take years to work out...
Why did Brexiters vote as they did?
Imo the government of the day did know what they were doing but because they were desperate to join they turned a blind eye. It was a Conservative government that took us in and now it is a Conservative government that has taken us out. I do not include Cameron in that because he was imo the biggest conman of all. I think they want it all to go away so there will be no enquiry, it will all be shoved in a dark archive somewhere and forgotten about.
I voted Leave because I knew the British people were being conned again. I felt it was my duty because I knew and I did not want to be complicit in what Mr Heath and co did to get us in and what Mr Brown did behind closed doors. I also wanted my children and grandchildren, and yes their children too if they ever materialise to be FREE of the EU yoke and I wanted them to live in a modern forward thinking Britain, not one that was locked away in the dark ages or even wiped off the map altogether and made to jump in to the big glob of sameness that the EU want us all to become.
Ah ... so this is where the 'let's re-run the referendum' thread went
I am not sure if people know this so I will mention it here anyway. Did you know that when you apply for 'EU money' you have to be able to match the amount from sources of your own. ie if you apply for £1 million from the EU to build a new building or to fund 'X' for a year you have to raise the same amount that you ask for yourself. Otherwise you will not be given the money.
When UK sends money to the EU, in our contributions, the EU will send a % of it back. They will also tell UK what it is allowed to spend that money on. They cannot use it for something else. The other % is used by the EU for any projects they like. So when the benevolent EU give us money they are giving us back (only some of) the money that we have paid in. So it means we are spending OUR OWN money.
When The Common Market was launched it had 6 members. Now it has 28! So our contributions have gone up and up.

Yes Yorkshire another good reason for leaving the EU.
Sorry, Yorshiregel, do you take us for idiots? Of course we know that. Some of us don't see anything wrong with it.
Do you also know that when Yorkshire and Durham collect taxes, they are sent to the government and they only give us a percentage back? So we are spending our own money. The rest of it is spent in London and the South East.
Just thought I'd remind you in case you had forgotten.
Yorkshiregel, you couldn't have put it better! These are exactly the reasons I voted to leave. Perhaps others will now stop constantly asking why people voted Brexit! You have been told, clearly and concisely!!
It's odd that nobody condemns the Hungarian Prime Minister for his refugee policy - razor wire fences are hardly humane!! Other countries too have pretty unpleasant policies, Austria introducing a dress code, France already has one! Where the hell are these marchers?!!!!
When the United States started off, there were only 13 of them. Now there are 50.
The government collects taxes from each state and only sends back what it wants, not all of it.
Trump is now deciding on a case by case basis whether to give federal money to states that say anything against him. At least there are rules in the EU about what can be paid for; it's not on the whim of one man who thinks the union is his own business.
'And of course what lies ahead is important, but it's also important to point out why Brexiters voted as they did.'
That's why I asked, niggly.
After listening to how much less the north gets than the south in investment I think we are even more likely to ask to leave the UK and join up with an independent Scotland. In an article in the New Statesman a journalist doing some in depth interviewing reported that many of the people in the north who he had spoken to said that one of the reasons they voted to 'leave' was to give London a bloody nose. It would be interesting to see a proper survey done to find out what were the most important reasons for how those, both in and out voted.
I wonder if yougov have done one, GracesGran.
I think London should be independent of the Uk. Most of the wealth of the UK is generated in London. It is big enough and wealthy enough to be a city state. This makes perfect sense if we follow the Brexit argument.
Yorkshiregel well said totally agree with you.
Nigglynellie it doesn't suit their agenda to criticize any of the EU countries.

And why do you think the rest of us should be willing to surrender our capital city?
London belongs to all of us not just those who happen to live there, many relative newcomers.
Its an absolutely bonkers idea, and simply a backdoor method of destroying borders.
