Open Britain - Hard Brexit

The realities of what a hard Brexit could mean are beginning to collide with the breezy rhetoric of Leave campaigners. Already – before negotiations have even begun – totemic promises are being broken.

We were told there would be £350 million more a week for the NHS, but Leave campaigners are desperate to run away from this promise, and borrowing estimates have risen by £58bn thanks to Brexit.
We were told economic warnings were “scaremongering”, but prices have risen as the pound has fallen and car companies are speculating about shifting investment abroad.

We were told the EU would bend over backwards to give us the deal we want, but Ministers are now talking up the prospect of leaving with no deal at all.
And we were told our Union would be stronger, but today we see the SNP once again fostering grievance to threaten the break up of the UK.

We can’t let those who led the country down this road escape from the broken promises they made. Please share our graphic on Twitter and Facebook to hold them to account.

Thank you,

The above was pasted from an Email received a hour or so ago - you can Google "Open Britain" if you feel strongly enough. I genuinely believe that Brexit could well unravel over the coming months as the truth strikes home. I will leave you to draw your own conclusions.

And I still have screenshots of your PM to me dd where you told me you were pm ing it as putting it on public view would get you into trouble with GN so you felt free to insult me privately..........KAPOW!

Had enough yet?

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 19:04:15

Perhaps we could get back to the subject in hand.

whitewave Wed 29-Mar-17 19:04:46

That's because we know (well Brexiters only seem to have just realised) that the EU has the upper hand when negotiating trade.

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 19:05:21

May discussing using EU citizens in Uk as bargaining chips at the moment with Andrew Neil.

Brexiters are now also coming to realise that the economy beats immigration and all the other take back control lies. The economy was the only thing mentioned in May's speech.

We know the country has become divided over Brexit, but you would imagine that people of our age could talk about it without being rude/dismissive to anyone else who doesn't hold their own views.
Today has been the nastiest of all on here, perhaps because it has sunk in that there won't be a last minute reprieve, and we really are leaving the EU.
Maybe things will calm down in a week or so.
#won'tholdmybreaththough.

I remember you mentioning that 'pm' roses! Sounded quite unpleasant!

whitewave Wed 29-Mar-17 19:10:32

Glad to hear that we will do the right thing and pay what we are obliged to pay.

whitewave Wed 29-Mar-17 19:11:08

nn I am awarding you the wooden spoon of the day

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 19:12:31

The economy and security, whitewave.

Jalima Wed 29-Mar-17 19:13:35

Jalima You're a bit one-sided with your criticism
In fact I don't think I am dd.

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 19:14:26

So your comment of KAPOW! Doesn't deserve the wooden spoon ww grin

magpie123 Wed 29-Mar-17 19:17:02

The vote to leave the EU was a democratic vote and the UK voted to leave. Did those who voted to remain really think the result would be overturned just because they wanted it to.?

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 19:31:14

By the way, did you notice that May wants a democratic liberal Britain?
Is she in the wrong party?

mostlyharmless Wed 29-Mar-17 20:02:46

Tim Fallen says we can withdraw Article 50 at any time. So might Theresa May's "no deal is better than a bad deal" mean if there's no deal we can decide to revoke Article 50 and stay in the EU? It seems unlikely with the government's gung ho attitude but maybe... a year or so down the line?

Jalima Wed 29-Mar-17 20:06:56

Listen very carefully - I shall say this only once:

I thought Jeremy Corbyn was quite reasonable and well worth listening to on the programme with Andrew Neil

but of course he's not in charge is he
hmm

varian Wed 29-Mar-17 20:11:01

Tim Farron is absolutely right. The British people should have a say when the terms are known.

whitewave Wed 29-Mar-17 20:13:47

Article 50 is only a letter of intent we can at any time in the two years say "nope changed our minds"

mostlyharmless Wed 29-Mar-17 20:22:28

Sorry - Tim Farron. Yes Corbyn is talking sense and Keir Starmer too. Hope Labour will get a grip of the issues now. We all need an effective opposition to hold the government to account in this Brexit process.

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 21:55:58

I will try and see the Corbyn and Neil discussion Jalima of course he was really lukewarm about staying in the EU anyway, but no doubt his vision of Britain will be different to T May.

rosesarered Wed 29-Mar-17 21:56:56

You are very hopeful there ww

durhamjen Wed 29-Mar-17 22:01:50

No, just honest.
