OK I am being sexist, but that Next dress on the front of today's DT really got my day off to a bad start. Fair enough, her pins are pretty good, but a woman of her age does NOT IMO wear a little pink shirt dress suitable for a girl/woman less than half her age several inches above the knee.
Girlish? Yuk!
Say what you like about Michelle Obama or Sam Cam but they knew how to look elegant, whether formally dressed or smart casual.
(Brigitte Macron is another whose determination to look "young" irritates me.There is such a thing as trying TOO hard. )

Made me laugh out loud!
I dislike TMs politics and everything she stands for, but I dislike more the way that women tear each other apart about their appearance. She is tall, she often wears short dresses, she obviously likes them - get over it.
I think it is a mistake for any woman over fifty to wear a miniskirt, and Brigitte Macron (who as Trump pointed out is in good shape) sometimes combines the mini with high heels, at least Theresa May wore flat sandals with her short dress.
I'm sure her outfit was carefully contrived for the photoshoot. It shows she doesn't always spend a lot on every item, it shows a touch of casualness and holiday spirit and she may even think a more youthful style than her working wardrobe.
I agree that TM's clothes and looks are not what we ought to be discussing. Everything else about her is so much worse.
I am not a Tory supporter, but I think...
Such bitching about Theresa May's little dress is not worthy of Gransnet. I feel sorry for anyone in public life, especially women, who are slagged off for how they look. It is sexist against our own sex. We are stopping ourselves from being equal when we snipe and carp like this. We should not do this to either sex. I am glad these bitchy critics on Gransnet don't know where I am going on holiday!
I'm afraid I think it's an ugly dress.
And I think it would be on most women. It's a blah colour , and it's too long for a shirt too short for a dress and it's a totally unflattering shape. It's like a big , pinkish square .
However, if a politician can ever be said to be out of the public eye, she is on her hols .
For me, I'd have the fashion police pull her over - this deserves a ticket
Although I'm no fan of Theresa May I think she has a really good sense of style. I know I'm being very sexist when I instinctively react to her elegant distinctive clothes before I react to what she is saying. This pink linen shirtwaister is not her best outfit (yes it's too short) but she and she with her stylists or personal shoppers usually make brilliant choices. I am conscious that I actually think if she loses her premiership (good politically for me) I would really miss seeing her new outfits!
I have always found TMay to be stylish in an understated way. Good for her that she wears pink and slightly above the knee....so do I and I am older than she is!! We don't have to have a blue rinse and wrinkly stockings just because we are women of a certain age! Those days are gone. If you have the figure, which she has, then why not wear what you like and not what everybody else thinks you should wear.
There are things I wear on holiday that I wouldn't wear at home and I guess some folk would criticise them. I'm with Imperfect re the sexism, but actually I'm wondering how much criticism there would be if we posted photos of ourselves in holiday (or even our everyday) clothes. There certainly would be! Would we like it? I don't think so. There would be tears, recriminations, accusations of bullying etc etc etc. My mum used to say if you can't say anything nice, say nothing.
(Have set up shields )
I think the dress is fine . Teresa May is very slim, has good legs and is on holiday, the dress is casual and suitable, just May be not to everyones taste.
Haha, good pun there rafichagran
Not sexism in the least - I'm quite happy to criticise the likes of Robert Peston and Boris Johnson too! If you're putting yourself out there you at least ought to look in a mirror before you venture out.
Perhaps May would look, better if she stood up straight. Her posture is diabolical.
Bring back Harold Wilsons Mac . Covers a multitude of sins?
Shock, horror - she could have been wearing shorts!! (I say this tongue in cheek, by the way).
Leave the woman alone. I would hazard a guess that all of us at sometime have thought "why did I wear that?". Even so, her dress isn't horrendous - take a look on your high street when next out and do some comparisons.
How nasty Anya how do you know she hasn't got something wrong with her back.
paddyann IMHO Brigitte Macron always looks like "mutton dressed as lamb". I think TM should wear what she feels comfortable in, look at Boris sometimes, mind you I take no notice as I like Boris. I live in shorts in the summer, short ones in my garden (& sometimes to my local shop
). If I go shopping in town or out for coffee I wear longer shorts (knee length), I do however wear sleeveless tops if it is very warm
Since when did being Prime Minister mean your holiday (or day to day) wardrobe is open to ridicule? I elect a person on their policies, ability to govern and putting the needs of the UK first. NOT on their dress being an inch shorter than Mrs Nobody in suburbia thinks they should be.
I'm sure we all wear clothes that at the time believe we look good in..but look at photos later down the track and wonder why we thought we looked the bees knees.
How petty must a person be to get upset by someone else's clothes.. there are no boobs hanging out...no arse cheeks on show so what is the problem?
If you put yourself in the public eye you do have to accept criticism I'm afraid.I do get the impression that she is someone who regards herself as being attractive [eg prior to being PM she did show quite a bit of cleavage on a regular basis
].Having said that [and probably totally contradicting myself in the process] it does seem unfair that women are always judged on their appearance far more than men.But then again, it's women who judge other women, isn't it; men don't even notice. In fact, I think women dress to impress other women, not their menfolk...

I do agree with that Tegan .
I am happy to show a bit of leg but draw the line at cleavage. Nothing worse than an old wrinkly cleavage (not that I have one)
but apparently it comes from sleeping on your side.
If I looked like TM in that dress I'd be happy to wear it.
Men certainly don't notice nicely manicured nails or pretty earrings [imo].
It wouldn't matter what I wore, DH wouldn't bat an eyelid.
Me (parading up and down in a new frock); What do you think of this.
Him; Ssss'oright
What a sweet, kind person you are ninny ?
Sexism here what does it matter. Whatever she wore someone would be critical of it. Pity some people do not having something better to worry about.
I love colour. I love different. I can do it. If she is happy wearing it it's her business. It's not affecting anyone what she wears. Ì am more bothered about what she does as PM as that does affect me. Incidently I don't like the dress on her. However I don't care as it isn't affecting me. Now would offend/affect me is being stood or having to be stood next to someone who stinks as thanks revolting
