She can't possibly stay - she's fatally wounded. Boris, Hammond and DD must be plotting as I post. Rudd a no-no, too close to her.

There is some hint about the advisors acting in a rude and threatening way to ministers.

Gordon Brown attempted to rein in their power I think as they became much too powerful in the days of Alistair Campbell. The wording in the code of conduct changed slightly in 2015 so maybe it has crept back in again. Insiduous and makes you wonder who is actually in charge.

Jalima1108 Sat 10-Jun-17 15:45:52

sorry - before I get picked up shock - insidious

The only people who will force her to resign are her own backbenchers. Hate to be all smug, but I've been saying that all along. That's the way these Tories do it - people must have seen those films where a loaded gun is conveniently left in the study after "the visit".

MaizieD........ it's a long time since I was called innocentgrin but what I said was 'they would do better to rally round' and not 'they will rally round' ....a whole lotta difference.
Ruth Davidson could not do anything at Westminster as she is not an MP.Mind you, the woman deserves a medal.

So, the two aides have gone - sacrificial lambs, IMO.

I can't believe that grown men and women in the Cabinet were so cowed by these two 30-something advisers. hmm

Have I missed something - have any 'big beasts' e.g. Bozzer, Davies, Rudd, etc dared shown their faces to answer any questions about the election result, and as to why they put up with Nick Timothy & Fiona Hill?

Tegan2 Sat 10-Jun-17 16:54:31

I did ask about it a while back [so it seems odd now, given what has just happened] but will the Conservatives now have to call themselves The Conservative and Unionist Party'?

Ana Sat 10-Jun-17 16:58:55

Isn't that their official title anyway?

Baggs Sat 10-Jun-17 17:01:04

Yes, it is.

Baggs Sat 10-Jun-17 17:01:50

All the Conservative election posters on lamp-posts round here gave the full title.

Tegan2 Sat 10-Jun-17 17:05:27

So it isn't spoof news that they've asked that the acronym for the brexit negotiating team [Conservative Unionist Negotiation Team]team will not be used?

Riverwalk Sat 10-Jun-17 17:13:35

That may well have been the case in the west of Scotland Baggs but here in London the 'Unionist' bit made no appearance!

MaizieD Sat 10-Jun-17 17:15:07

The issue with the advisers just highlights what some commentators have been saying about May for a long time. She is not a team player, she doesn't listen to advice from anyone outside her 'team' (i.e her advisers) and she doesn't tolerate dissent.

It will be interesting to see how she copes with them gone as it was also felt that they were pulling the strings.

Tegan2 grin. Love it. Boris is the bookies favourite for PM. I like Boris but the next person that always comes to my mind after I've thought of him is Lord Lucan. Gawd knows why. Must be the accent, don't'y'know? Still, at least Boris speaks in tongues which would come in handy at the Brexit negotiating table. Perhaps he could take a nanny to Brussels to keep him in order and make sure his shirt is tucked in.

Tegan2 Sat 10-Jun-17 17:47:40

I know he's the complete outsider but I do actually like Hammond, who could be a John Major type 'boring grey leader' who turns out to be quite good.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 10-Jun-17 17:58:31

Tegan grin

durhamjen Sat 10-Jun-17 18:02:56

The prime minister does not speak at the negotiating table, though, Nottooold. In fact, come to think of it, that might be a better place for him than at the negotiating table.
TM has said he will have the same job.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 10-Jun-17 18:02:57

They went to the country, against the democratic process, to get a mandate for May. Perhaps they should learn to live with their decisions and keep her.

I do not what you mean about Hammond Tegan and, although she is not an MP and can therefore not take over, I think Ruth Davidson seems an honest person. I don't like her politics but that is different.

Charleygirl Sat 10-Jun-17 18:04:36

Tegan that is the first and only laugh I have had all day!

GracesGranMK2 Sat 10-Jun-17 18:04:58

Perhaps he could take a nanny to Brussels to keep him in order and make sure his shirt is tucked in.

She could also ensure that he tells the truth. He seems to have had a strange relationship with it so far.

NotTooOld Sat 10-Jun-17 18:32:19

dj - you're right on both counts, of course. I was getting carried away on my vision of Boris and his nanny. grin

Elrel Sat 10-Jun-17 18:59:47

Tegan - is that you?!

Jalima1108 Sat 10-Jun-17 19:12:21

Tegan grin

I do like the British sense of humour, there have been some laughs arising out of a dire situation!

whitewave Sat 10-Jun-17 19:19:55

Gavin Barwell hmm wasn't he involved in the manifesto u- turn? Doesn't fill you with much confidence does it?

Tegan2 Sat 10-Jun-17 19:21:42

Elrel; I came back temporarily to answer a specific question that had been put to me and decided to hang around as everything had suddenly become very interesting!

Tegan2 Sat 10-Jun-17 19:22:41

Gavin Barwell? Isn't he in Take That?
