A continuation of Momentum/Intertia/Magnetism/Elasticity but with a less scientific bias. grin

A thread about Corbyn. For lovers and haters.

dbDB77 Wed 18-Apr-18 21:47:15

Mostlyharmless - you failed to mention that the "study" you quote is from a Corbyn supporting left wing news website - evolvepolitics - that has joined Impress the press regulator funded by Max Moseley!
Hardly objective.

Fennel Wed 18-Apr-18 21:49:21

"The party leader before Corbyn was the first Jewish leader of the Labour Party"
This reminded me of Benjamin Disraeli, Annie. But he was the leader of the conservatives in his day.
Most of the Jews I know these days support the conservatives. With a few notable exceptions.
I think the link between Jews and socialism dates back to Russian pre-revolution days.

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 21:55:46

mostlyharmless, you can keep avoiding the truth , it is not the Conservative party which is being accused of anti semitism it is the labour party. Your argument is just an attempt to avoid the discussion and the accusations .

Do you think Corbyn was right to walk out of the house ?

Day6 Wed 18-Apr-18 21:57:32

why didn't Jeremy Corbyn stand up and say he was appalled & ashamed that anyone who supported him would have such vile opinions - he should have said "Not in my name" - but he doesn't - it's just the usual "any form of racism is wrong...." He's a disgrace - by refusing to condemn such dreadful views he is condoning them

Applause dbDB77 - that's it in a nutshell. No one is denying there are some people sitting in Parliament who hold views we cannot agree with - that's a cross party thing and it applies to all walks of life. You can try to stain Labours rivals all you like mostlyharmless. You are clutching at straws in your defence of Corbyn and those within the party who should be flushed out.

However, we now have a whole party stained by anti-semitism and a cowardly leader in Corbyn who has been far too close to groups and public incidents which are without doubt anti-semitic.

His walk-out on one of his own (Jewish) party MPs was not only astonishing but disgraceful and hateful.

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 22:04:43

dbdb77 the survey was carried out by YOUGOV a respectable mainstream polling company. You can check the results on their website if you wish to verify its validity.

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 22:09:56

What I don't understand is how anyone can defend Corbyn, he even had the phone number of the Momentum activist who launched a verbal attack on Ruth Smeeth, she left the room in tears , he ignored her distress and greeted her abuser,

Yesterday he walked out when his own party's MP's were speaking of the abuse they suffered, how can there be any defence of this ?

Fennel Wed 18-Apr-18 22:12:02

mostlyharmless - I agree with you.
Racism, including antisemitism, is widespread in all political parties.
And in the human race in general.

dbDB77 Wed 18-Apr-18 22:14:40

mostlyharmless - all news outlets interpret & put their own slant on statistics & polls - the link you provided was to evolvepolitics - a Corbyn supporting website - so hardly objective.

Jalima1108 Wed 18-Apr-18 22:56:41

You haven’t read the link properly Jalima
I have a feeling of déjà vu

mostlyharmless Thu 19-Apr-18 07:51:23

Deja vu? Where have I heard that before?
Oh yes. corbyn and Momentum, Corbyn's Magnetism, Corbyn's Elasticity, Corbachev's Cock ups
Keep going.

Day6 Thu 19-Apr-18 08:03:17

Sadly mostlyharmless, Corbyn has provide enough material to keep such threads running.

I used to quite like the man but now I see him as weak, devious and selfish in that he is striving with Momentum backing to bring Marxism into British politics. He is anti-establishment, first, last and always and that is his default position.

Couple that with a lack of fervour for his own country which is almost traitorous, an unwillingness to 'do' anything, or take decisive action, a penchant for ignoring MPs in his own party, and a default desire to knock the opposition at every turn - even when national security is an issue and Parliament is united behind TM - is revealing. His links with anti-Semitic groups is disgraceful.

Corbyn is a weak, rebellious, hard left back-bencher who has been thrown into the spotlight and been found wanting. He is not fit to lead the Labour Party, never mind the country.

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 08:14:36

Sums him up Day6

lemongrove Thu 19-Apr-18 08:16:35

You said it! Day6 The man is a disgrace all round.

