The Poverty of Brexit

Poverty of ideas
Poverty of economy

It seems that NI is as useless said to stay in the Single Market according to EU draft.

Expect a major row from the headbangers and denial from Number 10

Round and around we go.

"Boris Johnson will tomorrow lay out his vision for a “liberal” Brexit, as previewed in the Guardian. But there’s already a liberal vision for the UK’s future – it’s inside the EU.

What’s more, staying in the EU would help us create a fairer society too – by managing globalisation better than we could if we go solo. What chance of standing up to China dumping cheap steel or multinationals refusing to pay fair taxes if we quit?"

Boris doesn't want us to have a fairer society, though. He's in the wrong party for that.

Apparently he has submitted two speeches to No 10. Always one to hedge his bets.

Thanks gg Oluwole is certainly making the headlines on social media. He is impressive.

Johnson will talk about that other unending con known as Global Britain. Being a member of th3 EU has not stopped us trading with China or India or indeed anyone else.

Watch Johnson as he reiterates that lie this morning. He’s good at lying.

Poll by Metro ran yesterday

I give a lot of respect for those courageous Brexiters who are now speaking out to say that they would never have voted leave if for example they knew that there was no plan for leaving.

suzied Wed 14-Feb-18 08:20:49

I won’t watch or listen to the lying toerag that is Boris. He is trying to “reach out” to Remainers? Stop lying and apologise is the only way.

MaizieD Wed 14-Feb-18 08:27:12

This needs to be read because I just can't summmarise it.

On the complexities of 'grandfathering' (copying and pasting existing EU generated trade agreements) as an interim measure before negotiating new ones.
The blog author spent 20 years working on the WTO secretariat. I think we might assume he knows just what he's talking about.

Johnson - since when has changing your mind become a betrayal and undemocratic?

As Oluwole has reiterated. In 5 years time, Brexit won’t be completed but the vast majority of the population will have or would vote to remain. How is that democratic?

We need another vote.

durhamjen Wed 14-Feb-18 09:26:12

I bet Johnson now wishes he'd kept his speech secret.

Did it say how many voted, whitewave?
The one I saw had over two thousand at the time, but that was yesterday, midday. I don't think it was a Metro poll.
It was still 90-10 for Brexit to be stopped.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 14-Feb-18 09:38:54

It was never going to be easy, was it Maizie but how I despise those politicians who said it would be. You only have to watch the little video to see not only how complex it is but how the EU could treat us with little regard if they had bigger fish to fry in the future.

eazybee Wed 14-Feb-18 10:18:50

I love the way you absolutely know what people will be thinking in five years time, Whitewave.
You are clearly one of the more intelligent, better educated and younger members of the population who apparently voted to remain.
And a fortune-teller.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 14-Feb-18 10:27:45

That is not what she said eazybee. It might be worth reading what whitewave is referring to. It was about the change in demographics. There will simply be more who voted remain than voted leave in five years time.

mostlyharmless Wed 14-Feb-18 10:30:17

John Redwood has just (more or less) admitted that he originally (2012) wanted two referenda. One to ask the people whether they wanted to renegotiate the EU deal, the second vote would be whether to accept the terms of the new agreement.
Now Redwood finds a second referendum inconvenient says Adonis.
On Victoria Derbyshire show just now.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 14-Feb-18 10:45:08

One day history will be written and the reputation of some politicians will be in tatters.

whitewave Wed 14-Feb-18 10:50:44

So Johnson is going to talk about betrayal by those of us who want to reverse the vote.

Tell that to his wife, mistresses, government and party leaders as well as his friends.

whitewave Wed 14-Feb-18 10:52:37

Redwood squirmed when being skewered by Adonis. He had no answers.

whitewave Wed 14-Feb-18 10:55:30

I would be interested if any GN Brexiters could outline the maths that say Britain’s econmy will be better after Brexit ,

If no one can, then they are winging it just like Johnson.

I am not feeling reached out to by Boris so far, just slightly patronised.

whitewave Wed 14-Feb-18 11:20:08

Looking at the Boris Johnson thread, blimey!! Not popular is he??

whitewave Wed 14-Feb-18 11:21:56

This is how Johnson votes over tax avoidance
