A worker on minimum wage was paying £1.50 per week pension, this week it has increased to £4.73

A £13 weekly increase in wages becomes £6.28 increase in wages

The company I work for uses the NEST pension scheme which was set up by the government as a public body and has to report back to the government. I assume that the money is protected. Whenever an employee changes jobs they can still continue in the scheme as it is available to all employees.

Life is very hard for a great many young families who work their socks off and never manage to get anywhere through no fault of their own

Don't forget that this also applies to our generation too. Many struggled all their working lives and struggle and budget still in retirement.

Life is unfair, but it is prudent to pay into a pension scheme. I have had to live off my occupational pension since ill health caused my early retirement. I thank God every day I had the wisdom to contribute, (no OAP for me in my 60s, or benefits) even though I could have done with the money in my purse when I worked.
