Statement of intent not the manifesto

1. Reverse the cut in corporation tax saving £64bn over the parliamentary cycle
2£10 minimum wage for all over 18s
3. 17% rise in unpaid farmers allowance (exrea £500 pa) - paid by reversing the Inheritance Tax cut.
4. Renationalise railways as the franchises lapse
5. Stop NHS private contracts. Phase out existing private contracts thus saving 3.5bn - 5bn at present going as profit to the private health companies
6. Build 200k homes a year. Half from the private sector and half council homes by giving LAs the power to borrow against assets. This should ensure that 12bn housing benefit bill at present going into private landlords pockets should gradually fall.
7. 4 new public holidays
8. End zero- hours jobs by guaranteeing a contract for all workers on regular hours.
9 Ban any company from tendering for government contracts if they are based in an off shore tax haven and pay their CEO more tha £350k pa
10 stop the opening of new free schools and grammars
11 Stop sweetheart deLs between HMRC and bug corps. All large companies should publish their tax returns
12 Eradicate gender pay gap
13 cut business rates by £1.5bn
14 End the practice by large corps, of taking longer than the accepted 28 days to pay SMEs

The 'image from Rochester' was quite obviously posted to show what Thornberry thought of the inhabitants of that particular house ( and maybe of Rochester) you just can't get away with that if you are a politician.

Eloethan Sat 06-May-17 08:36:30

Those that made the accusations of snobbery had a vested interest in discrediting the left. If it had been posted by a right wing newspaper, for instance, with the innocuous comment "Image from Rochester", it would have aroused no comment whatsoever.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 08:39:39

How many houses in Rochester ? Why choose a house draped in the flags of St.George which whilst being the English flag has been used by and reminds many of the BNP and football fan brawls . So again why did she choose that one house?

GracesGranMK2 Sat 06-May-17 08:45:05

Why not AB, it was a house with English flags on it so why not that photo? ET said nothing about the photo other than that is was from Rochester.

What are you saying about it and your view of a house with the flag of St George on it in your attempt to get May elected? That can be the only reason for going on, and on, and on about this photo. The right are using it to put down someone on the left and you are now on that side, obviously. You will get your wish. May will get a landslide.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 08:49:57

I believe the comment related to the amount of support for UKIP in the area, which had surprised her. It was not a derogatory comment about UKIP supporters themselves - that was the spin the media (especially the Sun) put on it.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 08:54:14

No, it wasn't "quite obviously" posted to show what ET thought. That is your interpretation, no doubt influenced by the media spin. I'm not a mind reader and neither are you.

I agree with Eloethan and Gracesgran.

To get back to the elections. What a snub for Andy, appointed mayor, great celebrations and the party leader shows up as they do.

But this leader didn't tell the newly elected mayor he was to visit but did mail a momentum group to inform them, it certainly was a good move for the cameras, a crowd of supporters yelling Jeremy and Jeremy beaming. But no mayor who has campaigned daily for so long .

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 09:00:49

Has Andy complained?

GracesGranMK2 Sat 06-May-17 09:01:40

More backing the right and May AB?

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 09:44:36

Yes, indeed, anniebach, it was very strange!

I found no mention of May in anniebach's post confused
Just a mention that the victory was celebrated without the victor

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 09:47:19

Andy was having a meal with some close supporters in a Manchester restaurant. There are plenty of photos of him having a great time. I don't suppose he was bothered. He probably would have found it embarrassing to turn up anyway.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 09:48:15

Lucy Powell wasn't invited either and the celebration took place in her constituency.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 09:50:38

Yet Jalima, the winner in Liverpool - a momentum member and close friend of the leader was filmed almost hand in hand with the leader .

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 09:54:17

Daphne, it doesn't matter if Andy was bothered or not, it was the fact he was not informed of the visit of the great one.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 09:56:56

Yes, anniebach - as daphnedill says Andy might have found Corbyn's support embarrassing

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 09:59:18

Although it was discourteous but could have been more of an embarrassment for JC

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 10:03:06

Perhaps Lucy Powell was washing her hair Jalima, or they couldn't find her mobile number .

Daphne, what do you mean - not invited? A newly elected mayor and a constituency MP should be invited to meet the mighty one ?

GracesGranMK2 Sat 06-May-17 10:07:15

Are you actually going to vote for May Annie?

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 10:09:43

They should both have been given the chance to turn down the invitation.
RSVP is the usual method

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 11:06:47

All the canvassing I have done over many years I stick to one rule, ask a voter if they would consider voting for X but never ask a voter - who are you voting for ? So not done

Beammeupscottie Sat 06-May-17 11:10:32

Labour's spin doctor is now talking about damage limitation to try to keep as many Lab. in power. I have know this to happen before, as anyone else?

Beammeupscottie Sat 06-May-17 11:12:33

Sorry. never known.

People are trying to say policy should come before personality. it never does!

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 11:16:36

But Corbyn had a hit list of MP's he wanted to get rid of , his wishes may come true, he will still be leader and that is what is important to him.

Beammeupscottie Sat 06-May-17 11:19:54

So Corbyn will lead his Red Brigade? That will really go down well with middle-england!
