TM and THAT dress

OK I am being sexist, but that Next dress on the front of today's DT really got my day off to a bad start. Fair enough, her pins are pretty good, but a woman of her age does NOT IMO wear a little pink shirt dress suitable for a girl/woman less than half her age several inches above the knee.
Girlish? Yuk!
Say what you like about Michelle Obama or Sam Cam but they knew how to look elegant, whether formally dressed or smart casual.
(Brigitte Macron is another whose determination to look "young" irritates me.There is such a thing as trying TOO hard. )

Poor woman, she's on holiday ..... Give her a break!

Craftycat Wed 26-Jul-17 11:09:01

I am so glad no-one follows me about taking photos when I am on holiday!! I wear shorts, strappy tops & tankinis. Surely everyone has the right to relax & chill out & wear what they damned well please.

I feel very sorry for her but all in all she looked OK.

Maybe TM does not have as much fashion sence as some of the other ladies in politics so what busines is that of anyones, these past few weeks with warmer weather I have had the misfortune to see rather large women/men dressed in the dreaded lycra and off the shoulder tops, midrifts on show for evryone to see,you would be surprised how far lycra can stretch over the lumps and bumps,at least TM has a good figure and great legs for a lady of her age.

I have two pieces of advice for TM: longer skirt lengths and higher necklines.

GrandmaMoira Wed 26-Jul-17 11:33:18

She is on holiday. Most of us wear things on holiday that we wouldn't wear elsewhere. I would wear that dress - as I'm short it would come to my knees. It covers the arms which are usually the worst bit for older women. I've just bought some shorts for beach and garden as I can choose what I wear, despite "age rules" and like TM my legs are slim.

Good for her I say. She looks comfortable and cool, just what you want in hot weather. It's incredibly difficult to find reasonably priced, easy to wear summer dresses in this country, wish I'd seen something like it before my hols.

lizzypopbottle Wed 26-Jul-17 11:38:53

It's ironic that the headline to the photo is, 'Getting away from it all'. My first thought when I saw it was that she obviously can't get away! However, getting back to the OP, I think TM's knees would look better with a mid-knee hemline. Middle aged knees shouldn't be seen IMO. I never get mine out!

Rosina Wed 26-Jul-17 11:42:53

Poor woman. She must feel like a hunted animal these past few months. I have no particular bias for the Tory party or Theresa May but for God's sake - after the battering, criticism, hateful comments and bad press that she has had she must have longed to get away and wear something decidedly 'non tailored', and just have some peace. The article in my paper today even commented that she had 'shiny legs' Aagggh!

Desenzano is lovely I'd like to be wandering around there right now given it's raining here, even in "that" dress.

rosesarered Wed 26-Jul-17 11:54:50

I agree Terri in fact all the towns on Lake Garda are lovely ( I like hopping on and off the boat at different places.)
Having looked at The Telegraph online ( pic of the dress) I like the colour, but not the style ( for me) a bit short, but so what, she has decent legs.
Seeing the pic hasn't put a crimp in my day Maw grin

I have one very similar in pale blue Baubles it came from Next.

gillybob Wed 26-Jul-17 11:58:19

.... mind you as I said earlier, I do have fabulous legs wink

rosesarered Wed 26-Jul-17 12:00:19

We believe you gilly grin

gillybob Wed 26-Jul-17 12:04:15

It's a case of nice legs, shame about the face!

rosesarered Wed 26-Jul-17 12:06:25

Oh, am sure that your face is perfectly lovely.....you are simply too modest.?

starbird Wed 26-Jul-17 12:08:29

She may have wanted to wear shorts to tan her legs, but perhaps didn't have the confidence, but as long as they were not mini shorts presumably no one would have critisized her? She may even have a swimsuit underneath that dress, if she will be sunbathing later in the day. SHE IS ON HOLIDAY FOR GOODNESS SAKE. How awful to be followed by security men at all times as well as the press, then have to put up with snide comments from the public including women of a similar age to herself some of whom probably look far worse when they are relaxing.

Ilovecheese Wed 26-Jul-17 12:09:28

I thought she looked o.k. Nothing wrong with us oldies showing our legs or arms or any other bits as long as we are decent.
There is too much criticism aimed at older women wearing what they like.
"too old for jeans" "shouldn't show batwing arms" etc..

At our sort of ages we should have the confidence to wear what ever makes us feel good, especially on holiday.

Oldwoman70 Wed 26-Jul-17 12:29:00

If I didn't wear jeans I would be half naked!!! Wear them all the time. I don't tan so even on the last day of a holiday I am still pasty white, does that mean I should stay covered up all the time to stop blinding people with my white legs? Perhaps all us oldies should wear burkhas to hid our disgraceful bodies from the world.

patty47 Wed 26-Jul-17 12:34:06

Leave the woman alone !

mischief Wed 26-Jul-17 12:40:39

She's on Holiday. We all wear things on holiday that we wouldn't dream of wearing at home, I suggest. I live in a holiday town and often wonder if he/she looked in a mirror before they left their caravan/hotel/b&b.

Arry Wed 26-Jul-17 12:43:49

We all make mistakes, especially when on holiday. Most of us get away with it

KatyK Wed 26-Jul-17 12:46:22

I would wear that dress on holiday and I am a few years older than the PM.

Lupatria Wed 26-Jul-17 12:47:17

i agree with the people who say that it's not the sort of dress for her.
when i saw the photo i thought of my mum's sayings - mutton dressed as lamb and a bundle of hay tied up with string!!
sorry mrs may, it's the wrong colour, the wrong length and completely the wrong dress.

Oldwoman70 Wed 26-Jul-17 12:51:40

Lupatria have you heard the saying "If you are going to criticise someone make sure you are perfect"

paddyann Wed 26-Jul-17 12:58:08

I think her dress sense is awful ..just like her politics.I dont agree with you about Brigitte Macron though I think she looks fabulous ,always stylish and well put together ..definately French style at its best .
