An interesting piece on Radio 4 this morning.

Varian, I too am a Diorissimo fan. A friend sprayed me with some her mother had been given when we were both 16 and off to a Sixth form dance and it has been my favourite perfume ever since. I used to use alternative lily-of-the- valley scented perfumes for many years as I could not afford the real thing, but they never cut the mustard.

Now I buy it on Brittany Ferries when we go to France. Not cheap, but much cheaper, even than in France.

Brexit has morphed into Fashion and Perfume confused

varian Mon 30-Jul-18 20:12:15

Well when we think about the dire consequences of brexit, we need to start thinking about our priorities when it comes to stockpiling.

Jalima1108 Mon 30-Jul-18 20:13:50

Perfume and designer clothes?

Jalima1108 Mon 30-Jul-18 20:14:19

what about my L'Occitane hand cream?

M0nica Mon 30-Jul-18 20:26:32

Brexit, but better than morphing into a left/extreme left political tennis.

With a the French winning the World Cup and a Welshman having won the Tour de France. we could morph to a discussion about the Entente Cordiale

Nobody needs "designer" clothes but a good perfume can work wonders

lemongrove Mon 30-Jul-18 20:27:35

Jalima grin
Yes, it’s morphed into designer gear and parfum, soon it will be lattes, Notting Hill house prices and Tuscany villa holidays.

crystaltipps Tue 31-Jul-18 07:52:10

Be careful, we might soon get a huge Wikipedia cut n paste on the history of Chanel/ Dior.

MamaCaz Tue 31-Jul-18 08:27:30

Crystaltipps & Mamacaz
Put the claws away, it's not a nice look.

MamaCaz Tue 31-Jul-18 09:40:29

Claws? I was amused, Petra, and still am grin

MawBroon Tue 31-Jul-18 09:43:41

An american friend called him Jeevonshi - a bit pretentious ?
blushblush
How would you pronounce it Fennel?

Jalima1108 Tue 31-Jul-18 09:53:49

I was wondering that too MawBroon confused

But I didn't ask for fear of seeming stupid

crystaltipps Tue 31-Jul-18 10:08:41

Claws? It was a joke? no offence intended just a comment on the way this thread is evolving ???

Fennel Tue 31-Jul-18 12:30:40

I call him Gi ven chy, hard G.
But I suppose Jeevonshi is the proper french pronunciation.

Jalima1108 Tue 31-Jul-18 12:35:40

Oh, I've always pronounced it with a soft 'G'
Not that I need to say it very often!

MawBroon Tue 31-Jul-18 12:46:52

Well yes Fennel! And you just back from living in France confused
“Ge” and “gi” are pronounced “zh”, while” ga, go “ and “gu” are pronounced with a hard g , “ch” is “sh” and “y” is “ee “
What else?

MawBroon Tue 31-Jul-18 12:51:27

Just had a thought, maybe I am confusing you with somebody else, apologies if so!

Allygran1 Tue 31-Jul-18 13:28:33

Or even a cut and paste on the pitfall's of capitalism. Your pensions clearly go further than mine....the nicest scent for me is Pears soap.

MaizieD Tue 31-Jul-18 19:53:47

^“Ge” and “gi” are pronounced “zh”, while” ga, go “ and “gu” are pronounced with a hard g , “ch” is “sh” and “y” is “ee “
What else?^

The bit I'd query, MawBroon is the 'ee' sound. Trying desperately to remember if the letter 'i' is pronounced as 'i' (pin) or 'ee' in French. hmm

Jalima1108 Tue 31-Jul-18 20:02:02

The French 'i' is pronounced as ee but short, iyswim?

whereas we may say for 'ee' in English - eey
the French 'i' is a quicker 'ee'

I think - where's MawBroon?

MaizieD Tue 31-Jul-18 20:04:55

As in what French word, Jalima?

(That's what I couldn't dredge up from the depths of my brain, a French word with 'i' in it!)

Jalima1108 Tue 31-Jul-18 20:08:12

Um, were we talking about Givenchy?

Not a word which trips off my tongue daily.

Fennel Tue 31-Jul-18 20:53:20

Whatever his name, I love this coat:

I tried to find a pattern for it, but no success.
