Is this young woman a terrorist?

Who am I?

I am a Palestinian girl.

Before I was born, the occupation took most of my village’s lands to build a new settlement called Halamish.

Then they arrested my father. When my aunt went to visit him, one of the soldiers pushed her over the stairs of the court and she died.

Since I was little the settlers of Halamish keep stealing more and more of our lands to expand the settlement.

Our home has demolition order because it is in Area C. The settlers are allowed to build on our land, but not us.

In 2005, the settlers made the spring of our village part of the settlement and prevent us from using it, even though many of us are farmers.

All these things happened with great support from the Occupation army and government.

When the people of the my village started to resist the injustices with protest marches, my father was arrested again.
My mother was arrested too. My uncles, aunts, brothers, cousins - all of them were arrested too.

My cousin Mustafa was killed by the Israeli army. My uncle Rushdi was killed by the army too!

Later, an Israeli sniper shot my mom in the leg and she couldn’t move for long time.

Almost every week, the army breaks into our homes to arrest one of my family or to confiscate our laptops or phones.
During our marches, they shoot us with tear gas rubber bullets - my cousin is in hospital badly injured because he was shot in the face the week before.

A few days ago, two soldiers came to our house to take positions to shoot at the demonstrators from my village. I stood with my family to prevent them, the soldier pushed me and I slapped him.
And now I am in jail!
My mother and my cousin are in jail too!
The occupation government and media call me a terrorist.
Do you know who I am?

And what would you do if that was your life? Or the life of your child?

It's a nasty topic. There's going to be responses that (some) people won't like.

Birene: 'cannot condone what this family does just as I cannot condone what so-called Isis did in Borough Market for instance.'

how on earth can you possibly compare the two situations and actions here. Really?

Elrel Sat 06-Jan-18 11:07:28

Birene - I think by now we understand your position whether we condone it or not.

Israeli students are paid to troll the internet and infiltrate sites with challenging posts regarding Israel. Please be aware.

lemongrove Sat 06-Jan-18 12:44:10

I wonder if Palestinians do the same?
Not aware of any ‘trolling’ so far Blueskies in fact I think it would be obvious if it had happened.

Jane10 Sat 06-Jan-18 12:45:18

Really lemongrove?

lemongrove Sat 06-Jan-18 12:48:42

Yes Jane because most posters are known to us.Of course, if anyone thinks I am an Israeli student, then good luck to them, I wouldn’t mind being about 20 years old again.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-Jan-18 12:55:11

Please think of the position of blacks and coloureds under the Apartheid régime - how on earth could they have protested or fought with 'other methods' - their house and parts of towns bulldozed- their gardens, their animals killed - sent to live in shanty towns in the desert
Not just under apartheid - by Mugabe to his own people too. Let's hope that country can recover now.

We failed to intervene there and imo that was wrong - if we do intervene anywhere that seems to make matters worse. I would not know the answers and I doubt any of us do however much we discuss these problems.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-Jan-18 13:05:53

jalima1108 there was no internet or social media when the French resistance were working and making use of the media to show the struggle is part of 21st century resistance.
I think stealth was the method used by resistance movements as of necessity.

I meant the pushing and shoving in the street of an armed soldier - so this was not spontaneous (understandable perhaps); this was a pre-planned provocative act in order to be filmed, get arrested and spread her story via social media around the world? Which, if so, has succeeded.

However, it is evident that it has divided people, presumably the world over.

Jane10 Sat 06-Jan-18 19:12:19

lemongrove of course I know the regular posters including you (and I usually agree with you) but some people appeared for the first time which seemed suspicious to me.

NannyTee Sat 06-Jan-18 19:20:59

I think it was strange from the very start. Pretending to be that person. Weird.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-Jan-18 19:54:29

I think jura2 is a real person NannyTee
Well, a real Gransnetter, although that may not be the same thing hmm

lemongrove Sat 06-Jan-18 20:46:45

grin
Jane you have to agree with me ( on absolutely everything) or you will be banned from The Argy along with Febreze and Dettol.

Elrel Sat 06-Jan-18 20:47:25

The OP was a device to catch our attention, what's wrong with that? Who am I? is a well known activity in schools and at parties. We played it at New Year.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-Jan-18 20:48:45

Well, we played it too, but I was a banana.

jura2 Sat 06-Jan-18 21:23:11

Real for sure - several of you have met me too. And I never pretended to be that person.

I explained twice already- so won't repeat. And yes, some new names appeared out of nowhere - and it did seem strange.

Israel has what used to be called National Service - all young people have to do it with a few exceptions.
So these armed soldiers could be unprepared for provocations like this. and could even by sympathetic in their hearts to the so-called Palestinians.
As many Israelis are.

Fennel Sat 06-Jan-18 21:46:13

ps Israel needs to have its conscripted Israeli Defense Forces because they're a tiny country, about the size of Wales, surrounded by mostly hostile Arab nations.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-Jan-18 21:49:52

I don't think just Israelis get called up - not sure what the position is now but I was chatting to a friend whose son went to work on a Kibbutz years ago (as so many young British people did) and if he stayed longer he would have been called up.

Bubbe Sat 06-Jan-18 23:15:22

Jalima. Just for info: So far as I know, its only Israeli citizens who have ever been called up to the Israeli Defence Forces.

As explained, this OP was NOT about the Palestine/Israel conflict at all- but a example of how people can become 'terrorists' when pushed to the limit, and when they have no access to the political process of support from outside.

Just seen another video that explains the circumstances of what happened. And it makes it clear that it was not unprovoked- they had just shot her cousin in the face in front of her, and they wanted to push past her to go up to the family's house, up the stairs, to be in a better position to continue shooting at the children. The villagers have got into the habit of filming all the time- not just this incident- They did not 'set up' the shooting of the cousin, the invasion of the village and the fact soldiers wanted to push by them to go up the stairs to continue shooting ... did they?

I won't post here- as, again, this post was about 'freedom figther or terrorist' - and this was just a thought provoking example which appeared on my FB on that day.

jura2 Sun 07-Jan-18 10:05:54

She just has her hands ... and they are armed to the teeth, illegal occupiers - with a large modern settlement just built on the land owned and farmed by the village, they have cut off their water so the settlement can have plenty - having shot other kids just before, and wanting to trespass on their house to continue shooting kids ....

and SHE is the terrorist? Last post on this thread from me.

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Jan-18 10:31:08

Bubbe thanks.
This would have been years ago

maddyone Sun 07-Jan-18 11:06:12

Just in case any of you think I am not a real person, I want to assure you all that I am indeed real, I live in the UK, I have grandchildren, and a member of a minority group in my very close family. I do not post all the time but I do post from time to time. My sympathies still lean towards Israel because I believe they need and deserve a homeland. I believe a two state solution would be the ideal but it is unlikely to happen any time soon because other states have vowed to never be happy until every Jew is dead (someone else had that objective not so very long ago.)

I am not a troll.

Jane10 Sun 07-Jan-18 11:30:43

I'm glad you're not a troll. Israel does have an ever expanding homeland. Its the Palestinians that are continually losing out.
