I was out of internet reach for most of the week when durhamjhen posted the link to the talkradionews on 11 August so I've just seen it. It reminds me so much of the police investigations into e.g. Cyril Smith, where it is beyond question that investigations that should have led to prosecution, which is highly likely to have led to convictions, were closed down. The police involved refer to 'men in suits from London - M15' arriving, taking their files, warning them if they ever talked not only would they lose their jobs, they'd go to prison for breaching the official secrets act.
I'm not a huge fan of conspiracy theories. When investigations go wrong, it's often down to mistakes or poor management of the information gathered and the general view within society that csa/cse can't be as prevalent because how could that be, that would mean we're all culpable and that can't be true - can it?
In answer to your question petra I'd say many many many more and I do not link that solely to the kind of organised abuse this thread is focussed on.
