Would those who voted Leave still do so? And why? I am genuinely trying to look outside my Remain bubble, but the logic of Leave still continues to elude me. I am asking Gransnet because apparently older people were most likely to vote to Leave.

Well said Bridgeit
Thank you Varian
So sad that most of the Remainers on these Brexit threads cannot partake in good general debate. Obviously they do not possess the desired skill and consider gaining the advantage is to personally attack and bring down the other side. Such a shame because it is an interesting subject where I feel that if people would respect others points of view even if they don’t agree enthralling debate could occur. At the moment it’s ‘Go for the jugular’ which only poorly reflects some personalities and put many other GN members off joining the conversation.
I wrote:
"Intransigent Brexit supporters can't be influenced by facts or reasoning. They were influenced by Daily Mail polemics to out it crudely. They can be influenced only by different emotive memes that counter those they are at present enthralled by"
I cannot say any more at present.
Sorry if I offend you Bridgeit but I hate to stand by whilst bullying behaviour goes on.
Allygran has her point of view on Brexit which I happen to agree on ( as do some others) but her well informed posts seem to anger a few posters ( perhaps because they are such well informed posts!) I hope she will continue to post them.
mcem yes there are certain posters that I would wish to sometimes not see their posts but really you know, having posts ‘hidden’ would be childish,
Because you don’t like the contents, as they disagree with your own thinking, would also be counter productive to debate.
You do not offend me Lemongrove, your posts always make for positive reading & I absolutely agree with you about bullying.

My main grip with Allygran1 is that she tells us how she will express her self as she sees fit,say what she likes , that she will not be bullied etc ( which she isn’t being) but in the next breath berates other posters for Not expressing their opinion according to how she thinks they should. It seems it’s not only men & woman who are from different planets .?
Gransnet is a wide church....room for all.
Yes agreed, however the most important human interactions are through body language, facial expression, tone of voice humour etc, when we communicate using only the written word it can be open to misinterpretation.
I think the written word can be a perfectly adequate means of accurate communication when it is just that, i.e. used accurately.
However some people are ambiguous in what they say, fail to understand what they read, or to put it crudely, have been known to get the wrong end of the stick and then beat one around the head with it.
This is not a thinly veiled accusation of any recent posters on this or other threads, merely an observation.
Any sort of disagreement these days seems to be labelled as "bullying" even when posters on both sides of the argument might be perceived by some to be over zealous in their comments.
Referring to posters in extremely dismissive terms might also be construed as rude. "Ganging up" to accuse one person in a heated debate of being a bully could be viewed as a tactical move, used to discredit that person and the viewpoint that that person espouses.
Although I voted remain, I understand why some people voted to leave but - given the nastiness and division that this issue has caused - I find myself, to some degree, out of sympathy with both sides of the argument.
At the end of the day, in a world where 1% of the population owns, I think, 85% of the wealth, I see the issue of staying or leaving the EU as a relatively cosmetic one in the grand scheme of things. One way or another, those that hold power now will continue to hold power, whether countries are in or out of the EU.
Having said that, the chaos that has resulted from holding this referendum and the continuing uncertainty will, I believe, only compound the UK's ever-increasing problems, which in the main are not, in my view, the fault of the EU but, more generally, of the dysfunctional way in which the world operates and, more specifically, of the way our country has been governed.
Bridgeit, my gripe with you is that you have a gripe with me. Do you really expect me to allow you to bully me into submission of your rules.
My main grip with Allygran1 is that she tells us how she will express her self as she sees fit,say what she likes , that she will not be bullied etc
You and others, can dish it out but you can't take it. I try very hard to be polite, but you really are the limit. Just because you have been on here for some time or someone name Bridgeit has, that does not give you the right to bully me. If it get's any worse than today I will report you for bullying and let GN look through the post. I think it is unacceptable any form of bullying and on line bullying is despicable. Here we are as adults condeming on line bullying by and to young people and it's happening on Grandsnet for goodness sake! And as with all bully you then try to intimidate associates to get them to distance themselves as you did to lemon grove, to isolate your prey and then blame the person you are bullying for your behaviour. Despicable!
Eyes, motes and beams?
I wonder who funds RT?
mcem varian
How old...FFS!
I didn’t really want to reply to you Allygran1
But the ridiculousness comes me to
It is absolutely fine with me if you wish to report me for bullying.
I have no need to state the obvious to anyone else.

Pollaidh, I wonder if this thread has answered your question.?
If not then I am sure it will have given you quite an eye opener of the behaviour of an ‘ older generation ‘ ?
The logic of leave eludes me too, especially for your generation Pollaidh. We can only hope that the affects can be overcome for you eventually
I wonder if our opinions on GN are being used to monitor
the mood of a proportion of the older generation.
I can see that it would be of some use to those in the Political Arena & so easy to do.
All personal gripes should be set aside when discussing the referendum/Brexit etc.
Eloethan I know what you are saying and have some sympathy with your penultimate paragraph, however I voted to leave the EU because I thought it would help the less well off in our society for the future and create a better
Life for all. I hate the way the UK has slid into the way of not training our own young people but allowing unlimited immigration to fill all posts simply because it’s cheaper and there is no way to stop it due to EU laws.
Of course we will always need immigration, but all countries should be able to have the amounts that suit them.
That is one aspect that many countries ( in the EU) are now struggling with and is creating a backlash and the rise of the far right.
We need to do much more here instead of helplessly accepting all that the EU imposes on us.If any governments mess up, they are accountable to us in a way that the EU never is.
If in the future you don’t see any posts from me you will know I have been struck off!?
The logic of leave eludes me too, especially for your generation Pollaidh
Has it been established that Pollaidh is younger than most posters on here?
I thought she was a regular poster.
