A couple in a critical condition, and Novichok used!

niggly, he did take control of hospitals, police, ambulance service, air rescue and embassy in Paris in just one evening ?

I read that the woman affected lived in a flat near the Italian restaurant which the Skripals visited. That seems to mean that the decontamination process may have been lacking. The restaurant is still closed and sealed off though, so I'm not sure how a nearby flat would be affected.
This is all very mysterious but the overwhelming feeling must be sympathy for those involved, especially the latest couple, who seem to have no connection with Russia, Porton Down or anything else, other than where they live.
I live near Salisbury and have visited many times, including when large parts of the centre was closed off and business were feeling the pinch then. There were noticeably fewer people about, though it was just beginning to recover. Such a pity, as I said, for all those affected.
Having said all that, and as someone who has always lived near the area, I was always aware that Porton Down was a mysterious place ... it used to be the Common Cold Research Centre when I was a teenager, where people could have a 'break' for free as long as they were willing to accept being infected with a common cold virus. Seemed odd to me and still does. From memory, I think participants had to sign a non-disclosure form ... I may be wrong. If anyone knows better, please put me right.

Of course it was Jalima. Just like the ludicrous suggestions that it was a plot by the Government or caused by Brexit. Sometimes I really feel like giving up........

Maggiemaybe Thu 05-Jul-18 15:34:04

State-run TV station Rossiya 1 has suggested the incident might have been staged by the British government out of spite over the "fabulous" World Cup hosted by Russia though, Alima, so perhaps you weren’t too wide of the mark after all.

Hearing about this couple. I turned to DH and said I bet it is Novichok. Putin's agents have set out to randomly poison another couple so that they can say that it just proves that they had nothing to do with the poisoning of the Skripals and that Porton Down was to blame.

I was right wasn't I?

merlotgran Thu 05-Jul-18 16:49:13

spite over the "fabulous" World Cup?

We haven't lost a game yet grin

jura2 Thu 05-Jul-18 17:23:21

Kitty, I knit the Swiss way, which is like the German method ... obviously that makes me less British for sure ...proof at last.

MawBroon Thu 05-Jul-18 17:27:10

I can knit the German way Jura2 what does that make me?

kittylester Thu 05-Jul-18 17:32:01

jura, I'm confused by your post.

MawBroon Thu 05-Jul-18 17:44:44

My apologies for going off at a tangent blush
I was distracted by Jura2’s strange logic.

Elrel Thu 05-Jul-18 18:48:54

Annie - Prince Philip did WHAT?!

Anniebach Thu 05-Jul-18 19:08:53

did the poisoning Elrel

jura2 Thu 05-Jul-18 19:34:54

kitty was just following your tongue and cheek post about French knitting ... and making light of recent other comments (not from you) recently...no worries

PECS Thu 05-Jul-18 22:36:01

Inference on news was that the couple may have found a container ... suggested too they were 'drinkers' who often used the park. Whoever they are hope that the NHS can fix them. confused

Beau Thu 05-Jul-18 23:41:47

kittylester - I think it was in the London Evening Standard, referred to in the DM online edition, where they also said the police had never confirmed whether they ever found the original container.

Eloethan Fri 06-Jul-18 00:20:49

I don't think we'll ever find out the truth about this poisoning or the Skripals.

nigglynellie Fri 06-Jul-18 06:45:31

annie, forgive me, but when did Prince Phillip poison someone? Am I misunderstanding you or have I missed something?!! I'm deeply curious!!

suzied Fri 06-Jul-18 07:03:05

Latest theory is that they found an “ item” linked to the original attack. They were known to have drink/ drug issues so who knows.

maryeliza54 Fri 06-Jul-18 07:12:17

ab why is the poisoning of two innocent people something to make fun of - sickening.

Anniebach Fri 06-Jul-18 08:38:57

Maryeliza, your compassion brings tears to my eyes.

maryeliza54 Fri 06-Jul-18 08:47:15

And sarcasm as well - well done.

M0nica Fri 06-Jul-18 09:38:38

nigglynellie I think AB is referring to Mohamed Al Fayed's belief that his son and princess Diana's deaths were killings planned by a conspiracy headed by Prince Philip. Hence AB's response at the top of this page.

I still think this latest incidence is another deliberate poisoning by the Russians, I think the story that they must have picked up something discarded by the original poisoners is a cover story.

nigglynellie Fri 06-Jul-18 09:51:40

Oh I see! Well, who knows, but I think it unlikely!

Jalima1108 Fri 06-Jul-18 09:56:51

M0nica I am not sure why two very ordinary (by the sounds of it) British people would be targeted by the Russians? Unless, of course, this chemical has been obtained in some way by terrorists and they are using it to cause fear amongst the British people?

I think that the Novichok used in the original attack was in a sealed container discarded by the original attacker - and discarded somewhere outside the area which was so thoroughly cleansed.

Anniebach Fri 06-Jul-18 09:59:06

Not only Al Fayed, many in the country, it was as ridiculous as suggesting this poisoning was by the government as a distraction.

niggly, just thought I would add to - the fantasy who did it list ?
