Why you shouldn't vote Conservative.

theconversation.com/why-civil-and-political-rights-have-been-easier-to-secure-than-social-and-economic-ones-77027

The rights we will lose.

Anya Thu 04-May-17 10:09:37

DJ say it in your own words

The education system is collapsing.

The NHS too.

The National Debt is higher than it has ever been.

Theresa May is not interested in anything except Brexit.

Anya Thu 04-May-17 10:13:05

Or if you want to know how al this will affect you....

Pensions will not be protected.

You will not be able to rely on your local NHS Trust when, as an ageing person, you need it most.

Your grandchildren's education will suffer.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 17:46:56

I've put all that on before, Anya, on loads of threads.

The link is about the human rights we will lose.
Brexit will get rid of the Human Rights Act, and they will not be replaced by any better or equal rights if the Tories get a bigger majority.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 17:52:14

And anyway, www.theconversation.com is a brilliant website, with so many links on it's worth putting on. You never know, it might persuade some waverers.
Although the people on the site are experts, and we know what some people think of those.
I think May has got hold of some sort of neuralink, brainwashing everyone.

You can't say that I haven't put into my own words what I think about what the Tories have done to schools, the NHS and benefits.

Research seems to confirm that people just focus on 2-3 issues, and mainly those that affect them, or their family, directly.

Sometimes introducing additional issues can dilute the message DJ

Despite all my doubts, and they are legion (!) and the fact that Labour is gozing to lose sears, I have decided I must lodge a protest vote against this far-right government. Hence the poster in my window.

Ana Thu 04-May-17 18:23:09

Hmm...'gozing to lose sears' has me flummoxed!

Ana Thu 04-May-17 18:25:28

As you were - going to lose seats, mental abberation.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-May-17 18:35:53

How can anyone trust T May? There is nothing she will not go back on to keep herself and her party in power. How many times did she say that there would be no early election but when it suited her and her party she called one. She told Scotland they could not have a referendum because "politics is not a game" and yet she is gaming this election and our relationship with our closest trading partners. She claimed she needed and election because parliament was obstructing Brexit but that was a lie. The HoC voted with a large majority to trigger Article 50 - that was all she needed. She was a remain campaigner and then turned her coat and became a hard-core Brexiteer for her own political advantage. She broke the Tories commitment not to raise NI and then U turned on something she had decided was needed because she could not get this past her own party. She says she is the one to give us strong and stable leadership but these are empty words. She is not strong enough to debate against other leaders or even talk to the general public.

How much more does she have to do until people realise you cannot trust her; you cannot trust her on Pensions, you cannot trust her on Tax, you cannot trust her on Education, you cannot trust her on the NHS and you cannot trust her on Brexit.

Reasons not to vote Tory.

durhamjen Fri 05-May-17 09:07:43

Ukip say you should vote Conservative. It really worked for them in the local elections.

rosesarered Fri 05-May-17 14:16:47

UKIP are finished, now that we are leaving the EU and Farage has gone ( UKIP was always really a one man party) there is no reason for anyone at all to vote for them.
The Conservatives have done so well in the local elections, the public are voting for them over any other Party, if this translates to the GE ( it may not) then it would be a landslide victory.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 05-May-17 17:33:05

I have complained on occasion about the bias of the Beeb and the useless aggression of some of their journalists. I have to congratulate Huw Edwards for his presentation, good manners and even-handedness on the BBC News channel today. I only saw bits but he was unfailingly just what anyone could want to see.

Myth busting
"Conservatives are better at dealing with the economy"

Look at the economic recessions since WWII -

1956 Tory Government
Recession due to uncompetitive motor industry.
Inflationary pressures caused by credit squeeze in turn caused by high bank rate.

1961 Tory Government
Recession due to time lag from recession in USA.

1970's Tory Government and Labour Government
Recession due to,oil crises
Runaway inflation and decline of British industries

1980 Tory Government - recession due directly to government policy.
Recession due to DEFLATIONARY THATCHERITE POLICIES. SPENDING CUTS and MONETARISM.
Company earnings fell by 35%.

1990s Tory Government -, recession due directly to government policy
Recession due to LAWSON BOOM -INFLATION CAUSED BY HIGH BANK RATE AS A RESULT OF ERM SHAMBLES.

2008 Labour Government
Recession due to sub prime mortgaging crises.

So of the 6 recessions since the 1950s the Tories were in government for 5 of them and directly responsible for 2

The Labour were in Government for 2 and not responsible for a single one.

From this evidence it is clear that the Tories are NOT better at handling the economy.

durhamjen Fri 05-May-17 18:14:31

Welcome back, whitewave. I hope you enjoyed your holiday.

Tories never have been good at handling the economy. It's another of those sayings that get subliminally into people's brains.

Myth Busting

"Tories make Briton work"

Look at unemployment since 1970s

1970s during Labour Government - unemployment at 3%

1980s during Tory Government - unemployment at 12%

1990s during Tory Government - unemployment at 10.5%

2000s during Labour Government - unemployment at 7%

whitewave Fri 05-May-17 18:20:12

Myth Busting

"Education is safer under Tories"

Pre 1970s Tory government 4% of GDP

1975 -Labour Government 6.5% of GDP

1980s - Tory Government 4.25% of GDP

1990s Tory Government 5.07%

1998 End of Tory Government 4.3%

2010 End of Labour government 6.07% of GDP

Education is safer in Labours hands

Ana Fri 05-May-17 18:21:52

Blimey, that was a quick holiday! confused

Myth Buster

"Britain - a nation of home owners"

2010 - 2016 Tory Government
