both Margaret Hodge and Ian Austin now face disciplinary action , Margaret for telling Corbyn he was anti semetic and Ian for telling a close friend of Corbyn the party has become a sewer . Freedom of speech not allowed in the party.

X posts Annie

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 19:45:58

We did lemon ?

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 20:14:34

Disciplinary action against Margaret Hodge has been dropped.

Jalima1108 Mon 06-Aug-18 20:24:14

I should think so too!

Jalima1108 Mon 06-Aug-18 20:25:25

What a chaotic lot they are - and some think that they could handle Brexit better?
What a joke!

I do hope Keir Starmer (or someone of equal stature and sense) is in the wings, biding his time.

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 20:32:31

Labour has claimed she expressed regret at how she expressed herself, Margaret has hit back with - there was no regret on either side. Seems there was a danger of many MP’s leaving if the action had gone ahead, not surprised, remember what happened after her vote of no confidence. She is very much respected and there is much affection for her too.

I heard she was ready to sue

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 20:36:22

There is someone in the wings but no one suitable in the shadow cabinet, unless Starmer stops behaving like a nodding dog, suppose it could be an act and he is waiting

Playing the long game perhaps …..

Fennel Mon 06-Aug-18 20:44:32

My reaction is just sad.
And to add to that, I contacted the LP by phone 2 weeks ago about renewing my subscription. They sent me some info by post, saying they enclose an application form. But no form!
So the national helpline is disorganised too.
They did send a prepaid envelope though.

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 20:47:52

Your sad the charges have been dropped Fennel ?

Iam64 Mon 06-Aug-18 20:50:18

The news just reported comments Boris made in an article in today's Telegraph, which seemed to me to fit into the anti islam accusations being levelled against the Conservative party. The consensus seems to be its part of his cunning plan to become tory leader.
I found myself wondering whether a centrist party could emerge from the current mess that is our two main Political parties.
There seems to be growing concern from all quarters about the impact of austerity on public service. The NHS is under increasing pressure, we have senior Police Officers criticising the cuts and saying they can't do their job of keeping the public safe as a result of losing so many officers, education, adult and children services all reporting inability to fulfil their roles.
A centrist party could be popular and even win an election - maybe

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 20:51:03

Could be Jalima , KCB and QC

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 20:53:01

I may be wrong but I can’t see labour and Tory MP’s meeting in the middle Iam

Fennel Mon 06-Aug-18 20:54:33

"Your sad the charges have been dropped Fennel ?"
I didn't mean that at all Annie.
I'm sad that our party seems to have descended into chaos and infighting to this extent.

Iam64 Mon 06-Aug-18 21:02:49

Neither can I in reality Annie - but if the two main parties continue to fall out amongst themselves, to move ever further to their own extremes is it possible we either have more moderate independents or even a new party. Can't see it in my lifetime.

Fennel Mon 06-Aug-18 21:05:23

Lam - I was talking to husband about this today, and the idea came to me that perhaps the time has come for the UK to move away from the 2 to 3 major party system. 4 if you include youkip. Then there are the Scottish parties and NI.
Both main parties have apparently irreparable splits.
If it happens it could lead to a change in the electoral system to proportional representation. And would probably result in more coalitions.
Going back to our LP, there's no way Corbyn could have united the current party.

Anniebach Mon 06-Aug-18 21:32:13

So sorry Fennel, I too am sad it has come to this , I fear for it not surviving , a once proud party reduced to this mess

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 08:48:28

I have read many times the blurb on the NEC candidates , I don’t think I will vote this time , it’s been reported Momentum has nine candidates , how risky is that?

Iam64 Tue 07-Aug-18 09:49:54

Why not use your vote Annie? I know people who used their vote to avoid the Monentum candidates

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 09:56:44

Iam, because I am now probably paranoid,

Allygran1 Tue 07-Aug-18 22:46:53

Follow your instinct Anniebach. Not the first time you have seen this, although not with a leader who support's the far left before.

My feeling is that the Labour Party will come through this. All Political party's are being given a shake up right now. Another poster mentioned centrist parties. I don't know what you think, but my view is, that time has past for now, it was never successful, since we need a right and left in politics, that allows the Opposition party to function. When every one was in the Centre, so many people on the right and left where unrepresented as we saw, in both the centrist Conservative times and in the New Labour era as well. At least that is my view, from the outside. You might have a more insightful view Annie.

Allygran1 Tue 07-Aug-18 22:55:05

So true lemongrove. Whichever party is in Government the Country deserves a strong Opposition. Essential to true representation.

Anniebach Wed 08-Aug-18 11:39:18

I will vote, taking great care, choosing then checking .

A strong opposition is vital, but not far left or far right, they bring hatred and envy. I canvassed through the Thatcher years and Labours wilderness years, and before and after.

There will not be a breakaway party, I could be so wrong. the left of centre labour MP’s have not forgotten what happened the last time some labour MP’s broke away because of the far left taking over and forming a new Party,it brought a Tory win. They know Corbyn will bring disaster to the party but will stay and fight against the far left sgain. Margaret Hodge has said this, ‘ I will stay a member and fight within my party.

The big threat is deselection by momentum members. The centre left has learned from the wilderness years but so has the far left. 1983 they were openly Trotsky, now they are trying to hide their true colours.

Devorgilla Wed 08-Aug-18 15:44:36

Oh please do vote AB. Don't disenfranchise yourself. If it helps you decide look up #JC9. No need to explain why - it will be self explanatory.
As for Starmer being in Corbyn's shadow cabinet, we need someone speaking sense on Brexit as far as he is allowed. I suspect that is why he went in in first place.
I said in 2010 that we elected boys to do an adult's job and it is painfully obvious that many of them, still there, cannot get past the mischief making of the 'your mum' playground variety or the student politics of their day. Will a real adult please stand up and take control?

Anniebach Wed 08-Aug-18 15:56:06

Devor, I will vote, thank you. A real adult can't take control , Momentum and Len McClusky stand between Corbyn and the MP’s on the back benches , I don’t think Corbyn has control now, his silence is loud.
