Government resignations since autumn:
1 November 2017 - Fallon
8 November 2017 - Patel
20 December 2017 - Green
29 April 2018 - Rudd
8 January 2018 - Greening
8 July 2018 - Davis
There have been six resignations in 249 days. That’s one every six weeks

Just woken up to the news that the incompetent David Davis has resigned. Just as Brexit was all going so well? The useless Grayling should be next - how come he is still in post? Not to mention the awful foreign secretary. Interesting to watch develpments as the day wears on. The bookies and removal men will be busy.

I thought this thread was about politics not football! The one thing they have in common though is running around and plenty of puff

Little englander is a description of English people who think England rules the waves and is superior to the other three countries of the U.K. your not.

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:02:33

I’m proud of our football team making it to the semi finals of the WORLD cup (Scotland, Wales or NI could have easily been in their place if they had made the grade this time round) . So that makes me a “little Englander” does it ?

Well I must remember that as an English person I should not be proud of my country . Overstepped the mark there didn’t I ?

Anniebach Tue 10-Jul-18 10:03:19

Two posters chose to bring football into this thread , Iam and granddad1943. Why when there is a football tbread

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:03:50

When did I say I think England “rules the waves” ? What a load of rubbish.

Anniebach Tue 10-Jul-18 10:05:26

Gilly pride in your home team does not make you a little englander, supporting a poster who mocked the country I have pride in does make you a little englander

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:06:12

IMHO It has been made political because what started as a bit of friendly banter / rivalry/ joke regarding England in the World Cup has turned out quite nasty.

Anniebach Tue 10-Jul-18 10:08:08

Rivalry? Wales, Scotland and N.I. Are not playing so how can there be rivalry?

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:10:21

When did anyone mock your country Annie ?

Good job we English have a sense of humour and are used to being mocked isn’t it ? With nasty terms like “ little Englander” being banded about .

How would you feel Annie if I said for example , that you have a chip on your shoulder for being Welsh? Not that I ever would because it’s offensive and nasty . So please don’t call me a little Englander .

Anniebach Tue 10-Jul-18 10:11:39

Read the thread gilly

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:11:39

There will be no rivalry as Wales, Scotland or NI didn’t make it . They will all be supporting ABE !

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:16:14

I’ve read enough thank you Annie .

nigglynellie Tue 10-Jul-18 10:24:14

annie ignore them, they're just not worth reacting to! FGS were supposed to be the United kingdom and cheap jibes at each other's countries would be pathetic in kindergarten. I thought the left disapproved of jingoism and it is only something vile Tory's indulge in?! Clearly I was wrong!! I would have thought the Sport thread would be more appropriate for football comments, or is it all an excuse to have yet another sneer at annie?

Anniebach Tue 10-Jul-18 10:32:20

You are right niggly, there are important matters to discuss not men kicking a ball around ?

PECS Tue 10-Jul-18 10:32:35

The reason a parliamentary vote was not on the cards was because the bulldogs knew most MPs would vote Remain and it would make theTories look stupid for setting up the referendum. ?

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:33:25

United Kingdom? Don’t make me laugh niggly . And who’s sneering at Annie ? Quite the other way around as far as I’m concerned using the offensive term “ little Englander “ to me for daring to show a tiny bit of patriotism for my country .

Annie pointed out there is no “British Isles” team in the World Cup . Which I find quite confusing confused as I was sure England were still in .

Jalima1108 Tue 10-Jul-18 10:35:48

I think Annie meant 'British' as opposed to 'English' ie as in GB representing the country in the Olympics.

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:35:48

Can you not see how the topic has collided though ? We are 4 countries who are all supposed to be part of the British Isles ( or not ) . I fail to see why we can’t get along but I suppose the football proves it .

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 10:36:26

Whatever .

Jalima1108 Tue 10-Jul-18 10:36:46

And - just to point out, getting back to the OP - Davis is the English spelling of the surname and Davies is the Welsh spelling.
wink

Ginny42 Tue 10-Jul-18 10:43:18

Oh! What happened to the debate about DD's resignation?

Anyway, I see in the news that Boris says it's him or Corbyn. What a duplicitous person he is. Will he really get the backing of so many Tories?

It seems that members of the opposition were called to Downing Street yesterday for a briefing asking Labour MPs to rescue the government. Pity she didn't seek a cross-party approach from the outset and we might have been in a far better position today.

Jalima1108 Tue 10-Jul-18 10:46:34

Pity she didn't seek a cross-party approach from the outset and we might have been in a far better position today.
She wouldn't listen when I advised her to do just that in the first place.

MawBroon Tue 10-Jul-18 11:23:38

Ye gods, if it comes to a choice between Boris or Jacob Rees Mogg and Corbin with Momentum I might become an economic migrant myself. Any room for me in Sweden?
Surely with those extremes the field is wide open for the likes of Umunna, Cooper , Creasy or even Davidson (once she has had her baby and become a Westminster MP)

varian Tue 10-Jul-18 11:26:05

Vince Cable?

nigglynellie Tue 10-Jul-18 11:28:22

Davidson? I wish!!! (sigh!