Polls matter very little, what is happening in the LP regarding antisemitism is real and is all due to Corbyn’s new supporters and his own weakness as a leader.

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 09:11:30

When Corbyn had to face a leadership challenge Margaret Hodge said - I thought he was a honourable man but he is a devious man. It was the same for me.

Eloethan Thu 19-Apr-18 09:46:50

Day6 I disagree entirely with your remark that Corbyn is verging on being a traitor. Had he, and a few others, been listened to in the past, we may not have changed the appalling events in Iraq and then Libya but at least we would not have been responsible for the subsequent utter chaos in the Middle East.

We need people to challenge the established way of doing things. Sadly, with a few notable exceptions, people who benefit from the way things are are unlikely to want to change them, even if it means creating more effective and fairer systems, policies and procedures.

Mrs May and her party, who like to present themselves as great patriots, have presided over the most appalling degradation of our public services - health, justice, education, transport and housing. Successful countries are the ones that invest in their infrastructure and their people, not just because it is the right thing to do but because it creates the conditions which are necessary for economic success and social progress. I do not consider politicians who campaign, as the Conservatives have, for a reduction in regulation of, for instance, financial institutions and the construction industry are working in the interests of the country as a whole but primarily in their own and their donors' interests.

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 10:03:25

If he can betray his own party, turn his back on MP's suffering appalling abuse , claim that talking is better than fighting but will only talk to one side, how can he be trusted not to betray this country ?

POGS Thu 19-Apr-18 11:57:40

Only a fool would not agree Anti-Semitism can be found with idiots of any party.

However there was a notable rise in Anti-Semitism and general discourse became toxic after the Labour Leadership contest in 2015. I am glad that after having posted on this problem since 2015 some people may realise that it is has not been the right wing press , right wing posters who have been peddling misinformation because the debate held on the 17 th in Parliament came from the heart of those MPs who have been subjected to it's vile abuse.

Yes we all know Anti-Semitism is not only a Labour problem but if this debate does one thing I hope Anti-Semitism, bullying and downright poisonous personal attacks are dealt with as promised. Have you watched the debate ?

hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2018-04-17/debates/9D70B2B4-39D7-4241-ACF8-13F7DFD8AEB2/Anti-Semitism

Andrew Gwynn Labour

" No political party has a monopoly on vice or virtue, but we will put our house in order. Let me be clear today that if anyone is denying the reality of anti-Semitism on the left, they are not doing so with the endorsement of the Labour party or its leader. Prejudice against and hatred of Jewish people have no place whatsoever in society, and every one of us has a responsibility to ensure that they are never allowed to fester again."
-

Ruth Smeeth Labour

" Over the past two years, however, I have experienced something genuinely painful: attacks on my identity from within my own Labour family. I have been the target of a campaign of abuse, attempted bullying and intimidation from people who would dare to tell me that people like me have no place in the party of which I have been a member for over 20 years, and which I am proud to represent on these Benches. My mum was a senior trade union official; my grandad was a blacklisted steelworker who became a miner. I was born into our movement as surely as I was born into my faith. It is a movement that I have worked for, campaigned for and fought for during my entire adult life, so it was truly heart-breaking to find myself in Parliament Square just over three weeks ago, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Jewish community against the poison of anti-Semitism that is engulfing parts of my own party and wider political discourse.

If the House will indulge me, I would like to read out a small sample of what I have received on social media, but before doing so, I have to thank the dedicated team at the CST who have protected me, shielded me from as much of this abuse as possible, and worked with the police on the occasions when abuse became threats. As others have said, they should not be necessary, but personally I would be lost without them. They have also worked their way through the thousands of pieces of anti-Semitic abuse I have received to provide the following greatest hits, although I must warn the House that my fan-base has shown scant regard for appropriate parliamentary language, so I apologise in advance:

“Hang yourself you vile treacherous Zionist Tory filth. You are a cancer of humanity.”

“Ruth Smeeth is a Zionist—she has no shame—and trades on the murder of Jews by Hitler—whom the Zionists betrayed.”

