Grandad, I think some of the other Jewish groups are now starting to speak out, as there are a lot who don't agree with the Board of Deputies. Corbyn will meet the BoD but in an open meeting, with no demands to be met beforehand. Jewdas has done some good work about anti semitism and how to criticise Israel without being anti Semitic. I think it will be helpful to listen to groups like them, alongside implementing the Chakrobarti report and Jennie Formby's review of the compliance unit

The BBC has just said that the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council have replied to JC's letter accepting his offer to meet and outlining a way forward on talking anti-Semitism.

Not in the Daily Mail! which proves that an untruth can be presented as a truth and thereafter believed as such.

Earlier, Mr Corbyn said: “I’m very happy to meet them anytime and my door is open to them and to any other Jewish organisation.

“We’re determined to deal with the issue of anti-Semitism in our society and in any political party including our own.

“We have processes, if somebody has committed any anti-Semitic act or made some anti-Semitic remarks they’ll be brought to book and we’ll deal with them.”

It is true, they do have 'a process'. I mean - look at Ken Livingstone. He's going through the process. Anyone have any ideas how long 'the process' takes?

If the Chakrabati report is fully implemented, Ken can be readmitted, as there's a 2 year time limit. So if 'the process' takes more than 2 years, you're not dealt with at all.

I'm not sure the Chakrabati report has come under enough independent scrutiny to determine if it will solve the problems that people seem to think it will.

Primrose, what independent scrutiny should any report from a political party get? The Chakrabarti report was compiled by a number of people, who consulted with a much wider range of people. Has the Tory party submitted any of their process for dealing with anti semitism for independent scrutiny?

Primrose, the Chakrabati report is now in the hands of Jennie Formby in her new role as Labours General Secretary. I would think that it was the first item on her agenda as she starts that office this week

Her forerunner left it to gather dust on the desk, and I wonder if that was to create trouble for Jeremy Corbyn. However, that and similar reasons was in the end the encouragement that was shown to him to pass through the door.

The accusation that Corbyn is soft on Antisemitism is baseless. Corbyn has repeatedly condemned AS in the most emphatic terms, both as an MP and leader of the opposition.
In response to allegations of AS at Oxford University Labour Club, labour instituted a formal investigation chaired by a figure that commands the respect of Corbyn harshest critic.
Labour members accused of AS have been immediately suspended or expelled. In no case have any of those members been allowed to continue with their membership.

Corbyn has dealt with all these cases as severely as any previous leader.

I'm not sure bmacca but that's a fair point. I'm sure once Ken is back, this will all die down and be forgotten.

I understood that Livingstones suspension has been extended and that he is being subject to another formal investigation.

As far as I am aware the Jewish Labour advised on this and their advice was heeded.

What a load of charmers the Jewdas group seem to be if they chant ‘prayers’ like you describe Annie what is it with these far left radical groups? Corbyn needs to get on now and meet and discuss with Jews from other parties, and Labour ( but not pro Communist ones) if he hopes to get this under control.

Primrose, there are far more Holocaust denier's on the right of British politics than there has ever been associated with the left. The National front, The British defence League and in recent times a current one that has good connection to a prominent group and member of the Conservative parimentry party.

Even gets invitations to black tie dinners.

That comment is just trite Primrose. If there is no more anti-Semitism in the LP than in the rest of society no one is saying that is a good thing.

Why, however, are we not asking what society can do rather than just what the LP can do? The LP are attempting to deal with it; what have we heard the government say about anti-Semitism in general in the overall society? Why has this attack been aimed at one man who is renown for wanting to talk problem issues through? Why has the government - who are currently responsible for the laws going through parliament and could be seen as responsible for the nudges that are given to society, sitting so quietly on this subject and allowing an unelected group of Jewish "leaders" to take over their position?

No race or religion should be treated in a hateful way - but why are we only talking about this one race or religion? Have their been not other racist remarks on Facebook or twitter? Why have the papers not brought those to the fore?

Racism and anti-semitism can be found everywhere, in every political party, social class and religious group.
Why blame it all on the leader of one political party when there is clear evidence that anti-semitism among Labour voters is reducing and is far less than for other parties?

Just convenient for the Tories as it’s not long before the local elections, and they’re making the most of it.

I now wish centre left MP's would leave the Corbyn party and form a new party, I am ashamed to say I am a member of the labour but working to be a communist party

I remember some furore over that, but, according to the Independent (is that independent - it should be if its title is anything to go by?) that wasn't strictly true.

Given my slight familiarity with Dacre and slightly better acquaintance with Geoffrey Levy (who didn’t supply the headline) I would have been surprised to find anything.^
