The U.K. Has far more to lose than the EU and they are all prepared to accept a small percentage of trade loss - the UK appears ready to accept a40+% loss of trade or agree to high import/export tariffs.

The airlines which move their HQ to within the EU will be still able to have flights within the EU - there are a surprising number of flights that both Ryanair and Easy jet do between EU countries which do not include UK.

They do NOT wish to stop the flights at all but because the rules of theOpen Skies policy etc will be affected they may be required to do so until new agreements are in place. It may just be possible this will all be there before March of next year but if it is not 2019 flights will be affected - they are planned a year in advance.

Travelling to the eu now is no different to getting a train to a destination in the uk.
I feel the same when we are driving round Europe. Pre schengen when you had to stop at every border and show your passports at least you felt as if you were going somewhere, now it's boring, just motorway after motorway until you see the sign to say you are now entering xyz. Other than that you would never know.
But that's what 'they' wanted, wasn't it.

At the moment citizens of countries from outside the EU Schengen area do need to get a visa - they need to apply at the Embassy of the country they wish to travel to - they are only valid in the one country. The visas for France are about £30 per person - know two people who have needed these - a Thai lady and a Zimbabwean man travelling with his UK girlfriend.

My son in law manages an Audi dealership, so obviously if it goes tits he's in trouble. Only 6 months ago he moved to a bigger house which meant a much much bigger mortgage. He's not someone who takes on big mortgages lightly.
So I'm assuming that so far everything looks as if it's going to be ok.

Easyjet and Ryanair will still have hubs in UK airports - if they didn't they would not be able to supply so many flights and that would hit their profits.

I'm steeling myself for the actual downsides as and when they come but I am equally awaiting the positives and will embrace them with gusto. grandMattie, your suggested compassionate approach also resonates with me big time. Well said Day 6. There is still a concerted attempt to stop Brexit so these scary stories are played out to the public to see if they can change things. There is a possibility that an agreement will not be in place but I don't think that it will come to that because it is not in anybody's interest regardless of which country you come from. I'm sure there will be some adverse effects of Brexit when it comes to flying but there will probably be some good things too. If RyanAir and EasyJet remove themselves from GB, it won't be long before somebody else steps into their shoes.
When Brexiteers talked about taking back control, they weren't talking about the general public having control, they were talking about our Courts, our Parliament, etc. They were talking about accountability of those bodies (maybe the accounts can be signed off!) I am not anti immigration per se, I am not anti being part of a trading community or having close links to Europe but until the EU is a proper democratic institution, I don't want to be a part of it. The UK's democracy is certainly questionable sometimes but certainly a better bet than the EU's as far as I am concerned. Wouldn't it be lovely too to ensure that our Politicians are responsible for their decisions rather than blaming the EU!

There are several countries who have already stated they will enter into trade agreements with UK once we have left the EU. Many EU companies will also want to continue trading with UK. Do all the pro-EU posters want to see negotiations fail just to be proven right?

Bright flights did not stop because at that time there was no cheap carrier and there also was no Open Skies agreement - just as they companies worked on their own and did not have agreements with other airlines to 'share' passengers. Today you can book on one airlines site and find that you are actually flying with a totally different one!

What you fail to understand is that the UK can have its cake and eat it. The economies of the other member states are so dependent upon trading with us that they will give us whatever we demand. And we will have £350million per week to fun the NHS. Also we won't have to put up with all those nasty foreigners who have the temerity to come over here to keep our essential services running. Is this not so or have I been told a load of lies?

We will be at the controls of our own aircraft. Who cares that we've not had any flying lessons.

What a shame that the negotiations couldn't be handeled by business men and women instead of bureaucrats and politicians. People who understand what makes the world go round: money, you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.

There's a lot of sarcastic posts on that article rose, some of them quite clever.

In no way do I want the negotiations to fail. What does bother me is the nobody knows responses on here. Nobody knows does not have to go hand in hand with so why worry? or we can't do anything about it.

Expressing your views and showing an interest in what is happening now will send messages to the government about what is important to us, what worries us.

There's no doubt that in 10 or 20 years time we'll have established trade agreements again, but until that happens we will live through times where standard tarrifs will be charged on trade. This will mean you and I will pay higher cosst for anything not produced in the UK. Then, when each new trade agreement is signed after several years of negotiations, prices might drop again (and lots of back patting will go on).

As one of the younger members on GN and living at the lower end of the income scale, I don't think anyone has the right to tell me what is and is not scaremongering.

Petra we do live in France and normally drive/ferry back to Uk but we do have family and friends on three other continents where a car ferry us not possible. When these family members visit they have more family members in UK than us here.

With all due respect to those posting on here, I am amazed at how many of you are such experts able to predict what the results of the negotiations will be. You are obviously privy to information that the rest of us are not.

I suppose what it comes down to is: some of us are optimists and some are pessimists. I'm very fortunate to be a former because I've learnt in life that most 'problems' usually turn out ok.
