May is to make an important announcement at 11.15

GracesGranMK2 Tue 18-Apr-17 14:29:59

Could this be just what Labour needed?

sunseeker Tue 18-Apr-17 14:33:58

I have no particular political axe to grind but can I ask - why, if a politician changes their mind they are berated for doing a u turn but if they don't change their minds they are accused of being stubborn and not listening to the electorate.

George Bernard Shaw said "Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything"

soop Tue 18-Apr-17 14:41:04

Buggerations galore!

varian Tue 18-Apr-17 14:44:17

sunseeker I wonder why its OK for TM to change her mind but the British people are not to be allowed to decide, after the brexit terms are known, they would rather stay in the EU.

sunseeker Tue 18-Apr-17 14:49:35

Who knows perhaps TM will put it to a referendum - or should it be left to MPs to decide? I don't know, I have no answers - just a lot of questions.

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 14:50:48

Grannypiper, Annie knows why I told her to shut up, and so does anyone else who has been on here since Corbyn was elected as leader of the labour party.
She is supposed to be a Labour supporter. In fact she tells us she's voted Labour all her voting life.
Time for her to back the party.

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 14:51:59

Good thought, varian.
If we are not to be allowed at Brexit, we should take our chance now.

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 15:00:01

Gracesgran, someone agrees with you - it's not a general election, it's a coup.

grannypiper Tue 18-Apr-17 15:00:32

DJ no matter who Annie votes for or supports as leader she does not deserve to be told to "shut up". Manners maketh the woman !

trisher Tue 18-Apr-17 15:05:53

grannypiper that statement applies to both parties perhaps you don't realise there is a long history of people Annie takes against being called various names she regards as insults, including "trots",and "lefties".

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 15:07:36

David Davis has said that May hasn't broken a promise.
So he wants to keep his job, then.

Ana Tue 18-Apr-17 15:07:49

I thought Annie herself was a 'leftie' confused

trisher Tue 18-Apr-17 15:13:59

Ana there are "lefties' and "lefties", apparently dj and I are practically communist (and I always thought I was a middle class with leftie leanings, but according to Annie I am practically horizontal) hmm

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 15:16:25

There are lefties who are egged on by the right wingers and then there are normal lefties.

Beammeupscottie Tue 18-Apr-17 15:16:45

I do not believe in blind loyalty to any political "tribe".
I also think it is not doing Labour any good to go on as they are. They need a cleansing process and a GE could be that (rumour has it that Labour Parliamentarians having been begging for one).

Ana Tue 18-Apr-17 15:17:16

Well, all those of us who are even a smidgeon to the right of centre are 'far-right' and have Nazi-like leanings according to some on here!

Welshwife Tue 18-Apr-17 15:18:17

shock grin

trisher Tue 18-Apr-17 15:19:55

Does anyone really think that this was Theresa's decision (taken apparently on a walking holiday in Wales) or did she just come back to be told by the party big-wigs, who after all fixed her leadership election, that she was to have one?

Welshwife Tue 18-Apr-17 15:20:21

For the first time I am as yet unsure who I shall vote for on 8June. I shall need to really look at what they are saying and what they are supporting.

Abonet Tue 18-Apr-17 15:29:27

Going by the definitions of coup, it is hardly that.

GG. Which part of Labour?

Anniebach Tue 18-Apr-17 15:44:35

Trisher, do tell, who have I ever told anyone to shut up? I have not, it would be ill mannered , arrogant and realy in very bad taste .
Regards you being middle class , your knowledge of the trots and militants in the Labour Party is lacking, you support a leader who is very middle class and a strong supporter of militants and trots, such a strong supporter he worked hard to get expelled militants back into the party whilst grass roots members slogged away for yesrs trying to convinced voters the party was not militant or trots dominated ,

whitewave Tue 18-Apr-17 16:03:41

The country is not coming together, and Westminster merely reflects what is happening in the country.

They are hoping to shut debate down.

daphnedill Tue 18-Apr-17 16:04:45

Paul Lewis from Radio 4's "Money Box" has just pointed out:

"Once this parliament ends all promises for 'this Parliament' will fall. That includes triple lock on state pension and no tax or VAT rises."

Something to think about!

daphnedill Tue 18-Apr-17 16:10:21

The time has come - Larry for Prime Minister.

Deedaa Tue 18-Apr-17 16:21:56

Is there any chance that Jeremy Hunt will lose his seat? I could even live with Brexit then!