“Ruth Smeeth must surely be travelling 1st class to Tel Aviv with all that slush. After all, she’s complicit in trying to bring Corbyn down.”

“First job for Jeremy Corbyn tomorrow—expel the Zionist BICOM smear hag bitch Ruth Smeeth from the Party.”

“This Ruth Smeeth bitch is Britainophobic, we need to cleanse our nation of these types.”

“#JC4PM Deselect Ruth Smeeth ASAP. Poke the pig—get all Zionist child killer scum out of Labour.”

“You are a spy! You are evil, satanic! Leave! #Labour #Corbyn.”

“Ruth you are a Zionist plant, I’m ashamed you are in Labour. Better suited to the murderous Knesset! #I Support Ken.”

“Your fellow traitor Tony Blair abolished hanging for treason. Your kind need to leave before we bring it back #Smeeth Is Filth.”

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 12:14:02

Corbyn must be proud of such supporters

Fennel Thu 19-Apr-18 12:49:43

If I dare mention it - the above disgraceful social media comments are only marginally related to anti-semitism. They''re related to the unsolvable problem of the hostility between SOME Israelis and SOME Palestinians.
IMO anyway.

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 13:31:48

Zionist smear hag bitch . Hang yourself you vile treacherous Zionist Tory filth, you are a cancer of humanity .

Only marginally related to anti semitism ?

Day6 Thu 19-Apr-18 16:29:51

We need people to challenge the established way of doing things.

I don't think there is ^an established way of doing things* Eloethan in terms of military engagement. Doesn't each situation have to be taken with regard to the situation?

I do suspect some left wingers hate the fact that the isolated strike and show of opposition to the use of chemical weapons in Syria has proved to be successful - a targeted and isolated incident which much of the world supported.

It was only with hindsight that attacking Iraq and toppling Saddam was shown to be hasty - but only because no WMDs were found. Saddam Hussein was a sadistic tyrant who ruled Iraq with an utter contempt for humanity, Is the world a poorer place because of his demise?

The WMDs didn't exist but his barbaric regime did.

I and many others would not agree that western involvement has created the ISIS uprising or that we are to blame

Sadly there have always been Muslim fanatics and they have always pledged death to the west. We are not 'infidels' because Saddam Hussein was killed. He and his followers were and remain butchers without mercy, thought or and respect for life.

You say we would not have been responsible for the subsequent utter chaos in the Middle East. What is this thinking?

Why on earth do the left insist we are to blame for the mess that is the middle east? I suspect one of two of us just might apportion blame to ISIS and their horrific barbarism and cruelty which knows no limits, unleashed on their own people and more recently throughout Europe.

You imagine they'd all be weaving goat-hair tunics if Saddam still lived?

Let's get a sense of proportion, please. The fact that Corbyn would allow such regimes to exist would not bring peace to that part of the world that has been a bubbling cauldron of extreme religious violence and anti-western hatred for centuries.

His sort of 'pacifism' makes him a pliant and supportive tool for evil men and regimes. In a leader that is not a strength.

Day6 Thu 19-Apr-18 16:33:42

Ooops. Lack of proofreading before posting. * each situation on merit.*

Day6 Thu 19-Apr-18 16:47:44

POGS, that makes for chilling reading. shock

Labour is infested with violent and aggressive extremists. I cannot imagine any decent person wanting to associate themselves with such coarse and hateful anti-Semitic louts.

Was New Labour too mild mannered, too reasonable, too respectful for Momentum/Marxist activists? Was that was the reason for Momentum's purge of the Labour Party?

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 16:59:59

I believe New Labour was too mild mannered, too reasonable, too respectful for the far left. One only has to remember how .McDonald was applauded and praised for shouting from a stage in the O2, " they are f*****g losers "

I cannot imagine Gordon Brown, Alan Johnson ,Tessa Jowell, Tony Blair and co, speaking this way to voters , McDonald knew the 'type ' he was wooing

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 17:03:09

I found POGS post harrowing to read, but I thank you POGS for posting it.

Good post Day6
