Does anyone else think Trump has a point?

I am really worried about the idea of re-writing history to suit either left or right and am thinking Trump may have a point.

I would not want Nazis or the KKK marching in my town (I would want the organisations banned, if it were in my country) but surely we have to be even handed if people are breaking the law.

karen exactly so

AmMaz Sat 19-Aug-17 17:30:24

Well well...so one Gransnetter says my post doesnt make sense, one deems me outright incomprehensible (how's that for a 'personal attack'?), one says I'm perfectly comprehensible and one says nobody responded because the reply to my (deleted) post wasn't clear! Que? grin

One person's confusion is another person's paranoia Oriel?

But if in doubt get it deleted? What triggers that? Somebody reporting it? - Whoever cries victim first?

And then when you get the GN email notifying you your post has been deleted, you cant reply! How's that for (Trumpesque?) autocracy? grin - of which we have all been victims if we value equally each others' opinions and freedom of speech, even when it contradicts or questions our own positions.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 18:39:47

Sorry, AmMaz, but I don't understand that at all.

lemongrove Sat 19-Aug-17 18:46:58

durhamjen you say ' have you seen that Trump is going to be impeached now'?
That would be big news were it true! Wheere did you read that?

lemongrove Sat 19-Aug-17 18:48:04

There has been nothing on the news, so it obviously isn't true.

Ah, a page entitled 'Impeach Trump Now', but that doesn't mean that he is going to be, merely that some wish it.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 19:11:34

Okay, don't read the article, then.

lemongrove Sat 19-Aug-17 19:15:00

I did.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 19:19:45

"Today, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn), ranking member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, announced that he will introduce articles of impeachment against the president, stating that Trump had “failed the presidential test of moral leadership.” "

whitewave Sat 19-Aug-17 19:24:34

Yes that has been talked about in some seriousness ever since last weekends debacle.

Have you seen the CNN thing listing all the chaos since January - absolutely astounding!!

lemongrove Sat 19-Aug-17 19:25:03

Yes, I read that, but it doesn't mean, as you stated, that Trump was going to be impeached.Just that his enemies will do what they can to suggest that he should be.

Eloethan Sat 19-Aug-17 19:37:02

I'm not au fait with the American constitution but if the office of President explicitly or implictly stipulates that he or she demonstrate "moral leadership" then don't you think he might have failed in that respect lemongrove?

When you speak of "his enemies", there are plenty of those because he is reported to be the most unpopular President of the modern era.

lemongrove Sat 19-Aug-17 19:52:50

I think he probably failed the moral test even before he became POTUS Eloethan tbh.
However reading durhamjen's assertion ( in the actual words used) it read 'have you seen that Trump is going to be impeached now' I naturally thought it was imminent, when if course, it isn't.Words matter.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 20:21:37

So saying he will introduce articles of impeachment is just a suggestion, is it?
Trump only needs six republicans to go against him and he will be impeached - unless he does a runner like Nixon.

This is in the news, I think.

lemongrove Sat 19-Aug-17 21:03:34

Not meaning to be pedantic durhamjen but the outcome is certainly not a done deal at the moment, far from it.
I have had a busy day, and when I saw your first post about this, thought I had missed something BIG on the news.

durhamjen Sat 19-Aug-17 21:28:31

You said there had been nothing on the news. It is in the news. From today.

lemongrove Sat 19-Aug-17 21:36:33

He is not actually 'being' impeached grin but have it your own way.

durhamjen Sun 20-Aug-17 09:33:45

This is a brilliant idea.

AlieOxon Sun 20-Aug-17 09:42:41

Isn't it!

durhamjen Sun 20-Aug-17 11:33:08

I'd love to see it copied elsewhere - particularly in the US where white supremacist marches take place. So much more effective than just marching against them.

whitewave Sun 20-Aug-17 12:24:24

That is so good.

whitewave Sun 20-Aug-17 12:35:22

I wonder what next week will bring us.
