I voted to leave and would do so again. I considered long and hard and read as much as I could to gain an informed opinion. None of us know what will happen but what I do know is that every piece of encouraging news seems to be ignored.
I love the countries on the continent. I wish them well but think the UK is different. It is not a better place being dictated to by Brussels. I have just come back from holiday - we travelled nearly 4000 miles through France, Spain and Portugal. The difference in those countries compared with the UK is staggering. Obviously they differ in so many ways but one of the most noticeable is the size of the populations. The population in France and the UK is the same yet France is 3 times bigger. I am not a racist but i believe it is entirely reasonable for us to control our borders.
The EU legislation that has a stranglehold on business in the UK is largely ignored on the continent... an example is in construction. Houses are often built using methods which would simply not be allowed in this country - very little scaffold, lax working practices, etc. Yet here we have ridiculous situations where common sense is no longer used. My husband runs a business in the construction industry and finds it increasingly difficult to function. An example he encountered fairly recently was where a site was closed for a whole day because a H&S rep decided that the basins in the portable toilets weren't sufficiently long for someone to put their whole forearm in. Work was stopped causing massive problems.
The Europeans need us. They won't want to lose trade deals with the uk. Amongst many imports, we are the biggest single destination for the export of German cars and the uk is the biggest importer of Champagne.
I think de Gaulle had it about right when he opposed our entry into the common market.. the UK is different.
