Well, according to him, we have voted to "break up the EU"

Erm, no, the vote was just for leaving. Just goes to show how much of a grasp he has.

I despair, that such an ill informed person is in such a position

I feel sorry for the Queen, having to be polite to such a predatory, sexually assaulting, obnoxious oik.

Momilsom Sat 14-Jul-18 11:03:02

I think the Queen can cope. She entertained the King of Saudi another misogynist and a country with no rights for women.

Fflaurie Sat 14-Jul-18 11:08:09

I think who ever advises Theresa May on her wardrobe should be sacked. She often wears jackets which make her look tied up in the middle. She needs a sensible stylist suitable for a 60+ year old woman.

Jaycee5 Sat 14-Jul-18 11:09:17

He has imposed tariffs on China but excluded fashion so that Ivanka's new Chinese made products are excluded. It is hard to see why people cannot see how self serving this man is, but so many Americans still think that he is all about them.
I just hope the Democrats step up next time and are spending this time working on listening to people and will have a better candidate with a better campaign next time. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that he will win again.

Hildagard Sat 14-Jul-18 11:09:49

Love it ?

GabriellaG Sat 14-Jul-18 11:11:25

You are not alone.
I think he's refreshing insofar that most things he says, seem to be off the cuff, not the rehearsed non-political stuff spouted by our royals nor the indirect, bluffing, gobbledegook which most polititians spout. We almost never get straight answers from polititians as evinced on the various tv programmes. At least Trump tells it how he sees it.

eazybee Sat 14-Jul-18 11:14:21

Starbox, your post presented some interesting reflections on Trump. I was dismayed when he was elected; I dislike much of what he does and most of what he says, and this trip to Europe has served mainly to display his inadequacies. We are all well aware of his banalities and don't need yet more lists of his 'isms and ists.'

But you are right to say: 'he's got ideas, he's all out for his country. UK can't refuse to engage with a major world power because people take the accepted "we all hate Trump" stance.'

These puerile protests achieve nothing, simply reducing us to his level of rudeness, although the hang glider might make the Scottish police review their security provision.

Like you I hope some useful dialogue comes out of this visit for the USA to work with Britain. Trump is not the only American in discussions with the British this weekend.

Pebbles77 Sat 14-Jul-18 11:17:06

Juggernaut We have to remember
despite our problems in uk ... believe it or not we are actually the most civilised and London is the most cosmopolitan city in the world ... other countries are just not like us ... we contribute the most overseas aid ... It’s disgusting what happened to the Mexican families and hopefully it will not be repeated and lessons absolutely learned by Trump ... we have to remember we have welcomed a lot worse than trump and not demonstrated against them either such as Mugabe .... He’s not great but the demonstrations are over the top .... but we have had millions of soldiers who died in the war to allow such protests .... ... The UK are not innocent of atrocious actions against other countries ... India for one .... and also when they poor little immigrant lad was shown ... ( I am filling up jist thinking about it ) lying dead in the soldiers arms ... many people on fb couldn’t have cared less and that’s why I came off fb I was totally distraught to see his little arms and legs dangling .... and did this county cry much about that ...?? .... double standards

Juliet27 Sat 14-Jul-18 11:23:46

Sadly phoenix I think he'd probably enjoy a right good slap. Maybe a right hook would be better!!

merlotgran Sat 14-Jul-18 11:26:52

Donald Trump, out of his comfort zone, standing in front of the Queen will give her something to chortle about behind closed doors. She probably gave David Attenborough a ring urging him to watch a replay. grin

What did have me holding my breath was the footage of the Greenpeace paraglider floating by and NOT being blasted out of the sky. All those security men, itchy fingers on triggers and DON'T SHOOT, DON'T SHOOT blasting through their earpieces.

Imagine if that had happened in America shock grin

I just can't bear racism of any kind, and the idiot Trump is racist in the extreme.
I'm not a lover of the demonstrations there have been, as far as Trump's concerned, any publicity is good publicity, so he couldn't care less!
My post was really more about the number of Gransnetters who seemingly support a racist slug.

Irene16 Sat 14-Jul-18 11:38:17

White House seems confused too

Twitter gaffe during Donald Trump golf visit
The US President touched down in Scotland last night with the official Oval Office account saying he had "left the UK" after meeting the Queen in England.

paddyann Sat 14-Jul-18 11:50:45

thats normal Irene16 its a widely held notion that England IS the UK ....even in Westminster which should know better !

anniesgrannie Sat 14-Jul-18 11:52:11

eazybee and starbox. Well said you two, I could not believe people are so judgment on here.

