A Labour Government.

I am seriously getting worried, that that joke Corbyn might end up running he country, which will within months, put a new social policy in place to be paid for by the ones that work, and on their knees knees already, borrowing money, left right and centre, so that llike every labour government in history leave us in massive debts that will increase until, once again the country votes conservative to sort it all out. I probably won't be here it see that happen. I notuce the frugal life style Blair had, an example to all labour voters. He and his very rich family did very well out of it, pity the country didn't, particularly those youngsters sent to Iraq.

Ana Sat 03-Jun-17 15:46:45

(although they do plenty of criticising of Conservative policies...)

Anniebach Sat 03-Jun-17 15:50:27

Here is one ?, can't think of another unless you count the Corbynites who argue with anyone who doesn't worship at the shrine of Corbyn and declare those don't are a Tory spy. grin

Tegan2 Sat 03-Jun-17 16:04:19

If we get a Labour government I can guarantee that Labour supporters on here will be as critical of any policies they disagree with as non Labour voters will be. You've obviously never been a Labour Party member, Ana.

Anniebach Sat 03-Jun-17 16:06:30

I doubt it Tegan, labour supporters would but not the Corbynites

Ana Sat 03-Jun-17 16:09:06

I certainly haven't heard any criticism or argument about Corbyn's manifesto proposals - but I suppose it would be different if they happened to win the election and those proposals started to unravel...

Tegan2 Sat 03-Jun-17 16:17:11

Just as the Conservative manifesto pledges have started to unravel even BEFORE the election....

ninny Sat 03-Jun-17 16:18:00

Labour know they won't win so can promise the earth knowing they won't have to deliver but will pick up some seats because of the giveaways.

whitewave Sat 03-Jun-17 16:35:19

How many u- turns has the Tory manifesto made to dategrin it is ridiculous. That on top of being clueless on how much it will all cost.

Ana Sat 03-Jun-17 16:44:20

Whereas Corbyn's 'carefully costed' promises would melt away like snow in sunshine if Labour won the election - especially after negotiations with the EU.

Ana Sat 03-Jun-17 16:44:43

Oh sorry, forgot the grin

Tegan2 Sat 03-Jun-17 16:49:49

I'm not a Corbynite, Annie and have been critical of him for a long time. But, as my daughter [a teacher] said 'mum; we can't go on like this'. Teachers are treated like dirt, as are hospital workers, the police etc. As a family we know we'll be stung with more tax with a Labour government but we're prepared to risk that if we can live in a better, fairer society. Yes; I do have a certain amount of trepidation at the thought of someone so inexperienced leading this country and I'm prepared to hold up my hands and say I was wrong if he does become PM but when you feel that things can't possibly get any worse you're prepared to take a gamble and that's what I'm doing. At least the brexit money promised to the people will actually go to those people and not to the millionaires/billionaires who instigated brexit for their own ends.

whitewave Sat 03-Jun-17 16:53:10

My son was saying about the latest slogan " the magic money tree" we know now why the Tories have the green tree as their symbol - it is a money tree for all millionaires.

Anniebach Sat 03-Jun-17 17:16:06

Tegan, I can understand your views, you can afford high taxes, many cannot

Not a case of saying you were wrong if Corbyn wins, sadly that will come later, after broken promises , strikes and the Brexit deal.

Tegan2 Sat 03-Jun-17 17:37:39

I don't pay higher taxes, Annie. In fact, I'm only just above the tax threshold and pay very little. It's my DD who will have to pay a lot more. Her husband is a high'ish earner. But she said to him 'how do you feel about me voting Labour if it means you'll have to pay more tax' [he does work very long hours and is very stressed] and his reply [which I'm very proud of him for] is, 'I don't mind if it means we will live in a better country'. DD says she doesn't think she can carry on teaching for much longer the way things are in schools, and she loves teaching. She is currently trying to buy text books for her pupils because the school can't afford them. She has classes with several special needs pupils in them that used to have teaching assistants but no longer do, the sizes of which are getting bigger [and these are older secondary students that can be difficult to manage]. I just can't face 5 more years of what we have now. If Labour lose and there is a centre party formed I shall have a rethink, but something's got to give. The country is at breaking point and I'm sick of the lies people are being fed by the gutter press. We're one of the richest countries in the world and this shouldn't be happening, so someone somewhere is telling lies and making a lot of money. The alternative to Corbyn could well be Boris Johnson [or Jacob Rees Mogg]. The thought of those two are like a living nightmare!

Rigby46 Sat 03-Jun-17 18:03:42

And tax is far far more than income tax - for starters, insurance tax goes up regularly, VAT may well increase - these types of taxes are regressive and disproportionately hurt the poorer

Rigby46 Sat 03-Jun-17 18:05:13

The Tories are far more likely to put up hidden and regressive taxes so they can protect the higher earners.

Labour's Magic Money Tree explained:

durhamjen Sat 03-Jun-17 18:19:58

Here's how Owen Paterson thinks we should be able to solve two problems at once. Is he a farmer, by any chance.

durhamjen Sat 03-Jun-17 18:21:06

Richard Murphy‏ @RichardJMurphy 21h21 hours ago

I have to tell Theresa May that there is a magic money tree. She knowingly used it to fund £435bn of QE to bail out banks #bbcqt

durhamjen Sat 03-Jun-17 18:27:01

Green party has stepped down in Rudd's constituency, hoping that the Labour candidate will beat her.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 03-Jun-17 18:32:32

Iam and Tegan the thing, I feel, about voting for the Labour Party this time is we would be voting for the Labour Party this time. No one is obliged to do it next time and I think more and more people are looking at each election before making up their minds.

The global economic crisis which started in the USA was ten years ago. It was reasonable to put the economy into austerity mode for two or three years but the Conservatives have used it to continue their ideological changes. This has not helped the economy - that is not to say no good things may have happened but, in the 1930s the USA had the New Deal and after the war the Labour government set up the assistance people needed to get on their feet and then the Macmillan government brought down taxes to boost living standards and allow for a strong economy.

Just like the "Critical" threat level will only work for a short time where terrorism is concerned, so it is with austerity. You must move the level down when you can. Labour is offering to lower the level and start boosting the economy. We may not like everything about them but they are definitely the only ones who understand this issue - this timesmile

I understand the argument you have put, GG for voting Labour this time, because the TM party must be opposed, but please vote Liberal Democrat if you are in a constituency where the LibDems were stronger in 2010. Do not just look at the 2015 result when the LibDems were viciously targeted by the Tories. The 2010 result will tell you which is the best non-Tory candidate to support.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 03-Jun-17 19:35:23

No good in my constituency Varian, I'm afraid.

whitewave Sat 03-Jun-17 19:40:03

It is fascinating how when May to called the election everyone hoped/feared for a landslide. What a difference a few weeks has made. Maybot has abandoned her mantra "strong and stable" because she has been called and found wanting. She made a huge mistake in calling the election, she clearly thought that she had it under total control, but it has slippped out of her hands. I still think that she will win, but she is undoubtedly damaged goods.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 03-Jun-17 20:06:04

If you make sure everyone is talking about you - especially if you think you are something special - it keep everyone away from looking at your record whitewave. The theory was there but, as you say, she was found wanting.
