We appear to be going naked into the negotiating chamber (as someone once mocked). No deal as yet with the DUP and the Sunday papers full of the civil war that has broken out yet again ( did it ever stop?) in the Tory party. Hammond laid out his position today very clearly didn't he re the absolutely ridiculous mantra 'no deal is better than a bad deal'. How on earth is this going to play out? A chancellor and a PM diametrically opposed. How desperately we are being let down by our so-called leaders, how naked is their own sel-interest being exposed on the Eupropean and World stage. The Tory party in all its glory.

So at the moment is Labour looking st the EFTA opinion? It certainly sounds like it.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 17:01:06

Independent reports that Hestletine thinks that Brexit is almost certainly not going to happen..... oh oh oh please be right.

Galen Wed 21-Jun-17 17:01:34

I'd be happy with that, even thigh I'm not labour

Galen Wed 21-Jun-17 17:02:04

thigh though!

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 17:06:48

And me galen I would really prefer staying as we are but if I'm forced I'd go with EFTA - I'm Labour did you knowgrin

Ana Wed 21-Jun-17 17:08:15

Ah...

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 17:16:16

confused

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 17:43:06

I forgot to mention a while back. I have a friend just retired at a high level in HMRC who apparently are still proceeding as if VAT and Customs union will still be in existence after Brexit.

Odd isn't it?

durhamjen Wed 21-Jun-17 17:50:28

Margaret, here's the original.

mobile2.derbund.ch/articles/59442e3cab5c3744ba000001

It already has an article in about the Queens Speech and her being dressed in EU blue!

durhamjen Wed 21-Jun-17 17:51:09

By the way, the translation has gone viral now.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 18:12:00

Good -it was excellent.

Why oh why are people like IDS still allowed to tell lies about Brexit?

durhamjen Wed 21-Jun-17 18:17:31

He could be one of those who loses his seat if the boundaries are changed.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 18:19:13

Yippee!!

durhamjen Wed 21-Jun-17 18:29:05

Calm down. We have to have the boundary changes first, then an election. And don't forget the DUP don't want the boundary changes.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 18:30:12

grin

Oh, well. It may not last long.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 19:23:26

?There may be trouble ahead?

GracesGranMK2 Wed 21-Jun-17 19:33:47

Are you singing whitewave? smile

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 19:36:01

Well I have to do something to pretend this nightmare isn't happening.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 21-Jun-17 20:15:00

You'll turn into Julie Andrews you know grin

It is only going to get more interesting I'm afraid. I wonder if Heseltine could possibly be right? My worry is that they will be glad to get rid of us now.

whitewave Wed 21-Jun-17 22:10:47

So looking further ahead. How many loons support a hard Brexit? Would there be enough supporters of a softer Brexit to defeat them?

whitewave Thu 22-Jun-17 08:14:04

May off to Brussels today with the knowledge that the electorate was not prepared to strengthen her hand in the Brexit negotiations. The electorate are not therefore convinced of her version of Brexit.

She needs to stop being persuaded by the hard right and listen to the entire spectrum of thought on Brexit, including those who totally rejected Brexit, who are undoubtedly growing in number.

Brussels of course are more than aware of all this with the knowledge that May will almost certainly not be around within the near future.

durhamjen Thu 22-Jun-17 08:50:49

Growth doing really well now. That's really going to help her in her Brexit negotiations.

durhamjen Thu 22-Jun-17 08:52:22

A report one year on.

whitewave - if you mean by "hard Brexit" that we leave the single market then I support it - and I'm not a loon or daft - I just have a different opinion than you. Please don't insult me.
As for the comments about the Queen's hat - I notice that there are only 5 "stars" - perhaps that's HM's opinion of how many member states will be left in the EU after it implodes grin
