Anyone got any information we can put onto this thread please?

Ginny42 Tue 02-May-17 08:03:48

It says proposed legislation is being debated in the House of Lords on 18 October, then it will pass to the Commons to be put into law. I can't find a date on the website. It does mean 2017?

GracesGranMK2 Tue 02-May-17 08:06:52

The article is dated 3 October 2016 Ginny. I thought it showed the direction of travel the Conservatives are intending to take.

Ginny42 Tue 02-May-17 08:07:02

Ah yes, it says October 3rd 2016 in very faint letters at the top. I'll see what I can find about it.

Ginny42 Tue 02-May-17 08:18:26

Well it seems there was a U-turn, but there is freedom for LA's to outsource to charities, whatever that means. Thank goodness that this stupid and dangerous idea has been abandoned. It is bad enough that prisons and other institutions are being sold off to enterprises like 4GS and Serco.

The Children and Social Work Bill was passed last week.

"So you are saying that because May wants to keep everything secret, the other parties to the agreement should not be believed?

Rather childish."

Thank you for your another kind comment.

---

No I am not saying that because Theresa May, may or may not want to keep everything secret, the other party may not be believed. I would believe it if the 'other party ' had said it openly themselves so that the accused could agree or rebuke their words/comments. I prefer to deal in factual evidence. Nobody can defend their position when people jump on the bandwagon without wanting factual evidence!

You and others on the other hand believe in listening to , reading the article by one German journalist who will not divulge his source.

As for ' formal negotiations ' being kept secret then I would have thought that would be good business practice and quite normal.

Brexit is looking as though it is not going to be along the lines of a 'formal negotiation' as widely understood as it would appear it is going to be a war on spin , personal attacks and leaks. I hope Michel Barnier shows if and when 'formal negotiations' start he will show more maturity than Juncker , I think he could well do so , I hope he will do so.

trisher Tue 02-May-17 11:51:06

Except this isn't "business" POGS it's government and all government should be open and up for pubic scrutiny. That's why we have a Freedom of Information Act.

daphnedill Tue 02-May-17 11:57:29

His source was one of Juncker's aids.

daphnedill Tue 02-May-17 11:58:02

Amber Rudd has said it could be true.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 02-May-17 11:58:53

Thanks for following it up Ginny. Interesting that they somewhat backed down but I do think it displays a desired direction of progress.

daphnedill Tue 02-May-17 12:03:36

Michel Barnier was at the dinner in Downing Street. The EU has made it quite clear that it will be open and transparent about formal negotiations and publishes minutes on the EU website.

Leavers were objecting to meetings of élites, so I don't see a problem.

It's not in Juncker's power to guarantee anything anyway. Everything needs to be approved by 27 member states.

Never mind! This was all part of Project Fear! The public was told.

We have the freedom of information act thanks to Blair

trisher Tue 02-May-17 12:48:33

It was in the Labour Party manifesto, but Blair now regrets it
By contrast, the former prime minister (Tony Blair) responsible for passing the Act regards it as "One of the biggest mistakes of his career". He says that "For political leaders, it's like saying to someone who is hitting you over the head with a stick, 'Hey, try this instead', and handing them a mallet. The information is neither sought because the journalist is curious to know, nor given to bestow knowledge on 'the people'. It's used as a weapon.

Anniebach Tue 02-May-17 12:55:50

So you don't approve of it Trisher? you seemed to in your previous reply

AsarahG Tue 02-May-17 13:14:24

We get all our information from the media and it depends which media suits your mind set, which set of media you believe. Everyone says the Conservatives are this and will do this, and Labour are this and will do this. We all know how we want it to be, but none of us can see into the future and none of us know the truth about poverty or riches in this country as all our information is biased. Just go with your gut instincts, but do not keep saying one side is right and the other is wrong, because we really do not know.

varian Tue 02-May-17 16:20:20

It does not just depend on which media suits you, but which media are allowed access. It looks as though TM has been taking lessons on media control from her friend Trump.

I didn't say I didn't like it Annie I said Tony Blair doesn't.

durhamjen Tue 02-May-17 22:40:18

Even Laura Kuennsberg seemed to be attacking May on the news in Cornwall, varian.

About time, too.

Evidence of more Tory policies not working.

I'd much rather you didn't vote to continue this.

More Tory electoral fraud, this time going back to 2010 election.

Anyone have an account with HSBC?

GracesGranMK2 Wed 03-May-17 10:08:18

I see the Tories are picking up tips from the Trump Electoral Handbook. When you dare not say what you are going to do, deflect and preferably deflect by lying about you opponent. How interesting that the Cons have time to prepare papers about what they believe is the LPs manifesto and cost it but can't say more the Strange & Simple chime about themselves.

No, I took my wad out years ago when their shady dealings with money launderers were exposed.

Not refuted at HSBC's AGM.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 03-May-17 22:14:39

Just seen that with the changes the government had made so that you could earn up to £1000 and not have to complete a tax return has been axed.

Now you WILL be taxed on selling crafts online and renting out a room.

durhamjen Wed 03-May-17 23:24:23

What a nice way to get back at Osborne for what he's writing in the Evening Standard.
He was trying to simplify things by the look of it.
I read an article about the fact that HMRC and the government will have to rewrite the tax laws, because the computers can't cope with all the changes since Cameron and pals took over. If the Tories get back in there will be another 100+ pages in the finance act.
There were 460 pages when they came in. Now there are 669, and soon there will be 776, if May has her way.
Senseless and stupid.
