TM and THAT dress

OK I am being sexist, but that Next dress on the front of today's DT really got my day off to a bad start. Fair enough, her pins are pretty good, but a woman of her age does NOT IMO wear a little pink shirt dress suitable for a girl/woman less than half her age several inches above the knee.
Girlish? Yuk!
Say what you like about Michelle Obama or Sam Cam but they knew how to look elegant, whether formally dressed or smart casual.
(Brigitte Macron is another whose determination to look "young" irritates me.There is such a thing as trying TOO hard. )

It reminds me of something that was often seen in films - when the woman wears just the man's shirt. Of course she's entitled to wear what she likes, but I'm with those who think it's not flattering. We are typical women, one look and we either think, 'oh no' or we like what we see. I do think it's a shirt rather than a dress.

Why is this in "News and Politics"? Shouldn't it be in "Fashion and Gossip"?

Cindersdad Wed 26-Jul-17 20:01:47

My wife's legs are far better than TM's. Anna Soubry is one of the few Tories MP's who was openly pro-remain though I think that she accepts Brexit is inevitable. I agree she looks great for her age.

I will have a go at TM for her politics but do not agree with being unpleasant about her appearance.

The woman's on holiday. She likes it, she's comfortable and she has the confidence to do exactly what she wants. Good for her!

petra Wed 26-Jul-17 20:23:50

Totally agree Maw it's awful. I would never wear anything on holiday that I wouldn't wear at home. A good fit is everything to me Re clothes, be it a tee shirt or shorts.
If your going to wear a shirt waister the shape should be in the cut not a drawer string.
All that's lacking is a 'nice' beige cardy wink

Aren't we a funny lot and of such diverse opinions. I thought Mrs May looked absolutely fine. In fact I had a degree of pleasure in seeing her looking so relaxed even although I am aware that would have been superficial after the last few weeks she has endured (admittedly self-inflicted) I've made foolish decisions myself in the past but happily the publicity has been minimal!

Jalima1108 Wed 26-Jul-17 21:14:28

I would probably wear it but with a pair of slim jeans
And not that shade of pink (it does nothing for me!)

gagsy Wed 26-Jul-17 22:12:24

I can't believe what I've read! Leave the woman alone! How would you like it for people to pick over you and criticise your dress, legs, shoes etc! Nobody deserves it. Has no one anything more important to ruin their day?!!!

jacksmum Wed 26-Jul-17 22:16:20

Hey this woman is on holiday with her husband , hope everyone ,press included will just leave her alone and let her have her holiday in peace, how would all other woman feel if their every movement and clothe chose was all over the press .

maddy629 Thu 27-Jul-17 08:10:29

I never wear dresses above my knee but I will defend the right of anyone else to do so. The woman is on holiday for goodness sake, leave her alone.Yes Anniebach I agree with you, totally.

Imperfect27 Thu 27-Jul-17 08:34:08

Are we still talking about this? LOL [smile}wink

Madgran77 Thu 27-Jul-17 08:50:09

Hollycat Exactly! Says it all! I cant believe all the comments on here!

MawBroon Thu 27-Jul-17 08:50:22

Why is this in "News and Politics"? Shouldn't it be in "Fashion and Gossip "?

It WAS on the front page on several national newspapers (not just red tops) and she purports to be a political leader.
Answer your question Farnorth?
And when the entire mounted cavalry has dismounted from their high horses ( leave the woman alone , let her enjoy her holiday in peace etc etc etc)
1) as she won't be reading this, how exactly does it impinge on TM's holiday?
2) is nobody entitled to express an opinion other than those of a sycophantic nature?
3) and do I have nothing better to spoil my day? How long have you got?
4) Anya's comment about posture was a perfectly reasonable one, as TM does tend to slouch - a failing among many tall women especially those taller than their menfolk.
So maybe less of the outrage from ninny unless she has private specialist knowledge.
Honestly what a storm in a brew
I could be tempted to repeat the (rhetorical) question about nothing better to do with your time.
Take it as read.

Anniebach Thu 27-Jul-17 08:55:09

Considering the length of your post MawBroon I will ask, have you nothing better to do with your time ?

ninny Thu 27-Jul-17 09:01:11

Seeing as you started the thread in the first place MawBroom seems you haven't.

MawBroon Thu 27-Jul-17 09:24:20

I won't stoop to answer these sanctimonious comments about my time. Those who know me and of my situation through Soops Kitchen will understand why.

Jane10 Thu 27-Jul-17 09:36:54

and that is why people are so surprised at your post Maw!

kittylester Thu 27-Jul-17 09:46:26

I think Maw might be trying a bit of distraction! So let's not get personal.

Anniebach Thu 27-Jul-17 09:48:32

Then Maw should not get personal to other posters

NanaandGrampy Thu 27-Jul-17 09:48:45

Well, I for one think there are a lot of people getting het up over nothing.

Why can we not discuss a persons fashion sense and such? As Maw rightly points out , I suspect Mrs May has a tad more pressing things to read than GN. The woman's made of sterner stuff than too crumble over comments on her dress.

What I don't get is why the personal comments about Maw? How she spends her time is no ones business but hers . Why would anyone wonder why any of us distract ourselves by posting niff naff and trivia here ?

Anniebach Thu 27-Jul-17 10:38:26

It was Maw who questioned if others had better things to do , is that not questioning how others spend their time?

Elegran Thu 27-Jul-17 10:41:45

Too much time? I have often wondered over the dedicated posters who spend every waking moment minutely dissecting every detail of the political situation but seem not to recognise a spot of tongue-in-cheek defusing humour - have they too much time on their hands?

Tegan2 Thu 27-Jul-17 10:44:47

Well, given that I spend most days on my own it's nice to see a photo of someone in an ugly unflattering dress and be able to chat to people about here so I can only thank Maw for starting the discussion...[isn't it the sort of thing we'd chat about in 'the real world' without people getting funny about it? we'd all make our point and move on]

gillybob Thu 27-Jul-17 11:01:55

...."ugly unflattering dress" Tegan I have got that dress (well in blue anyway) and I look A MAZ ING in it daaahhhling grin

I know what you mean about spending a lot of time alone. I'm the same and would go "round the twist" if it weren't for the Gransnet community.

Tegan2 Thu 27-Jul-17 11:10:52

...smile...
