Well, according to him, we have voted to "break up the EU"

Erm, no, the vote was just for leaving. Just goes to show how much of a grasp he has.

I despair, that such an ill informed person is in such a position

I feel sorry for the Queen, having to be polite to such a predatory, sexually assaulting, obnoxious oik.

I was glad when Trump got in as I felt he'd do stuff rather than just make PC noises. And he has. I HAVENT approved of his stance on hunting/ guns -totally oppose him. I have repeatedly rather despised his tweets and sudden big gestures (which sometimes have to be retracted.) But he's got ideas, he's all out for his country. UK can't refuse to engage with a major world power because people take the accepted "we all hate Trump" stance. Obviously he's not going to cut UK out because someone puts up an insulting blimp of him...but how does pissing him off actually achieve anything or help UK?? (beyond making those attending the protests able to preen as right-on leftie liberal luvvies who spout the accepted line?) I'm glad he's here, hope we can achieve useful dialogue with USA to help Britain. And I have NO interest in the women's dresses!

Maddyone, yes she chose him, brings to mind Mrs Merton

What first attracted you to the millionaire? ?

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 10:27:25

Well that’s s new one on me pebbles but thank you anyway . I really can’t see how her maj could be anyone’s “ hero” it’s not as though she has saved a group of boys from a cave or put a fire out is it ? wink

Me neither Lyndie .

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 10:29:25

Oh jeez you would’ve been sent to the tower if you had hugged her ( the old duck) sluttygran

As one who lives in the states your sentiments reflect what many of us here think. I cannot tell you how depressed many of us were when T won the electoral college vote but lost the popular vote by three million. Our system is outdated and needs to be changed. People here have stopped speaking to family and friends who still support him. It is a nightmare that I can’t wait to end. Over 2000 children still are not reunited with their families at our border. Melanie visited there twice and the last time wore a jacket that said on the back,” I don’t care. “” Do you?” Talk about controversy. And wore her five inch heels to a flood. So inappropriate.
He says one thing than does the opposite. He knew on Friday that 12 Russians were indicted for hacking into our voting system . He says nothing. He said that neo nazis were good people, he mocked a special needs person, puts people down calling them fat or old etc. I could go on and on about what is really happening here. I actually thought of moving to Canada.
What is funny is that his friend owns The Sun paper and he called it fake news. He was disrespectful to your PM and to the Queen.
I thank you for supporting us and hope our country can be whole again.

123coco Sat 14-Jul-18 10:33:35

STARBOX. Words fail me. How csn you defend this loathsome man. He is holding rallies where he encourages chants. He tells lie after lie ( yes they have been fact checked) and his whole agenda is chilling and reminiscent of the 1930”s in Europe. HE IS A VERY DANGEROUS MAN. And if you think caring fir his country means bringing about another war , then I don’t know what to say except you must be friends with that toad Farage! Really. Hes just a multiple bankrupee , serial lier and sociopath , racist and misogynistic monster!

sluttygran Sat 14-Jul-18 10:33:58

Several posters have said that they can’t understand the hatred towards Trump, then have proceeded to list the bad things he does which cause him to be so disliked.
Let’s face it, he is not a pleasant person, but worst of all he has no idea about the things he is meant to be working on. He drivels on about nothing much in particular - except how he’s the greatest - and is usually only semi-coherent.
If he has achieved anything at all, I suspect it’s by signing papers which other, more intelligent people have pushed under his nose
His Presidency is a complete travesty.

starbox Sat 14-Jul-18 10:36:01

Yes, 123coco, I am most definitely pro-Farage who would've been the best choice as PM -very intelligent, able clear-sighted man.

widgeon3 Sat 14-Jul-18 10:37:39

Absolutely Starbox
I didn't vote for Trump. I would have voted neither for Trump or Clinton. A great number of people in the States, however, found good reason to do so.
He is here representing his country and probably arrogant enough not to realise that he is being insulted BUT we should accord the chief representative of the USA the appropriate reception, as we have in the past done to other heads of state of whom we have strongly disapproved.

I think for China's head of state, the people protesting were kept back by the police. Who determines what sort of welcome is accorded here?

Griselda Sat 14-Jul-18 10:41:49

I won’t talk about politics and still less about the women’s clothes.
BUT
Trump was extremely rude in the way he walked in front of the Queen and the way he set the pace afterwards. He appears to have no manners at all. This is a shame because whenever I’ve visited the USA or met Americans in England I’ve noticed that their everyday manners are generally better than ours - especially to the elderly.

quasidodo Sat 14-Jul-18 10:42:40

At least Trump didn't try to hold the Queen's hand. Just cut in front of her and barged her out of the way.

railman Sat 14-Jul-18 10:45:27

Lyndie - I suspect you may be able to understand the 'vitriol' here against DT. We have all been fed a fairly capacious diet of his "Tweets", randomly interpreted by various political experts to support their own subjective opinions.
His lack of diplomacy is taken by some as refreshingly forthright - others simply see it as rude.
No, our own politicians and the media are highly skilled in the area of evasion and subversion when and where it suits their personal and/or party agenda.

Your observation that -Lots of companies here are American.- is true to some extent, but the likes of say Cisco Systems, a global telecoms giant, IBM, Dell, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc., etc. have space in the UK, but their EMEA headquarters are inevitably in other EU countries, whether it's Ireland, the Netherlands, or elsewhere.
Whether the 'hard Brexit' occurs or not, they will still operate outwith the UK for administration and headquarters purposes, and if it becomes costly, they, like Lloyds of London may consider relocating some of their operations elsewhere in Europe.

