Orchids and other lovely plants that don’t need a lot of attention
Who am I?
I am a Palestinian girl.
Before I was born, the occupation took most of my village’s lands to build a new settlement called Halamish.
Then they arrested my father. When my aunt went to visit him, one of the soldiers pushed her over the stairs of the court and she died.
Since I was little the settlers of Halamish keep stealing more and more of our lands to expand the settlement.
Our home has demolition order because it is in Area C. The settlers are allowed to build on our land, but not us.
In 2005, the settlers made the spring of our village part of the settlement and prevent us from using it, even though many of us are farmers.
All these things happened with great support from the Occupation army and government.
When the people of the my village started to resist the injustices with protest marches, my father was arrested again.
My mother was arrested too. My uncles, aunts, brothers, cousins - all of them were arrested too.
My cousin Mustafa was killed by the Israeli army. My uncle Rushdi was killed by the army too!
Later, an Israeli sniper shot my mom in the leg and she couldn’t move for long time.
Almost every week, the army breaks into our homes to arrest one of my family or to confiscate our laptops or phones.
During our marches, they shoot us with tear gas rubber bullets - my cousin is in hospital badly injured because he was shot in the face the week before.
A few days ago, two soldiers came to our house to take positions to shoot at the demonstrators from my village. I stood with my family to prevent them, the soldier pushed me and I slapped him.
And now I am in jail!
My mother and my cousin are in jail too!
The occupation government and media call me a terrorist.
Do you know who I am?
And what would you do if that was your life? Or the life of your child?

Durham In the case of the middle east, violence is not the answer."
Said by someone who is quite happy we sell arms to the middle east.
Are you absolutely, 100% certain that lemongrove is "quite happy we sell arms to the middle east (sic)"? Do you know that as an absolute, indisputable fact? That's quite an extraordinary statement to make about someone you've never met. Or should you have prefaced it with "In your opinion"?
Trisher Did you read the editorial in the link you posted?
Yes Trisher, I did.
Did you not read my post? Neither the Palestinians nor the Israelis are free of blame and there is much more to be read and understood than the original OP would have us believe.
So you don't agree with the editorial you posted that blame should be firmly placed on the shoulders of the Israelis Chewbacca?
jalima1108 there was no internet or social media when the French resistance were working and making use of the media to show the struggle is part of 21st century resistance.
Just caught up with this thread, if that is what you posted about me durhamjen then no wonder it was reported and deleted! The things you say about posters you don’t like on GN, so childish.
Personal, lemon.
Blame cannot be all on the Israeli side at all, and it isn’t.
The Palestinians do have a lot to put up with, but their firing rockets into Israel and killings of Jewish people do nothing to help their cause and ratchet up the hostilities even more.
I think it’s established by now that the teenager in question is not worthy of sympathy.
Established by whom- not by many of us Lemon.
After reading about the family and seeing the video, it’s clear that she was deliberately trying to provoke soldiers while the camera rolled. The family sound appalling.
Lemong, I do hope your family, your grandchildren, will never have to go through what this family went through - not surprising that when you have to endure such hardship, humiliation, family deaths and constant attacks - people do react in ways which may not be the wisest at the time- one of her relatives had just been shot in the face - and she reacted ... not wise- but few of us would condemn her for 'losing it'.
I'm afraid that your repeated lack of empathy towards anyone less fortunate, is indeed appalling - to many of us.
Have you actually read about her family and what members have been involved in?
Have you read her blog and her praise for Jewish children being murdered?
I will reserve my sympathy for those who deserve it.
What is this ‘repeated lack of empathy’ ‘to many of us’ ?
Your left wing friends on GN perchance?
You will not goad me into agreeing with you that all Israelis are bad, and all Palestinians are good, trisher. I have repeatedly stated that both sides are as guilty as each other. Extrapolate from that what you will. Both sides have committed atrocities against the other. But, in my opinion, Ahed Tamimi and her family are only inflaming the situation. Feel free to think otherwise; it bothers me not.
lemongrove oppression, violence and subjigation breeds hatred and violence. It has always done so. If the Israelis continue to dominate the Palestinians, and deprive them of their land and their rights the Palestinians will continue to hate them. If the Israelis have a sincere hope for peace all they have to do is withdraw. This girl's attitude may not be attractive but it is understandable.
The Israeli terrorist organisations the Stern gang and the Irgun were dissolved after the state of Israel was formally established. Perhaps the Palestinian 'terrorist' organisations might similarly cease once a formal state of Palestine is established?
The trouble is, that Hamas have always said that they won’t be happy until they have everything and the Isrealis are beaten back, their feeling is ( and they don’t hide it) that the only good Jewish person is a dead one. They don’t believe that there should be a ‘state’ of Israel.
If their only objective was a state of Palestine and they then intended to live peacefully ever after, it might work, but nobody in Israel believes they really would do.
It may come about, in time, but in order for any negotiations, attacks and murders by Palestinians would have to cease.
The state of Israel came about, (was brought about,) rightly or wrongly, but we are where we are.
I feel sorry for individual cases on both sides but not for this case by the OP.
Most organisations fighting oppression claim more and usually settle for less. There doesn't have to be a Palestinian state. There are other options. Many think a single state with the same rights for all its citizens would be best. The problem with this is of course that the state would have to be secular and not Jewish and many Israelis would oppose this.
That would be lovely but, realistically, it'll never happen given the hostility and enmity that the land grabs have led to. I've just been looking at maps of the changing borders and was horrified at the israeli incursions. No wonder people are driven to such heights of rage. Terrorist or freedom fighter?
Durhamjen - no need for nastiness. I don't consider myself as the 'thread police'. I was merely pointing out that form in this instance did not satisfactorily follow function as far as I was concerned. I felt disappointed and a little duped .The original poster made much stronger points from her perspective when she dropped the 'character' and spoke her mind often and honestly. I disagree with her position and cannot condone what this family does just as I cannot condone what so-called Isis did in Borough Market for instance.
I should report it if I were you.
Hummm - ‘ form did not satisfactorily follow function’ - humm.
As it was patently obvious that jura wasn't talking about herself in the OP I really can't see what the problem was.
Somebody been on a course, do you think, maryeliza?
Or is that too personal?
I did a PhD in the eighties but nothing since.
There's still a nastiness emerging. Such a shame.
