I can't find the thread on this - probably a zombie one by now, they've been going on so long!

It's all gone very quiet - maybe the DUP have again stopped taking phone calls from their 'confidence & supply' partners.

Anyone heard anything?

The monies represent a 2% increase on top of any parsimony the Tories are willing to throw at the NHS.

But NO!!

Much better spent on our corrupt selves. We have the power and we are going to use it!

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 09:28:21

Although I voted to remain, I think your use of the word 'half-wits' is rude and uncalled for Smithy.

whitewave Tue 27-Jun-17 09:30:59

I think to be fair nanny people are so fearful, worried, frustrated or just plain furious over where this government is taking us, so there is bound to be the odd bit of colourful language simply through sheer frustration at times.

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 09:39:37

There are a plethora of adjectives available to use which are less pejorative whirewave. Like Chomsky I'm interested in the psychology of language and thought.

whitewave Tue 27-Jun-17 09:42:36

Oh Chomsky - blimey a blast from the pastgrin

Yes but in the heat of a moment.

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 09:49:23

I'm not saying I agree with his language acquisition theories 100% whitewave but I do believe that higher level language skills are important or essential in developing higher level thinking. A prime example of this is Trump with his 'not good' level of tweets.

But we digress.

whitewave Tue 27-Jun-17 10:02:56

Yes I know exactly where you are coming from. But you can't assume etcsmile

The most intelligent amongst us will resort to the use of expletive if pushed.

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 10:04:30

I'm not above the odd expletive either, and I bet I know more than most!

whitewave Tue 27-Jun-17 10:05:17

grin well blush!!!!!

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 10:05:23

But that wasn't the issue with using 'half-wits' was it?

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 10:06:24

OK whitewave I won't make you prove your point grin

whitewave Tue 27-Jun-17 10:07:44

Thanks

whitewave Tue 27-Jun-17 10:08:16

I am suppose to be hoovering and steaming the floors!!!!! Tut tut

Rigby46 Tue 27-Jun-17 10:11:28

I love Chomsky

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 10:34:11

I'm supposed to be preparing a speech for tomorrow. Better get on with it.

You make him sound sound like an ingredient Rigby46 wink

inishowen Tue 27-Jun-17 10:42:42

As someone from Northern Ireland I'm keeping out of this discussion. The longer I've lived here the less I seem to know about politics.

mcem Tue 27-Jun-17 10:52:10

But inishowen you have a view that we don't have and it might help us understand if you tell us how you see it.

We don't need to know if you're a tory/dup voter but can you tell us if you think NI will benefit greatly or if you're a bit cynical about how this cash will be used? Do you feel that you/your representatives have been bribed?

If you're brave enough to do this I hope others will read your post thoughtfully and not shout it down.

Morgana Tue 27-Jun-17 10:57:47

Yes please share thoughts about N. Ireland. We will defend u if necessary! !

MaizieD Tue 27-Jun-17 11:15:14

I'd be delighted to get a view from Northern Ireland. Most of us are just speculating, really.

Baggs Tue 27-Jun-17 11:40:08

Here is a point of view I heard this morning in answer to the insistence from Nicola Sturgeon that Scotland should now get more money from Westminster as well.

There's a big difference between the attitudes of the DUP and the SNP towards the UK government. The DUP has secured its special deal because it is agreeing to support the government in certain areas. The SNP does not and most probably will not offer the UK government support in those areas (nor any others, most likely).

So yes, it's a political deal the government has just made with the DUP. So what's new? Governments are always making deals like this and always have. It's a political fact of life.

Baggs Tue 27-Jun-17 11:42:36

That point of view certainly strikes me as logical. Anyone else?

BTW, accepting the logic of an argument doesn't mean you have to like the deal it's talking about.

CardiffJaguar Tue 27-Jun-17 11:55:07

NI already gets the best deal of the devolved governments so this extra money is cream on the fancy cake.

Baggs Tue 27-Jun-17 12:03:04

Yup.

As a sort of aside, might there be good reasons why NI already gets what's seen as "the best deal" amongst the devolved governments? You know, like a lot of extremely serious troubles to deal with and smooth over from its recent history.

radicalnan Tue 27-Jun-17 12:10:25

Blimey spending money on ur ouw people instead of supporting some African Spice girls, whatever next.

You cannot blame the DUP for doing what is best for their people.

It may also be best for us. The alternative could be Corbyn..........

NannyMcPhU Tue 27-Jun-17 12:13:21

No one is arguing that it isn't a polical deal, and it is logical to team up with the only Party likely to want an alliance, or whatever they want to call it.

In fact it's all that the Conservatives can do if they want to remain in power.

It's the fact that it's a house of cards that could topple at any time and the affiliation fee being paid.