DT's support for Brexit has nothing to do with any "special relationship" with the UK, and everything to do with the disruptive geo-political strategy both he and Vladimir Putin are deploying.

starbox Sat 14-Jul-18 10:45:40

You've put it in a nutshell, widgeon3 !! Seems once it becomes the accepted line to diss someone, that's OK. Can you imagine the furour if we did all this to leader of a strict muslim nation (where misogyny etc are commonplace!!) You know what: the important thing is whether Trump achieves for his country. And if he's arrogant, disparages women, other races...well, better that than a politically correct charmer who doesnt really do anything.

GabriellaG Sat 14-Jul-18 10:46:31

Melania's cream suit skirt was waaay too tight across her bottom. You could clearly see the outline even when she stood straight, legs together. Dreadful tailoring and as fir her OH, he never fastens his jacket because it would pull the buttons. He fancies that leaving it loose gives tge illusion that his bum doesn't look big. Haha.
I noted that his trouser legs look HUGE compared to the size of his feet and, in one photo with Mrs May, his suit jacket is puckered all along the lapel and breast pocket as if the buckram (or whatever the stiffening) has not been tailored properly.
Whilst I'm at it, Mrs May's red dress was awful. She was tightless and the fit? was absolutely awful. Her upper arms showed a demarcation line where short sleeves end.
The black trousers she wore with the red jacket, were very baggy round her bottom, not the right material which holds it's shape. Altogether, she's a mess, clothes-wise and she slouches. An awkward, gawky, indecisive stork.

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 10:47:39

Well I finally found the actual footage and talk about exaggeration! He looked like he wasn’t quite sure where to be and the queen slipped behind him very briefly . From what some are saying I thought he must’ve pushed her out of the way, kicked her in the shin and left her crying. Jeez.

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 10:50:33

You have a vivid imagination gilly

Luckygirl Sat 14-Jul-18 10:51:08

It does seem a bit of a storm in a teacup - I have just watched the incident and the queen gestured for him to walk on (good dog!) and he did.

Margs Sat 14-Jul-18 10:51:36

Someone on the radio commented yesterday about how his wife, Melania (is that spelt right?), always but always looks anything from nervous to outright terrified.

Well, wouldn't any woman be persistently on edge if married to a man with an apparent Henry VIII mentality? He does what he likes, says what he likes, tramples over any opposition (or anyone who should try to voice an alternative opinion), is so very mercurial it's unbelievable, and poor Melania is his third wife (fourth?), so no wonder she seems to be tip-toeing on eggshells.

Well, at least she can look forward to a big pay-off when the divorce comes along.....

And at least Tantrum Trump can't have her beheaded.

GabriellaG Sat 14-Jul-18 10:54:24

MaggieMay60

You're totally wrong to say that Trump saying Saddiq Khan is a terrible Mayor for London, equates to him being racist.
It's not a racist remark.

Pebbles77 Sat 14-Jul-18 10:56:12

gillybob I agree ... The heroes are the people who save lives . Just like the rescuers and the poor gentleman who died in the process trying to help the Tai children bless him .... I had a lovely American lady who visited .. long story but we connected on internet as we had both been through terrible grief and I said come and visit ... it was a joy to see he react to Buckingham palace .. she was transfixed at the gate lol ... and she could not believe it when she saw how much Tea we actually do drink here ... “ wow it’s not a myth ! “ she said lol ... it was lovely to see her reaction to London in general to be fair and she was even fascinated with the telephone and post boxes that we have ( the old red ones ) ... and where I worked a few years ago a colleague went to Florida to get away from Prince Williams wedding and the Americans could not believe that she would want to be away for a Royal Wedding ....

Lyndie Sat 14-Jul-18 10:58:16

Don’t get me wrong railman. He has his own agenda but he is only scary if governments don’t make the right decisions for all the people. It’s almost like we are being subverted by a group making people look at DT instead of actually looking at what is happening here . Or is it just me?

Pebbles77 Sat 14-Jul-18 10:59:42

MaggieMay60 I agree !
He just has a clumsy way of saying some things .... I agree .. Sadiq has not done much for trying to at least prevent things and he didn’t exaclfy shout from the roof tops to condemn the terrorist attacks buy Isis .... there are soooo
Many lovely Muslim people about and they would give you the shirt off their backs ... but Sadiq has done nothing in my estimation for London ... I’m not saying he isn’t a nice person he is just feeble in his mayorship .... imho

Juggernaut Sat 14-Jul-18 11:00:58

It astounds me that there are some people on Gransnet who can't see what an absolute pig Trump is.
If the only thing he'd done wrong during his Presidency was decide that babies and children should be separated from their parents at the border, then kept in 'cages', that surely would be enough reason to dislike him.
Therefore I can only assume that some Gransnetters don't care about these poor little mites, presumably because they have the wrong colour skin! Whoever you are, you should damn well be ashamed of yourselves angry

GabriellaG Sat 14-Jul-18 11:01:37

Re comments about Khan, crime and police numbers. It's numbers and TEETH. Police are far too fond of citing H&S when it comes to giving chase and sentencing guidelines are far far too lenient.

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 11:01:45

Obviously not quite as vivid as many on Gransnet Annie . I really thought he must’ve done something truly horrible to her maj the way people were going on .

Totally agree Lucky talk about a storm in a very posh china teacup !
