Anyone got any information we can put onto this thread please?

MaizieD Mon 01-May-17 18:36:14

Canvassers never come to my door. I live in the same safe Labour seat as dj (and no, we've never met).

But with a new Labour candidate and emboldened tories I wonder if this GE might be different... I'd like them all to come and have a chat (except UKIP; I just couldn't face UKIP)

Chewbacca Mon 01-May-17 18:40:52

Depends who comes aknockin' Jalima! So far, only Greens and Lib have been around my area and I've kept both of them at the doorstep to talk to. If anyone called and said anything that really resonated with me, and I wanted to discuss further, I'd invite them in. Not happened so far though.

harrigran Mon 01-May-17 18:43:22

I tell them what they want to hear, "yes of course I will vote for you" close the door and say "in your dreams". Don't be fooled dj the public are just trying to get rid of you.

JessM Mon 01-May-17 18:45:21

If they are from the opposition, talk to them as long as possible smile

nigglynellie Mon 01-May-17 19:00:00

Just agree with all of them, then they'll soon go away!!! Let's face it what you're told on he doorstep will bear little resemblance as to what will actually happen whichever party gets in!

Jen you csnnot have canvassed , every constituency has Tories , you need to get out of your comfort zone . I have cavassed in Shropshire,Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Montgomeryshire, Breconshire, Radnorshire, Pembrokeshire , Carmarthenshire , Glamorganshire, Monmouthshire , good grief I even met Tories in strong South Wales constituencies .

Jalima , all of those but the inviting in is definitely the rarest , door slammed in face , ignoring the knock, some advice to would be canvassers, try to avoid tv soap times ,now there are so many this is difficult .

The worse time was the first half of the wilderness years , that was grim,

No reasons to vote conservative, sorry, but here's are some excellent reasons NOT to from i.

Ginny daphnedil.

" An account of the meeting was published by the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, which cited senior EU sources."
--

"Theresa May has dismissed as "Brussels gossip" an account of a dinner with EC President Jean-Claude Juncker, published in a German newspaper.

The pair reportedly clashed over Mrs May's desire to make Brexit "a success" and whether the issue of protecting the rights of expat UK and EU nationals could be agreed as early as June."

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39770328

The article in the German Paper was not based on 'factual evidence', some people don't require factual evidence it appears. Only one German Newspaper reported this unproven material and other media outlets do what they do best 'cover' other media outlets gossip .

It could a true analysis, it could be a load of old rubbish. One thing for sure those who have a dislike of Theresa May , The Tories will thrive on anything reported against her. That is fine but only if you can prove the facts.

This has been widely discussed topic all through today on t.v and to be honest even after listening to the German journalist who wrote the article he could only repeat his information was from reliable sources.

On another thread a poster gives the impression it was at Junckers behest but if that is true then the majority view of those debating it on t.v today thought 'if that was the case' then it shows more about Junckers way of doing politics and how the negotiations could shape up.

Naturally there are those who merrily jump on the bandwagon of the German Article to give them the opportunity to use it against Theresa May.

I've never slammed the door on anyone; had a moan at the Labour canvassers for the local elections but what we moaned about will not get fixed whoever gets in. We didn't see anyone else (3 days to go). We know many of them anyway, of all parties and the independents.
No-one yet for the GE.

durhamjen Mon 01-May-17 20:39:31

I canvassed in Peterborough in the 70s, Hampshire in the 80s, Hull in the 90s. Didn't in York because by then I'd left the party because of the sainted Tony, who wants to make a comeback.

Never had anyone be rude to me, not even in Hampshire.
You don't go knocking on every door in the constituency, Jalima.
Even May should have realised that. She didn't have the doors slammed in her face; nobody opened the door to her!

durhamjen Mon 01-May-17 20:41:34

How can you prove the facts, POGS, if May wants to keep everything secret - including her visits to Scotland when electioneering?

Jalima1108 Mon 01-May-17 20:45:12

You don't go knocking on every door in the constituency, Jalima.
Really?

Never had anyone be rude to me, not even in Hampshire
Are Hampshire people known to be more rude than the average then?

POGS Mon 01-May-17 20:46:26

durhamjen

You can't that's the point I am making!

You and others are just happy to believe in one German journalist who cannot name his source.

Unless of course it was Junker himself as you said on the other thread.

POGS Mon 01-May-17 20:48:13

Oh dear before you tell me ' as well as another poster today' how to spell Juncker I do know but my tablet doesn't.

durhamjen Mon 01-May-17 20:58:50

So you are saying that because May wants to keep everything secret, the other parties to the agreement should not be believed?
Rather childish.

durhamjen Mon 01-May-17 21:00:09

No, Jalima, but they are known to be Tory, particularly round Winchester. Or they were then.

Jalima1108 Mon 01-May-17 23:05:52

I've only been to Portsmouth
And Southsea

Lynnieg Mon 01-May-17 23:11:47

We are extremely polite in Hampshire. Even to know-it-alls smile

Jalima1108 Mon 01-May-17 23:15:21

I only know a few people from Hampshire Lynnieg and I must say the ones I know are all very nice smile
I have no idea who they vote for as it has never come up in conversation.

Lynnieg Mon 01-May-17 23:18:26

No, we just seem to get on with our lives and accept that people have differing views.

Ginny42 Mon 01-May-17 23:26:22

I do live off the beaten track, but Jehovah's witnesses knocked yesterday - no one from a political party has found their way here - EVER.

durhamjen Mon 01-May-17 23:48:11

That's the same everywhere. Most people just get on with their lives and do not interest themselves in politics.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 02-May-17 07:44:27

The Tories just dropped a privatisation bombshell, while the media harps on about Labour

Ginny42 Tue 02-May-17 07:56:37

Thanks for the link Gracesgran. If this plan goes through, the care and wellbeing of thousands of vulnerable children will be handed over to private companies. Privatising the care of vulnerable children so presumably the government can wipe their hands of their responsibilities. A scandal of the highest proportions!

Bear this plan in mind when putting the cross on the voting paper. The Tories with the most right wing cabinet for decades seem to care so little for the wellbeing of children because theirs are very well provided for so it won't affect their families.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 02-May-17 07:57:47

It is not a current article Ginny but worth revisiting I thought.