Bugs0719 Sat 14-Jul-18 11:54:45

If you think you are embarrassed you can only imagine how embarrassed I and many other Americans are. Everyday he does or says something that makes me cringe. I was praying that the Queen might’ve given him a lesson or two on decorum, etc. as for Melanie..... what was even worse that what she might’ve had on for her visit in your country was the jacket she wore when visiting one of the centers where they are holding the immigrant children that said on the back of it “I don’t care”. My DH and I cannot figure out how anyone can support him in any way, shape or form. If it weren’t for the fact that we have 2 young granddaughters we would be moving out of this country.

Pebbles77 Sat 14-Jul-18 11:57:26

Juggernaut I hear you .?... from I can gather their values and ways are different to us ... the gun laws ... ugh ... they just cannot get their heads around why it’s creating the problem ... Piers Morgan had to leave the country after he told them off ... frustrating to say the least they just “don’t get it “ ....... their culture although we speak the same language of sorts is just not the same ... there are no “special needs “ road crossings as far as I know in many states according to my sons friend who is Blind ....
that’s normal it seems to them and nobody questions it ... over here people work special needs still battle
to get help with wheelchair access etc a lot more could be done ...just simple things when we hang up on phone we generally say ... bye .... but my American friend found that weird .. she said they just hang up .. conversation finishes ... done .... we have so many different values .... can’t imagine if BoJo got in as UK PM ... and meeting trump for talks .... what a disaster .... actually I am going off on a tangent here lol ...... we speak the same language but we don’t .... when the biggest Allie we have in the world comes to visit ... we have to accept it .... and I i said we have “ welcomed “ a lot worst and never protested ....

Pebbles77 Sat 14-Jul-18 12:03:21

Wikipedia ... some info on Mugabe whom we have welcomed in the past over here
.. no protests

Having dominated Zimbabwe's politics for nearly four decades, Mugabe has been a controversial and divisive figure. He has been praised as a revolutionary hero of the African liberation struggle who helped to free Zimbabwe from British colonialism, imperialism and white minority rule. Conversely, he has been accused of being a dictator responsible for economic mismanagement, widespread corruption, anti-white racism, human rights abuses and crimes against humanity.

starbox Sat 14-Jul-18 12:09:39

Ah, Pebbles, but he's a Black leader who's taken former Rhodesia from white 'oppression' (?) to a (seriously corrupt) independence and I foresee allegations of racism if one started a rally (or let up a derogatory blimp) against him. I doubt the PC lot would want to do something that they might be taken to task over.

maryhoffman37 Sat 14-Jul-18 12:12:03

I think the best-looking First Lady ever was Michelle Obama! And I was on the protests at Chequers and in London yesterday. I would have been at Blenheim too but had to be at a committee meeting in London on Thursday pm. In fact I was in London four days out of five last week - why did I move to Oxfordshire?

glammanana Sat 14-Jul-18 12:12:41

Juggernaut Sorry my mistake,apologies.

sarahellenwhitney Sat 14-Jul-18 12:21:49

Phoenix.
For pity's sake.Through out her 62 year long reign Her Majesty has been on the receiving end of what must have been hundreds of dignitaries from far and wide. If she hadn't survived the likes of Trump before then I am sure she would have given up and abdicated long before now.
Give her credit. This wonderful Lady, the likes of which we will never see again in our and possibly our childrens' lifetime knows what she is doing.

sarahellenwhitney Sat 14-Jul-18 12:28:15

maryhoffman 37.
Not SO important to you that you preferred your committee meeting.

icanhandthemback Sat 14-Jul-18 12:29:54

I can’t believe how many people are up in arms about what Melania and TM were wearing; there isn’t this amount of outcry when it is a man’s costume. I hate everything Trump stands for but I can’t help feeling that politicians who said what they meant and stood up for the UK instead of apologising for its existence would be a breath of fresh air.

oldgaijin Sat 14-Jul-18 12:32:58

...but don't you think that TM is a weird shape, anyway. None of her clothes seem to fit right. She should get a proper stylist.

Tweedle24 Sat 14-Jul-18 12:34:23

Just wish his advisers would make him do his homework. His grasp of protocol is non-existent. His knowledge of the country where he is a guest leaves a lot to be desired too. According to this morning’s tweet, he left the UK to visit Scotland! Maybe he knows something we don’t?
